Smuggling is a crime. Rice smugglers should be sentenced to death by flogging. How can u use such unhealthy routes and means to bring in rice for people to eat and die?

You deserve a special 'Slow' award for this negative post about your nation.
Spits!
You have a special hatred for PDP and it has made you blind to the barefaced truth.
Buhari should have put up measures to improve our rice output then slowly smuggling will die a natural death.

I tell u Nigeria and Nigerians can never and ever see any meaningful progress when we justify criminal act in which ever form, the law says ban on importation of rice, and some people still justify smuggling because of high price of local rice, how will u encourage local production if u don't ban importation.any country that want development will have to shut it's doors to importation and grow local productions, the world is celebrating CHINA and INDIA today forgotten that both countries shot it's doors to importation for over 20yrs,to develop technologically, today they are better for it

This is where I believe many Nigerians get it wrong. The problem facing local farmers in Nigeria is NOT importation. There are key indices constantly against farmers. Even if you ban importation , local farming will not improve until you fix the fundamental issues. We will never be self sufficient, instead we will just have food scarcity and soaring prices as we have now.

The solution is to fix the fundamental issues. If local rice is cheap, and meets the standard of the imported commodity, smuggling will become unprofitable. It ll die naturally.

Illiteracy is terrible. What is the work of a rice mill?

My people have stopped eating foreign rice since 3 years now. No stones inside.

The people of any country that is blessed with abundant fertile land and all year-round sunlight but cannot feed itself does not deserve to exist. Such people deserve to be forced into mass slavery (once again) to countries like China and India and worked to death on farm lands and plantations with no pay.

Some may be allowed to return back to Nigeria after they must learn to appreciate the importance of self-independence. Freedom is not meant for lazy people that lack foresight and who believe in nothing but find it okay to watch and spend money on BBNaija all day.

If the reason Nigeria is not self sufficient in Feeding herself is not IMPORTATION, then what is it?

I support the total border closure. We cannot continue to enrich those countries while our fammers wallow in poverty. Let the money circulate here, we shall get there someday soon. God bless Nigeria

That's where we get it wrong as Nigerians, we give too much excuses, does bad roads and poor electric supply stop DANGOTE to build his refinery?does all the challenges in the country stop him to continue to grow all his businesses? Please go and read the history of China and India as I emphasize again?foreigners will come and invest in our country while Nigerians will steal and loot and take our common wealth go invest abroad rather than grow local production, how do u fix and improve on the fundamentals issues if u don't shot your doors to importation to grow local production

Why are they enforcing it on citizens to buy local? Instead of the local producers to improve on the quality and fix a considerable price. When the quality is good and price is on the average, i am sure our local rice will win the hearts of us all. First, i want to ask if those in the helms of affairs patronise locally made products? The answer is NO. Nonsense leaders with no positive direction.

Must you eat rice?

I eat rice here almost everyday and am even tired of it cos I don’t have access to Nigerian food unless I buy online which is very expensive.

You guys have access to everything and still complaining.

Life ain’t fair

That is always the problem with u Nigerians, go and check the amount the government is saving from foreign exchange on importation of rice, the government has to start from somewhere, to grow local production, let everyone look inward and let's grow our own local economy

Must government force us
to eat only local rice? Are we prisoners
in our own country?

They banned rice without making
arrangements for increased production.

They should allow rice in, but put high
tariffs & duties on it.

Today, local rice is going for almost
2Ok & govt doesn't care .

They say our population is growing to
fast, so, govt wants to reduce it by slowly
starving the weaker ones to death.

I will award you for the best mumu comment in Africa..Why will they bring food outside country to our county....is like cooking food outside and giving it to sick being of you.... undecided undecided
