You could be right bro. Since we have hearing loss, we have fewer distractions by way of noise or music when barbing, so we focus all our visual attention towards a good haircut. I don't even play music in my salon despite the insistence of some of my clients because I see no reason to be playing music in my own shop when I myself can't hear it.
I noticed, cos the two people that have hearing loss and barbs around here have more customer than all of the barbers combined around here, y'all are the 8th wonder of the world lol.

Roof expert is here sir...

Goodgod213:
After I saw how my dad suffered to raise the two of us I and my sibling till the company he was working with went down. We started living from one aunt house to uncles houses. I have been thrown out on four occasions, accused of stealing on many occasions, starved by family, disowned by my own mother who is in the abroad sending monies to different people in Nigeria and disregarding her son because I looked like my father. At 21 I moved to ibadan, stayed with a friend, dumped by my gf, Hustled to get my cert, did my Nysc, hustled more, bought a land at ibadan, bought my first car, bought another car, moved down to Lagos, rented a apartment.

Now I have a unisex salon, a boutique, a car listed on Bolt, and Presently working on roofing my project.

It’s not been easy. Not all women are mothers.

We were so poor...I could not go to uni when all my friends were.

Here's what helped....

1. I read Lots of books. Motivational books. Business books. Marketing books. One that helped me know there was more to life was Robert Schuller book 'Tough times don't last but tough people do'. I borrowed a foto copied version from a friend. That was in 1997. I would Starve myself so I can buy books. Sometimes I foto copy from other people or borrow it.

By 2007...i stumbled on some CDs by Sam Adeyemi and he advised the best way to get out of poverty is to learn a skill and make money from it.

2. I learnt a skill. That paid lots of money. I learnt copywriting. Online marketing. Direct response marketing. I ready everything and watched all videos I could find online by Frank Kern....Dan Kennedy and started applying it.

3. I would read a lot about rich people. Wht they do. What houses they buy....what business they run. How they make money.

4. I would also read any business book. Financial newspapers. I am that person that would buy a newspaper to see the adverts in it and trace what those companies do.

Overtime...I started making money. Made first million in 2008. And then just rinse and repeat.

I have lost millions too. But a lot better now financially. Travelled the world. Met lot of people. Built contact.

And at the ripe age of 35 got a degree from a foreign University.

Funny enough....that degree is now useless. Even in full time employment in my country of residence...i have never been asked for the certificate. What matters most is my skills.
Brother me please put me on through

Poverty has stages

I don’t know if i should say i was born with poverty but i could categorically sense that, with the way almost everyone us looked down on us each time made me realize i have to prove everyone wrong. Especially being the only son with three sisters.

Although, i have grown and healed from the whole events. but i must advise anyone going through all sort of financial pain or poverty to try free themselves from fears and limitations.

There is nothing you can not achieve even at a young age if you put through with the right habits that will transform you to greatness.
Last paragraph is full of wisdom sir. Weldone.

Does being perpetually broke and poverty qualify as the same thing? A lot of us grown ups are entering poverty then.
Re: For People Who Grew Up Poor And Eventually Escaped Poverty, Whats Your Story? by Obatolysis(m): 7:32pm On Mar 25, 2020
I saw everything about poverty. I lived with poverty and dined with poverty. First of all, things weren't that bad for us. My dad was a business man in Ikeja and his business was blooming. My mum is a RN and she worked at Eko Hospital Ikeja. My Dad made 3 major mistakes that left us in poverty
1) Spent so much on his siblings (He was the eldest) to the extent of sponsoring his brother's travel to S/Africa for his business have little savings
2) Sold a lot of goods on Credit, which eventually crumbled the business
3)Kept making babies despite his worsening economic situation

No 3 was the greatest of all. The bills kept coming. Seven of us with little spacing. We all had to go to School. We all had to eat. The first sign was when we had to stop school (I was in Primary 4 purple in St Leo's catholic school Ikeja), missed a term (1st term Pry 5) and then started 2nd term Primary 5 in Anifowoshe Primary School Ikeja.

Things got worse. My mum got fired at EKO Hospital, at same moment as my paternal grandmother died and most of the burial responsibility on the shoulder of my dad who was already in chronic financial distress. My parents left the three first of us to the hands of our kind neighbours for 3 months (9 years then) without any form of contact as there was no phone then. At last, we all relocated to the Village. Even in the village there was no money for School. Aunties and Uncles came to our rescue taking each of my siblings leaving just me and my immediate junior brother and the twins last born. After 1 year in the village under all form of untold hardship at a tender age, my mum got a job in a private hospital in osina with a meagre salary (Nurses are suffering in this country).

Opportunity came my way as I got Admission into Rochas Foundation College Owerri which was complete Scholarship from JS1 to SS3 (boarding house) with some grants. The Foundation paid for everything, WAEC, SSCE, JAMB. With God on my side, I made my papers at one sitting and got admission to read Medicine and Surgery in UNIZIK. Even as ex students of the foundation, the foundation never left us alone, presenting us with cheque of #50k (2009-2015) annually for the period of Study. God bless Rochas Okorocha. Luckily for me, I got another scholarship in my second year down to my final year, Agbami Scholarship, presenting 200k yearly. So in 2015, I became a medical doctor and worked in various pp after my housemanship and Nysc. My junior brother became a barrister. My senior brother too is a medical doctor. My mother also got a job in Imo State Local government service currently working as a Senior Matron in a comprehensive health center. My brother is post plab 2 currently waiting for Covid 19 to settle down to jappa from this country. I'm currently doing my residency training in a tertiary hospital in Nigeria. My four siblings still in School anyway but things are much better now. My Dad still owns a small shop to pass time anyway.

Lesson 1: Don't be in a hurry to marry. Be financially stable before thinking of marriage

Lesson 2: I no go born pass 2 pikin. Fullstop.

Lesson 3 : Having Savings and option B for the rainy days

Lesson 4: If possible leave Nigeria and secure for your kids Citizenship in Developed countries

Hmmmmm....July 1990, my parents and siblings finally agreed, I will drop out of school to learn how to sell beef because they couldn't cope. It was a central public school. Development levy was N10 or so but we couldnt afford it (I chop cane real good). I was quite disboident and rascally my master had to chase me away. I couldn't go back home (rumours were already spreading that I would be hanged if found at home). I had to go to the central mission ....That was how bad things were. (Mission school was for orphans) and we had a decent meal only on the feast of st johnbosco.
If I had done well at the mission, I would have become a priest. My older brother was an electrian and he could afford to provide garri while I attended high school. At the university things changed I got grants from IITA, and internship opportunities in Ibadan. I joined a consulting firm after NYSC, had a brief stint in the industry (FMCG tobacco) where i was senior manager and back to consulting and retired.

Education paid off big time, when I showed my sister my first offer letter she couldn't speak for 2days.

If you are passing through trials and it seems your world is caving in...it will pass away.

I won't call my family a poor family and neither will I call it a rich family, we were just there, my father tried his best in providing for us and seeing us through school and my mom, diamond mother, the best mother on earth did more than what I can explain in words to ensure I and my siblings succeeded in life. I can hardly remember my mother eating breakfast while growing up. I even thought it is normal for a mother not to eat breakfast but didn't know she was only trying to preserve the meals for it to reach us cry

She prayed, worked hard, starved, did all manner of businesses to support the family's income, and she never joked with men of God. Anything men of God, be it our own church or any church, she just loved sowing in the life of men of God and this I strongly believe paved way for me and my siblings.

We did farming, we did hawking, I and my siblings with the leadership of my mother did virtually everything human can do to survive. I just can't list them here.

Also I was homeless at a point in Lagos. I did a very undignified job after NYSC just to pull through.

But today, my family is like the pillar of our LGA you cannot ignore in any decision making kiss

Now back to the story.

Personally, I suffered a lot. Due to the fact that my dad was a federal civil servant and with the nature of his role, we moved from one state to another, even to remote villages, making me change school and friends like wrapper, and this also affected me emotionally and in many other ways.

Because of my number in the family, I was still in secondary school when my father retired so things turned so soar that I did so many things to survive. I helped my mother in all manner of businesses she did, of course she didn't have a defined business, she just ventured into any trending moving business at the time so this affected me academically, but thank God for his natural gift of intelligence which made it easy for me to grasp anything I read or glance my eyes on.

My elderly siblings were fortunate and made it big which helped relief the burden on my parents for a while before my elder bro married a bad woman who then succeeded in turning him away from the family and he stopped helping us and my parents were retired at this time.

With time some other siblings picked up and we forgot him.

After school and NYSC, I found it difficult to secure a good paying job which also inspired my in born desire to own a business of my own. So when I finally secured a job, I didn't rely on the job, I started a business by the side, an online business.

My advice to young Nigerian youths reading, please don't neglect the opportunities internet offers. I can boldly say that internet made me who I am today. Internet liberated me. God bless my elder brother that introduced internet and computer appreciation to me at early age.

I am forever indebted to him till I die.

I built my own very successful company through the internet. My company has taken me places that my degree and academic prowess could not take me. And this company I built and developed it from the internet and today it is growing steadily and employing people which makes me so proud in life that I can now employ people and pay them, God I bless you everyday!

To all the ladies reading, stop underrating your younger brother in-laws, stop maltreating them, most of them will end up richer than that your husband you feel is Aliko Dangote today. Help your in-laws, stop being a bad and wicked woman. Being good does not cost much. Stop looking down on any guy now, future is very Pregnant oh!!

My last advice again to youths, please take internet seriously. Stop scam, stop internet scam, it pays for the mean time but it can never give you a sustainable income and success.

Find a major societal problem today and find a way to use the internet solve that problem and be committed to it, don't give up, continue doing it and you will testify with time.

Internet is a major key to success of youths from poor family background all over the world. Government cannot change your life, internet will if you use it judiciously.

Learn to programme, learn to code, learn web designing while in school and be dedicated to it.

Learn JavaScript that programming language is amazing.

I am not rich yet but I am seeing light and I give all the glory to God.

Above all help others. Help others! Help people around you. Help your friends they are very vital oh, help them!! Keep good and quality friends very important to your growth more than your relatives!

Be honest in your dealings and build integrity so people can trust you with their money and business.

I wish you all the best.

Success is a mindset...I was a poor individual, a poor student but omo I am that person you'd have to kill and cut off his head before I ever give up. So here I am, doing decently for myself and my family.

I have starved, I have seen my parents and siblings hungry. I have run away from home twice just to escape poverty.

I have sold bread, pure water, akamu, I have worked in a pure water factory when they were all manual, I have seen my parents swallow their pride to borrow just so we'd go to school and have something to feed on, I have seen all this and I don't blame no village people.

All I needed through all this travails was an opportunity and the mindset to see it as one.

Don't get me started with the hand me downs, JESU! I wish no man poverty, no matter what side of the Niger you find yourself, it's worse than death. In death, you are at peace.

How did I do it: I read alot, I started doing graphics design and video editing to augment, switched to adding one or two kpali by browsing newspapers to know what's the latest professional course to do for the career of my choice, tried my hands in so many useless certifications that I had to chuck most of them.

I have confidence, my balls are made of brass and I am a fast learner.

Everything day brings it's own opportunities and I try to learn one new thing a day. Every useless information I have learned had come in handy in my current profession.

I waste nothing.

My advise, No fear anybody, nah hustle we all come this life to hustle, the highest them go talk nah NO, the worst they can do is call security.
I like your spirit

born and bred in the "not so fancy" suburbs of this world, i was always raised to believe in myself, so long as i followed my dreams.... so i found a job i am passionate about that lets me travels the world, and been doing this shiit for "way too long" lol!

to be rich is a state of mind, i dont need a private jet to be rich, bucketlist is fully ticked off, i am rich with life experiences 20 times over.

so many people are wasting their lives while being desperate running after riches, instead of enjoying life fully... regardless of your situation or the little money/riches you may have, count your blessings and ENJOY LIFE ALWAYS.

I was born with a Silver Spoon but things were a bit rough growing up, I studied at the prestigious MIT In the United States, I graduated with a First Class, earned $120,000 per year after graduation, got promoted after a few years, I have been working as a partner occupying the role of Technical Manager with Microsoft for over 11 years and earn $325,000 a year before taxes including bonuses.

Today, I look at my life and realize how far i have come, every year i donated half of my salary to the person who needs it most.
