Most people in Lagos need to go back to their villages for farming. Being you Yorùbá, Hausa or Igbo. They are suffering and creating problems.

Lagos is very dirty. In parts of the so called prestigious Lekki phase 1, you can see clothes hung out to dry on the fences of some shops as you drive out. Some roads have mama put sellers selling to their very loud clients. These plus the floods of Lekki make some parts look like a shantytown. Serious depreciation!! They come with their dirty habits and uncouth manners. Refusing to let their environment influence them positively. Let’s not forget the begging!!! Tell them to exert themselves a little to get the money and they’ll rain curses. They all want to be big boys and big girls overnight. But of course, it is not their fault. It must be the fault of the usual culprit: the government! They’ll come and teach them how to keep their environment clean, how to talk, ethics....

But it's not compulsory to live in Lagos sha

Tell that to the large number of citizens trooping in daily from every region in the nation... This is what happens when you center all major business activities and international business interests in one state... Lagos has long ceased to be the capital of Nigeria, but the memo obviously failed to trickle down all these decades. It never occurred to your leaders to decentralize business activities by opening up seaports in other parts of the country, even move diplomatic buildings, or mandate industries to relocate to other states...

Shall we talk about the failure of most states to create jobs, and enable establishment of businesses to accommodate the teeming work force of the nation...

This is truly a shithole...

NO. It is the sign of useless Nigerians giving birth to multiple children like pigs. Is it the govt that would help them think too on how to use their brain to give birth to only a number they can realistically cater for?

Them no deh tell man. We go deh here, this country go explode.

How do you define better life, is it better life for someone to leave his or her own room in the village and come to lagos only to reside under the brdige?
It is a better life for someone to leave his acre of land in the village where he could plant corn and cassava to earn a living to come to lagos and live like animals?
I think a better life thing is very subjective to conditions and situation . . . . .

you are taking a simplistic view to this matter......

the States should create an enabling environment for business to thrive and safety to reign.

Warri would have been the next big thing
but their dumb natives created that atmosphere of hostility and people fled

Kano and Kaduna as well should have been good megalopolis but then religion don block their sense and the state is at constant risk of violence, so many have fled there too

Onitsha should have been the hub back then

but the unsafety and all drove many big men away to Lagos (I still remember)
tho onitsha is improving now.

If Lagos goes down that road, most people there will as well flee elsewhere

There is no sentiment in this thing

If there is no incentive to stay, people won t stay.

Rivers state is going down that same road too
Turning their state to a river of blood have made many sensible people flee to Lagos and Abuja.

To fix things
we need to go back to the basics

Sometimes, you don;t have to depend on the government for job creation. Why can't the people take up farming instead of trooping to Lagos for a life they have no idea how it will end, or before leaving the village for Lagos, what have they done or skills acquired that will help them to survive in the city, they will carry their bags and just move to the city. Most in the village needs to take up farming and even those in Lagos will depend on them
few years ago, most of the students in Lagos were sponsored in school by the farming business of their fathers and mothers, so now we are all educated and instead of adding education to farming, we chose to dump farming and blame the government

you are missing the point

the govt created the disincentive to farm

It's ALL THEIR FAULT

And this began decades ago
when unproductive people in cities were sharing oil money while those in rural areas were tilling the ground getting nothing much

The rural guys wanted in on free money too and they left

That was one of the many destructive policies taken by the govt in decades past

everyone can't be farmers. Farming is level 1 civilization, especially the subsistence kind you are advocating for.

What we need is industrialization in most parts of the country. We need to be able to produce basic things (besides food) and generate adequate power so we can take part in the current tech revolution.

My good sir, I commend your exceptional take... I can't but agree with most of your input, but it still comes back to leadership... Why do you have governors, senators, etc?... can you compare the returns from the crafts you mentioned these days to back in the day?.. Shall we talk about cost of doing business even one as common place as agriculture?...

Some states are starting to make such moves to empower their youths, and facilitate entrepreneurship... But, majority are paying lip service.

There is so much unharnessed material and human resources in most states, but harnessing requires inputs which individuals can't provide alone... How about the issue of seaports?.. Imagine if we had functioning seaports in 4 other parts of the South, do you know how fast Lagos would be decongested in months?...

Honestly, our leaders have not done close to enough to mitigate the economic exodus of their people to Lagos... I doubt they are even interested.
