Aturo Vidal and Gary Medel were always within 5 yards of Messi. He could not breathe and barely had seconds on the ball. They were unto him like a flash and anytime sanchez pressed from the front, the rest of the team pressed up in sync and this they did consistently throughout the tournament to great effect. Well like you pointed out, we really only have few players with that mobility and intensity to press but whats most important is that the press is in sync and co-ordinated. Once one player fails to move up the pitch, then the press is useless because that one player will leave an open player in the opponents rank to receive the ball.

I do not wish to conclude. Laca was our best player last season. His problem is his speed on the ball, and the fact that he enjoys playing with back to goal; unlike Auba who works the space and depends on speed. Most people prefer the speedsters, but it has always been the slow ones that end up with better effectiveness and even stats.

I feel the same way because I don't trust Hulkogan and Tierney is still out. I don't mind him leaving because he has been a faithful servant to this team and at 33, his legs can no longer carry too many games before he goes down, but the timing is bad for us. I don't even mind R. Sociedad waiting until January that way we have Tierney and Hulkogan.
