The population of Ghana is 28million while that of Lagos is 21million so I don't understand where the comparison is coming from in the first place, Ghanaian economy works like most African economies, they export precious raw materials like bauxite, aluminuim ore, (because they have no means to process it) and import consumables like rice, pharmaceutical products, textiles same old story. We have always been the dumping ground of the world, Everybody needs somewhere to dump their crap, that's why Moroccan wants to join ECOWAS, even though they are not even situated in the region. China did not grow by throwing open it's borders, it grew by being the factory of the world, it mobilized it's workforce and made lax labour laws, now EVERYTHING is made in China, if a new fighter jet, sport car, or machinery is unveiled in the west you can be sure China would copy it and goodluck getting a Chinese court to rule in your favour, now they are leading in some aspects. Why is Iran more powerful than Saudi Arabia/UAE that imports everything? Why is Iran still standing relatively strong despite US/EU sanctions while countries like Venezuela, Zimbabwe folded like a pack of cards? Rice importation has not been banned! CBN won't grant you forex on things like rice and palm oil, That is another import that drives me crazy! PALM OIL!!!! IMPORTING PALM OIL/VEGETABLE OIL IN WEST AFRICA, big shame vaxx2: |

Blue3k:Your point has been discredited it is not true . Military spending does not correlate with might. My point was a simple one the US uses its military might to further its economic interest. You did not address that. Rather you went off at a tangent talking about military spending Did Japan become number two economy by military might.Did China overtake Japan by military might. No they used the advantage of their size and their disciplined people I do not know why the US want to build a wall ,I only know the purported reasons that they publish and claim. Nigeria has not stopped goods and services either there is a crisis and that would soon be resolved. There is no apples and oranges. The US and Mexico have Customs and technology checks we do not. I understand that there is a proposal that everything crossing the border for trade should be containerized which is good. There is nothing different between what we are doing and what the US is doing in international law. The tactics and technology may differ but they are the same Actually the US breaches WTO rules and WTO rules are NOT Free trade rules according to your definition. Perhaps you cannot get your head around how the use of sanctions can be used as a tactic to improve the chances of US businessmen especially when the greatest competition is coming from the sanctioned parties. Like I said the US tactics may not be as blunt as border closures but they are ultimately protectionist and pervade virtually every industry How do we explain the pressure on the UK not to adopt Huawei technology? https://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/business/Ghana-spends-1-1-billion-on-rice-importation-Deputy-Trade-Minister-reveals-699410 The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Robert Ahomka Lindsay has disclosed that Ghana imported rice worth $1.1 billion in 2017. According to him, rice importation “takes 82% of all imports into the country”. Mr. Lindsay said, the leading product imported into Ghana every year from Vietnam is rice, which is by far the largest contributor to the import quota. The Deputy Minister indicated, “We spent $1.1 billion last year on rice importation to Ghana”. He strongly believe it is about time Ghana added value to its raw materials for exports in order to gain more from the resources of the country. “This government’s focus and direction is on industrial transformation thus transforming our economy, the same transformation Vietnam went through some years ago led by its SME,” he said. https://www.businessghana.com/site/news/business/167665/Ghana-imports-over-US1-162-billion-worth-of-rice-annually-Minister I hope to read back from you soon........ urahara: |

You didnt discredit anything. The spending and economy are roughly similar. The millitary spending fact came into picture when you disputed point. The US economic competitiveness in Africa isn't a result of military dominance. It's African trade dominance is more about aid and assistance programs plus friendly relations pre and post cold war. Yes the USA uses navy to police global shipping lanes but that helps everyone in general. China got big by liberalization economy and allowing investment. India and Russia wont catch up to japan anytime soon because they wont implement necessary policies. There is a difference between open and closed land borders vs wall. Sanctions and tarriffs are similar tools. WTO does facilitate free trade and gives agreed upon rules their are acceptions as stated on website. USMCA, EU and other similar organizations also count. Sanctions dont benefit US interest all the time. Cheaper energy prices help out our trading partners and ourselves in case of Iran. USA only went back on deal to help Israel. China is military rival of the US. It doesn't make sense to allow them to technology that csn have backdoor. 1 Like |

Blue3k: Your military spending matrix is discredited. China and its people are very different from Indian people in terms of work ethic and entrepreneurial character. I assume you are handicapped by poor knowledge of history of China and its people. The success of Chinese entrepreneurs is evidenced in Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia and Hong Kong China grew as a result of protectionist policies which countries like the USA are now trying to push back against not because they followed IMF prescriptions or subscribed to phantom free trade ideology. China allowed investments on its own terms often with "technology transfer stipulations" China did not beg for investment. The West had a huge stake in Hong Kong which fell into Chinese hands and the market and workforce was there more than in India Nigeria has not wised up to that and that is why after 50 years Julius Berger still uses white engineers whereas China enforced technology transfer vigorously US navy helps everyone in general? I do not see how it helps us. Bombing Libya is something we continue to pay a huge price for while US companies snap up oil blocs. That is part of Trade. It has always been it is just more sophisticated |

This means that about GH¢10.8 billion (one dollar to GH¢4.5) is used to import rice, sugar, sorghum, frozen chicken and meat, among other food items, for domestic and industrial consumption on annual basis. “It is almost not about the people importing; it is about us agreeing that there will be some shortfalls for the next three, four or five years as we ramp up our production,” he said. https://www.myjoyonline.com/business/2019/March-20th/ghana-to-end-tomato-imports-cut-rice-imports-by-50-in-2019.php Ministry of Food and Agriculture says it is looking to cut down imports of rice by 50 per cent as well as end the importation of tomato this year. https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/dfe2/9277124485ad3fea16a7a26f2cc416e21a00.pdf To meet the supply deficit, Ghana imports about 70% of its rice consumption requirement from Asia I really don't understand why Ghanaians are ranting and angry about Nigeria doing what other nations including theirs have done, and are doing, |

StaffofOrayan:I actually don't get it . repeating the mantra of the custom boss. "" A country than cannot feed itself is not worth calling itself a country"" That is basically bullshit. United Arab Emirates import almost everything she eats except maybe dates and some very basic food capable of growing in the saheel , this is also the same with Germany which is the second largest importer and third largest exporter of consumer oriented agricultural products worldwide, and by far the most important European market for foreign producers, yet it has one of the most enviable economy . until you understand that importation itself is not harmful but failure to annexed the opportunity that comes with it. Nigeria should be talking about industrialization not agriculture practise like the days of Noah This is simply a discussion anyway , whoever feed you the lies, there is no America millitary base in Ghana . and if America millitary base exist, what is wrong ? though there is none. There is America millitary base In United kingdom , Japan, Germany and most of the powerful nation that are way prosperous than Ghana yet it is not a problem. Get it, one of the way weaker nation maintain stability is hiding thru the arms of powerful nation , you don't argue equal terms with a country that can cast you of the surface in a blink of eye . millitary power is even far more important than balanced economy . You don't do these by subjugating yourself but by exchanging mutual policy and strenghten diplomacy on equal terms. This is the purpose of African union , same purpose of ecowas and likewise United nation. . How will Nigeria agree to have equal right with Gambia if mutual co-operation were not in place?. This is why leader like kwame inkrumah argue for single africa millitary . I.2 billion africa as a state is even scary to even America. Have you ask yourself what is keeping Ghana off from attack even when nations very close to her like Burkina and cote devoire have been attack many times. Ghana once was used as a rescue mission to save Nigeria ..... read here.... there is power in diplomacy. https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2017/08/us-china-mission-rushes-bomb-grade-nuclear-fuel-out-africa when it comes to matter of importation, Ghana has a regulated standard. you can't just import dirt into Ghana. Go CHECK ghana market and see the kind of product entering the country , and there is current plan to monitor the kinds of phones and computer gadget entering the country to ease off fake product . Haiti should have be proactive in that measure . However, no other country can create a full economy and supply itself by its own resources than America. Only a few materials does America lack. All other countries are very much worse off.
