Except the main thrust of our argument is that it's doesn't look ahead.. Accra failed the picture test...actually the COMMON SENSE test....Nigeria once claimed to have 500B dollar economy and we now know without any doubts that it world poverty capital.
The same way Kenya doesn't look like a $100bn economy. The slums, joblessness and starvation. wink

Fact still remains that ordinary Ghanaians live in better houses
Have better health care
attend better schools.
have better access to services.

Why doesn't it reflect in GDP per capita? Your GDP per capita should be twice kenya. You should basically be a middle class country - where likes of Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and South Africa are.

Look at China - they recently got to 50% urbanization.

I see you run into poverty - I wonder what the Nigerian will say smiley.

At 50% urbanization - your poverty should be nearly history. I know when Kenya get to 50% urbanization we would have made poverty history.

When it come to poverty data - I have seen something like Ghana has poverty rate of 24% against kenya 36%(in 2015 - should be around 30%) now.

Just30:
the fruit of Ghana urbanization is the fact that
we've moved 60% 0f our poor people out of farming to feed themselves
into the service sector and farming on a large scale.

thereby making them middle class citizens

its not bad to dream.
By the time you reach 50% urbanization

there wont be any poor people in Ghana

I see you are back to opening many threads. You failed the common sense test of prosperity. It only exist in data. And you produced 5.2M metric tonnes of cement. You peak power demand is 2,500Mw with about half of that going to minning

Cooking data has not helped you wade off IMF from runnin your country for nearly all your years as "independent" country.

Mkenya2019:
Run away ? Again we are here to have conversation - not for you to bombard me with half-thought half-baked questions - when you have hardly done any research or understood the concepts.

Let me answer you the first one and ask you one question related to it. Then we move to the next one.

Quiz 1) Urbanization.

Kenya is EXACTLY where it's supposed to be urbanization wise. Urbanization is great - it should lead to greater economic development.Ghana & her big brother Nigeria claims to be 50% urbanized - which is all good except when I google ' GHANA GDP per Capita' and ' Kenya GDP per Capita' I don't see Ghana nearly twice urbanized population kicking the economic ars.e..

Ghana - 1,641.49 USD (2017)
Kenya - 1,507.81 USD (2017)

I think as of 2019 - Kenya is around 2,000 and Ghana is slightly ahead - maybe 2,200. Even if we look at PPP - not much difference.

Now the question for you. Why is that despite Nigeria & Ghana being so urbanized, poverty is that rampant? Where are the fruits of that urbanization? Why do you urban centers look really BAD?

I can tell you for free - when Kenya reaches 50% urbanization ( we are urbanizing at 4% annually) - somewhere after 2030 - we will look like South Africa or Namibia - proper middle class countries.

You and Sammy the dreamer (for Nigeria curious case) can answer us now...and we can move to the next question.

I stopped reading when I saw your lies pertaining your $2000 per capita

even with the US kind of urbanization

there are still 40 million poor americans

forget about eliminating poverty
its impossible.

But like US, you can make your citizens lives better even when they are poor.
provide good roads, schools, hospitals, job opportunities

a poor person in Ghana can do labour works and put up a three bedroom house for his family.
that is the Ghanaian dream.

whiles you are dreaming

2019, Ghana poverty figure is 20% which is 6 million people.

whiles that of Kenya has increased to 40%

100s of 1000s of Ghanaians are skilled workers in Libya
they worked in the oil industry, manufacturing, construction and service industries of that country.

the ordinary Kenyan has no skill and therefore a labourer on tea farms of Qatar and multinationals

There are many countries that have made extreme poverty history including many in Africa.Relative poverty cannot be eliminated. For example in many developed countries like US anyone earning less than 20k dollars a year is considered poor but definitely they have eliminated extreme poverty (1.9 dollars a day a person).Even a beggar in US can surely ace that. When did Kenya poverty increase when every data has been suggesting drastic drop of poverty.I think now should be well under 30% not far from cooked Ghana 20% despite urbinazation or shanization or whatever you call those mega slumpolis

I was shocked of how little their tax man collects per annum,I'd expect a much richer population to contribute more! There is something funny about their huge exports that it seems they aren't benefitting much from it.

Imagine a country with a 14% tax to gdp ratio lecturing you in anything!

If the data is not cooked - shows us the pictures or images of that prosperity. Why again I ask is your GDP per capita equal to kenya. 70B/30B and 100B/48B despite a re-basing that most thought was curious and despite being 'alleged' 50% urbanized like middle class countries.

What are all those 15M Ghanians doing in urban centers where all your exports is minerals and cocoa beans?

Which services sectors? Your hotel sector is nothing to write home about? Your banking and insurance sector the same? Your transport, retail & wholesaling nothing. Your real estate NOTHING.

Just informal sector where a typical Ghanaian in Accra or Kumasi opens a pop & mom shop, trade in banku (dog?),rodents & fish on the roadside, drives 30yr old taxi, open a roadside eatery. maybe a salon & hair dressing shop, car repair heck with spare parts shop owned by a Nigerian smiley, the kind of mess that you see in slums...NOT MODERN URBAN CENTERS.

That is why 15 m urbanization has not produced any tangible economic benefits.

Kenya is still largely rural - and they are engaged in small holder farming - some of the best small holder farming in the world.
