meshpips: I think those who said 5bp rate cut are doing percentage increase on the pair which gave 4.9% increase. A 5bp rate cut will even strengthen the USD against other currencies. I see a 25bp which market will also not welcome. The reason being that the data for US economy isn't that bad. The market consensus is 50bp rate cut. This seems too high. Fed can change the band (2.25 to 2.5) they maintain. It isn't cast on stone. If there is deterioration of indices as could be seen by fed, they will go lower. 1 Like |

meshpips: You should not look at it just from the angle of rate cut. There are other factors that could cause GBP to appreciate against the USD. If Boris Johnson changes tune and aligns with the EU, there will be a swift strengthening of the GBP against other currencies. 2 Likes |

meshpips: Remember that market has been pricing in a rate cut since the talks with the Chinese fell apart. You can see the effect on Gold, some EM Markets. I believe that a 25bp cut will make market unhappy at first. Later market will interprete it that another could come before the year ends depending on how US-China talk progress. 2 Likes |

From a result driven perspective(H1 print for the most part) The great; CAVERTON, FCMB, LAFARGE WAPCO and AIICO. The good; MTN, FLOURMILLS(Q1), WEMA, CADBURY, CAP, NESTLE and DANGOTE CEMENT. The fair(the not-so-good): JULIUS BERGER, GSK, ETI and AFPRUD. The bad; AIRTEL, UNILEVER, FIDSON, OKOMU, PRESCO(Q1) and UCAP The UGLY; OANDO, TOTAL and MOBIL We really Love all the GREAT guyz... and like the 1st 5 from amongst the GOOD ones. I will not be surprise to see all 4 GREAT coys reprise higher to bridge the present very juicy gap(MoS) between current VALUATION and price. ...given the present standing of their financial print, it seems the probability of occurrence is nearer to 1 and farther from zero. Surely, time shall put things in their right perspective. We hate them BAD guys !! As for the UGLY folks, we would prefer to avoid them like a plaque. ...well, at least for now. To those who are still associating or speculating with the 1st ugly guy after several cautionary input, remember; "The difference between INVESTING and SPECULATING is like 'playing a ring/live action game' and 'gambling in the land of ghosts' With the former, there is a probability for you to control your emotion. ...but with the latter, there is a possibility for your emotion to control you !! The problem however is that the latter process can oftentimes be catastrophic !!" ~Sinclair NOTE: Preference of selection from the basket of the GOOD guyz is from left to right in that order. CAVEAT: NOT to be interpreted or referenced as any sought of recommendation. Due diligence should still remain ur 1st priority. My advice: Pls follow ur instinct. We look forward to more fine financials this week !! It is well. 3 Likes |

onegentleguy: Where is Transcorp ? Another clear case of “house wife” winning over “sidechic” no matter their bedmatics.. See as you label Oando (ur sidechic) ugly but said nothing about your wife (Transcorp) that has underperformed too.. Ok oo.. sidechics take note 1 Like |

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON LAFARGE WAPCO Looking through the current financials of WAPCO, it seems that the company is now on a good path to resurgence !! But then, someone might say; U have always criticized the coy in the past, so what has changed? Well, the result has changed, I would simply answer !! Good a thing, they drew their inference using the phrase; 'in the past'. Like I always tell folks; "I know of a man who was 'drowned in the vicissitudes of the stock market'. ...his pathways was built around the PAST than the future. ...until the PRESENT left him behind !!" ~Sinclair With WAPCO, it will be better to adopt a present and forward looking approach than relying on the past at this time. Why, u may ask; 3 factors are @ play here(though now in the opposite direction) 1) LAFARGE' current FX denominated loans are HEDGED. The company learnt a bitter lesson after it had a combined FX related loss of near N37B between 2016 to 2017. ...The aftermath of which became extremely difficult for them to come off from. What it has now done is to seek fx cover/protection for its dollar related loans from the CBN. ...which was done via a non-deliverable forward contract format. The interpretation of this is that LAFARGE is well covered should the CBN decide to devalue the Naira later this year or anytime for that matter. 2) The company is no longer working for the banks as was the case prior to this time. Cost line accruals from their high debt burden has been eased out by near 90% following the many delaveraging efforts from back to back rights, the divestment of their South African arm(which was loss-making for the most part) and some internal structural changes. 3) Efforts @ restructuring and innovative drives aimed @ romping up revenue(from more sales) and boosting earnings. Any Jack will agree that these 3 factors(working against the company at the time) was mainly the drag it suffered. ...particularly in the last 8 quaters. But with these factors now playing in favour of it, the company is now in a great position to MANAGE and OPTIMIZE COST and boost earnings going forward. Current financial print(H1 2019) also lends much credence to this. The sooner we learn to align as soon as we can see through the future, the BETTER !! From where I am standing, It does appear that it is now well with Mr WAPCO !! Again, NOT a recommendation. |

onegentleguy: In the past we used the same method to spot the growth and value driven potential in coys like FIDSON, INTERBREW, BETA GLASS and CUSTODIAN to mention just a few. I still recall how the 1st(FIDSON) rose from less N1 to above N6 at some point... and how the 2nd(INTERBREW) rose from near N5 to above N60. ...given over 1,100% ROI. Now i've talked about one coy with such value driven potential. The coy is the 1st of the GREAT coys I mentioned ealier. ...it's been churning out exceptional financials with a great measure of consistency accross its key revenue and earnings line in the last 2 calender yrs. ...it's undoubtedly a coy with an immensely great potential. Someday, CAVERTON will make some folks very rich !! Enough said. It is well !! |

onegentleguy:As far as I'm concerned you didn't chase her away. She left of her own volition. She took it too far. You've not said anything 'too bad' to warrant such action. What does she want someone like me (whom many people have/had been against here 'for no just cause') to do? When someone want people to understand him/her but he/she doesnt want to understand and tolerate others, I see this as being unfair. Sometimes people vent anger wrongly, guess this is the case. @OGG, you did the right thing by apologizing. @Yayi you're stronger than what you just did. If you want to leave, at least it shouldn't be for this trivial thing. Come back. Chai! Who I go dey find her trouble now? |
