Sony owns the distribution rights, while Disney owns the property rights, thus technically, Sony only claim to the film, and the proceeds by proxy, lies in the distribution contract.

In other words, Spider-Man: Far From Home is Disney's, not Sony's.

Thanks bro. I Knew that already, I just didn't want to dive into the specifics with him cos he seem to have made up his mind pretty much about the matter. That's why I said most people believe Spiderman is Marvel's.

Yeah, Sony only gets the movie proceeds, while property, creative and development rights resides with Disney. More or less a LEASE.

But there was a time I read somewhere that after the next Spiderman movie the property rights is reverting back to Sony since their deal was 3 Spiderman solos. They kinda reached that deal when Sony fvvked up with Amazing Spiderman. That was when there was huge controversy on who owns Spiderman or not, can't remember if it's this thread or another site. Disney presently develops or write the story for Spidey films, have some level of say in casting and so on, free to do team ups but no cash proceeds from the Solo Spidey films.

The area where Disney don't have jurisdiction are Spidey related or villain properties, The likes of venom and Morbius. That's cos Sony refuse to share or sell any rights to that, probably in hopes of Cashing in on those without Disney's poke-nosing, the Spiderman-villain-Universe. Seems it was partly successful with venom being surprisingly financially successful, triggering a venom 2 and Morbius. Other Spidey related contents are incoming, proven to be financially viable already with venom's success.

This year alone, Disney put 4 movies in the billion dollar club, with 3 more on the peripheral, and 3 more yet to premiere... I don't think Hobbs and Shaw will unsettle anything, to be completely frank. Disney owns the year... and the foreseeable future. That much is apparent.

Painfully true bro, painfully darn true!!! cry angry sad

We WB or DC fans getting it rough, this ain't happy times for us. Last year was good for WB, heck even some analyst might arguably say WB performed better than Disney since mouse house relied on Supes. WB had good outing without over reliance on Supes to bring in big bucks.

Aquaman being the only Supes for WB with other financial successes around it. Aquaman just ensured WB was in the billion dollar club last year.
Aquaman seemed more or less a icing on the cake for WB and proof that DC was profitable and valuable to audiences. With flicks such as A Star is Born, Crazy rich Asians, Game night, the Meg, Annabelle creation, the Nun, ma ma Mia, skyscraper, and controversial Fantastic beasts 2 (still a financial success albeit underperformed).

Wow!

This is a beauty but nothing comes close to Black Hawk down for me.

It even gets weird to learn it was real life story.
thats why i say there is fine line between real events and fiction.

Has anyone finished "the boys" and "orange is the new black" series.

The Boys ??
Lol. Tey tey, since on Monday. The series make sense die!!
Really mature and realistic portrayal of how real life superhero figures should be. Its more or less a dystopian superhero society show.

I give it an 8/10

Crying is the wrong emotion to feel in a situation like that. It goes to show you they got it wrong. Rage is the right emotion. Watch "When They See Us" to get the gist.

That's right. Abeg is that When they see us' good and Orange is the New Black. Kindly gimme plot and maybe ratings and season number. I've been seeing that Orange some time now but I don't know if it's my thing.

Nope, property rights Sony bought was the entire filming rights. You cannot make a spiderman movie without Sony's authorization. No company would be stupid to sell character rights.

Let's put spiderman rights this way,

Sony owns Filming rights

Marvel owns Character rights and merchandizing rights

Disney owns Marvel but without Sony's filming rights.

And I read, "While Marvel studio doesn't get any box office from Spider-Man and its' Sequel meaning marvel isn't profiting from Far From Home.

Well, I agree with you here. That's more like it.

Lol, u Try. But remember I only downloaded mine on Sunday morning and I was waiting for you trigger fingers who would download it ASAP to give me reviews first. I explicitly asked Koice how it was before downloading it. He was the one who spurred me on to download mine.
Cos I no one waste MB for nothing and am wary of new TV shows not especially with what Iron fist , emerald City, Dominion, the event, into the Badlands did to me. All those yeye cancellation that's y I wait these days until I see at least 3 seasons before I commit before I get too invested in a show and one buffoon decides to shit it for me. tongue tongue cheesy grin

Lol. That show na waste of MB I swear. Your own even good sef.
The painful thing about it was that I downloaded the full season but didn't complete watching it. I think I was 4/5 episodes in already and my smartphone got stolen. MB wasted et all.

The annoying thing was that I had amassed a massive library of movies and series about 36Gb or so without watching 90% of it and my phone was nabbed. Hehehe, I no fit laugh or cry!! I just consistently downloaded content without watching them, I seldomly watch few of time when I felt like watching a movie or show.

While I was watching Badlands my heart wasn't into the series unlike before, it was a total let down, so i didn't fast track watching it, instead Lucifer took it's place.
After getting a new smartphone a month ago I wasn't inclined to re-download it instead I retrieved Lucifer and watch asap.
Badlands is looking more or less an abandoned show to me like Empire, Iron Fist, Flash, Arrow, Strike Back. Never completed them / struggling to.

When They See Us is probably the hardest thing I have watched this year. It's an emotional rollercoaster, and will make you hate white people.

Since I discovered Wentworth (an Aussie more gritty women prison tv show), I haven't had much time for OiTNB.

Yes, you are right. Disney owns spiderman merchandise and even the entire marvel comics industry but the filming rights to spiderman was already sold to Sony before Disney could acquire Marvel.

Nam Angels - a war movie with mercenaries flipping around on bikes in Vietnam.

I dont think Rambo (Part 2) was also inspired by history, the guy laid a whole barracks to waste.

But I agree with you most war movies are based on history and some of the untold stories, 12 Strong comes to mind.

i read online that Brat Pit whooped Bruce Lee's ass in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, if thats the case i think Tarantino has gone too far with his craziness and has crossed the line.

Just like Captain Marvel, this is also in my black list.

It was Disney summer but it won't be Disney year. Granted they may have the top 3 if not 5 but 9/10 or 10/10 is just future impossible tense.

The last jumanji made almost a billion, and it went head to head against TLJ which came after the renowned and highest domestic grosser SW: TFAs, save A star wars story of late May. This year SW is marred with controversies and the division TLJ created but yes we have seen movies with tons of controversies hits high figures this year(CM and Aladdin). Maleficent 2 is not a contender for top 10 like frozen 2 and SW but that is it for Disney this year.

WB's IT: Chapter 2 is tracking to open up as high as $136 - 150m. Making it the highest opening weekend for an R-rated flick currently held by Deadpool, IT has the highest opening weekend for a horror genre at $123.4m. Granted it is almost impossible for an R-rated horror movie to hit a billion but let's see what might/might not happen.

Mind you Spider-Man Far From Home is a Sony movie and the fifth highest grosser for this year behind Endgame, CM, (Toy Story 4 and the L.K for future gross)

To be honest, this year is Disney's year. You can't take it from them

1. Captain marvel. -- $1bn+
2. Endgame $2.78bn+
3. Aladdin -- $1bn+
4. Lion king -- $1bn+ currently
5. Toy story -- $920m almost a billion
6. Star wars. -- potential $1bn+

No movie studio can beat this feat this year, so it's Disney's year.

In fact,it is very impressive.

I even forgot to mention frozen 2, another potential $1bn+ movie.

Disney is on top of the game this year and that's because they focus on family friendly movies. This brings money for them.

Other studios do horror or R rated movies. Disney hardly do such.

Yea, true that. Have u seen 13 hours: secret soldiers of Benghazi. The movie was talking about the US consulate attack in the Libyan city shortly after Ghadaffi was killed, which eventually led to the death of the US ambassador, was it Chris Stevens or so? . Man, it was annoying when some people supposed to render help was stalling. It was a true life event. It seemed as if the whole country Libya was in cohorts with the terrorists.
