Our retail sector is again only below SA,

Our transport sector is on another level, we are an aviation hub, marine hub etc.

The third question? Why is Kenya doing debt-refinancing. This one is the easiest. SO WE DO NOT BECOME ANOTHER GHANA - an IMF colony.

We know at our level of (under) development - a low middle class country - our debt to gdp - should be around 50% - with debt repayments not exceed 30% of the revenues/budget. That is what prudent debt management demands.

So when our debt to gdp started to approach 60% - from around 55% - we stop debt leveraging - and started debt refinancing. Once our GDP grows - and our debt to gdp drop below 50% - we will start DEBT LEVERAGING (taking in new debt)

Debt refinancing is used by many countries including US, China and even private companies
Here is Apple - https://www.cnbc.com/2019/09/08/apple-pockets-cheap-debt-refinancing-heres-the-big-money-lesson.html

What it mean is basically your borrow new loans at better terms - and don't really get the cash - but use the loan to retire the old expensive loans.

One example is our last eurobond..in 2019...we took it and use parts of the proceed to retire the other eurobond.

https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/news/Treasury-gets-Sh125bn-loans-to-refinance-debt/539546-5092412-r8wb35z/index.html

http://www.treasury.go.ke/media-centre/news-updates/608-kenya-successfully-issues-us-dollar-2-1-billion-euro-bond-on-15th-may-2019.html

"We reduced debt by paying off an already existing debt and took a fresh loan; so no change in debt stock to the extent of the maturing loan repaid.

"This is called liability management in international finance circles,” Treasury secretary Henry Rotich told Business Daily.

This what PRUDENT DEBT MANAGEMENT REALLY IS ALL ABOUT.

“There’s no addition in debt stock,” Dr Sirima told Business Daily. “The whole idea is to manage costs and risks. It is purely a debt management operation.”

We cannot procure new loans like a drunken Ghanian sailor when we are already near the red line (60%) - Ghana plays around 75% (and this year despite rebasing will exceed 60%). That is why IMF is always in Accra because you cannot manage your finances

And you're thinking of borrowing a century bond smiley smiley - how will you repay all those loans!!!!!!!!!!! or you think there are free money out there.

We don't yet sell our tea to west africa - small volumes - you still call tea - English breakfast - a novelty in West Africa preferring to eat rodents - kenya black tea is popular in countries that consume black tea - pakistan, egypt, sudan, england, afghanistan - the likes of algeria, tunisia, morocco prefer green tea.

Kenya Tea brands - each brand has many varieties.
Kericho Gold.
Ketepa.
Melvins.
Equitorial Natural.
Baraka.
Lipton.
Eden.

etc etc.

For example Ketepa tea

Melvins Tea.

when i go to Morrocco and Egypt i will check for your tea and see

when did Lipton become a kenyan brand ?

Just say you don't like my answers. Ghana debt at start of the year was 50% (after re-basing grew the economy by 25%) - last year it was 75% or about - and anyway as we speak now it's heading to 60%.

Now if you were a sober country - then when you start heading 57% - then all red lights should be bleeping - and you should STOP borrowing (leveraging) - and start managing the debt - by doing debt refinancing.

Otherwise once you get 75% again - IMF will be back - because you won't meet your debt obligation - CEDIS will depreciate even more - and country again will grind to halt.

Swiss and Korean have zero footprint in Ghana - they take your cocoa beans to Switzerland and make the chocolate bars there. Unilever Tea has tea farms, factories and name it in Kenya. How about 10kms from my rural home is Lipton Tea factory. Unilver Tea used to be listed in NSE - Limuru Tea owned by Unilver is listed still. Unilver Tea employs thousands of kenyans.

still not a problem

why?
we havent gotten to the point where we will have to borrow to repay old debts.

4th Quiz - Kenya borrowing to prop Kshs is unsupported by any evidence. Find us a link showing Kenya's Treasury is borrowing to help Central Bank prop shillings. Central Bank has rarely gone to market the last few years to buy or sell dollars.

For isntance as we speak Kshs has strengthen to around 101 to a dollar after falling to 104...and it plays around there based mostly on market forces...with CBK rarely having to intervene.
