raker300: Nigeria never practiced communism, rather we practised a mild form of social democracy which failed spectaculary anyways. remember NITEL, MTEL, Ajaokuta Steel, Delta Steel, all the government owned Silos have longed collapsed. our best chance is capitalism, with government controlling health and Education sectors as is done in Scandinavian countries. |

MASTERCHIEF0847:Singapore is like 75% Chinese and can’t be termed multicultural like Nigeria. Singapore used to be a part of Malaysia. When they were the same country they used to have tribal/race riots. It wasn’t until they went their separate ways they started succeeding. Tribal differences are important & can impede a country’s success. |

selemempe: I see where you're coming from, your opinion is bigoted. Southern leaders are as culpable as their northern counterparts. Obasanjo invested $16 billion in power sector with nothing to show for it, Goodluck superintended over the massive looting of the country's wealth so the South or other tribes don't have any moral authority to point accusing fingers. What you're doing is ethnic bigotry. 1 Like |

Even if we earmarked $5trillion for poverty alleviation, it won't change anything, they will embezzle the funds right from the FG to the LG even to the wards. You know the way fire does butter, that is how they would deal with the funds. Our problem is simply CORRUPTION, don't forget China executes embezzlers, Nigeria celebrates them. 1 Like |

MASTERCHIEF0847:yes the south has moral rights. Nigeria didn't start in 1999. The south apart from 3 years obj spent and 6months aguiyi spent were not part of the 34 years of northern military rule that gave the country it's present systems. And even at that, obj can beat his chest and say he gave Nigeria a working banking and telecommunications industry. GEJ can beat his chest and say he built schools and universities in all states and that he made the country the largest economy in Africa...what are the distinct achievements of the hausas in power from 1960 till date. Even nysc was done by a middle Beltan. Nta, nnpc, Nigerian airways, some of our best institutions were built by southerners and middle Beltan in the short periods they spent in power You talking about looting...who loot pass ibb, abacha and abdulsalami 2 Likes |

ways to develop Nigeria 1. though harsh and extreme, every couple is only entitled to one child per family. this will slow our population growth 2. implement the death penalty for embezzlement of public funds above $1m and life imprisonment or 30yrs imprisonment for below $1m and forfeiture of properties acquired legally and illegally. Albeiting/aiding should be viewed as partaking in corruption especially in contract awards 3. Funds allocated for budget must be transparent and FoI will come to bare 4. separate allocation accounts, each their of government must operate its own account 5. Merit should be enforced in public recruitment and any found inducing nepotism should be relieved of his/her job n then prosecuted as sabotage (treason) 6. All national resources should be a JVC or oil, gold etc and 15% for states such resources are found Just do the above and others will fall in line |

nakaman: The same thing goes for southerners too. When GEJ was there, all military chiefs came from the South. When Stella was at the Aviation Ministry, over 70% of the newly appointed workers were from the SE. There were noises but we all moved on at the end of the day. So, tell me something unique 1 Like |

selemempe: The same banking industry that became almost became bankrupt if not for proactive measures by Sanusi. And the telecommunications industry? Tell me exactly what Obj did. He gave out licenses and approvals. It wasn't like he deployed Nigerian resources for massive infrastructural and developmental projects. GEJ can beat his chest and say he built schools and universities in all states and that he made the country the largest economy in Africa... Largest economy my yansh. You forgot to mention that that was as a result of crude oil selling at over 100 dollars per barrel. And schools built by GEJ? I'm still searching for them. The US handed their entire manufacturing industry to China on a silver platter. THAT is what pulled them out of where they were. Guess what though? China is STILL a 3rd world country and most of its people don't want to be there. That's why they're still in every other country like a bunch of roaches and rats. There are tons of Chinese that would love to be in Nigeria because China is dirty, full of criminals, and sucks. Chinese are complaining and angry because more are being denied student and work visas in the US. 1 Like |

Deregulation of the mobile phone market by Obasanjo's administration has led to the introduction of Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) network providers operating on the 900/1800 MHz spectrum, MTN Nigeria,[19] Airtel Nigeria,[20] Globacom,[21] and 9mobile. Use of cell-phones has soared, and has mostly replaced the unreliable fixed line services of Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL). argest economy my yansh. You forgot to NEWS / Nigeria becomes Africa's largest economy South Africa overtaken as biggest economy in Africa after Nigeria rebases GDP calculation to more than $500bn. 06 Apr 2014 GMT+3 Nigeria has overtaken South Africa as Africa's largest economy after a rebasing calculation almost doubled its gross domestic product to more than $500bn, data from the statistics office showed. GDP for 2013 in Africa's top oil producer was 80.22 trillion naira, or $509.9bn, the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics said on Sunday, up from the 42.3 trillion estimated before the rebasing, according to the Reuters news agency. Most governments overhaul GDP calculations every few years to reflect changes in output, but Nigeria had not done so since 1990, so sectors such as e-commerce, mobile phones and its prolific "Nollywood" film industry - now worth 1.4 percent of GDP, Kale said - had to be factored in to give a better picture. Nigeria, Africa's most populous country with 170 million people, has been growing as an investment destination owing to the size of its consumer market and growing capital markets. and schools built by GEJ? I'm still searching for them. Development in Nigeria was regionalized right from the start. To achieve this kind of China's development, our leaders must forget about regional sentiment and focus more on Nigeria's growth and development. |
