I think the St-1 is from the same family of ZBL the Chadians Abi na Cameroonians use. But if the Sagaie were refurbished(not just painting o) it could complement.

Agreed without reservation.

We have an army engineering Corp.

When you retrofit your own RWS, FLIR and target acquisition soft Ware. You save yourself 75% of the cost of refurbishment.

It's not rocket science very straight forward stuff.

We can even upgrade the mine resistance by using cheap Indian steel.

I made an informed deduction from the facts presented by General Adeniyi.

General Adeniyi had standing right beside him two other Generals and explained they were the sector commanders for two different Battalions.

All three of them were in the forward position with the three MRAP's. A Battalion will have at the very minimum 500 troops, that equates to 1500 troops in that sector.

How three Battalions have 3 MRAP's between them for a frontal assault is very shocking to me.

He said "3 Battalion " , which infers 3 Bat headquarted in Effurun, Warri. NOT 3 battalions. Rewatch the video and put into proper context. He couldn't have had more than 1 or 2 composite companies of approximately 250-400 men. Maybe 200 men even depending on field factors. There's no way the whole of c600 mem (max) of 3 Bat will be in Maiduguri, but just components.

Don't get me wrong, it takes nothing away from the terrible optics of the video. Only adjusting the perspective.

Aside: Nice new acquisitions. Hoping they hot them in substantial quantities.

At least this tanks should be usefull against the gun trucks. Its a $152 million deal. 17 vehicles were delivered today including the MBT, light tanks and some artilleries.
Unit cost of VT4-$3million
Unit cist of armata - $3.7 million
I think we went for the better deal considering the VT4 has almost all that the armata has for a lesser price.
The fact that we didn't hear anything about this deal till it was delivered means FG is keeping a lot of deals secret. I hope so sha.
Hope we see more hardwares in the next few months

African government prefer the Chinese route for arms procurement not because of quality. It's simply because the Chinese not averse to " sharp practices" kick back to offshore accounts it's how business is done. A good reason for us not hear anything.

We bought sub standard copy cat engineering Mig 21 from China for hundreds of millions of $$$. When you could buy used MIG 21 from with better airframes and resilience, for a fraction of the price.

Now I am involved in procurement across Europe but not Military. So if l know these things, I don't believe our top brass dont know this too.

Buying 20+ MBT and 30 + Light tanks will not provide the coverage required. They are required but not the main thing.

They need far better communications infrastructure. And light armoured type MRAP vehicles that will not get stuck in the terrain that are fast and mobile that give you some stealth in your search and destroy missions.

All should have RWS with the full suite that gives you clear cut advantage over the enemy.

At this stage NA should be able to have at least 25 UAV to Cover the hot spots of the NE.

My opinion this is not best value for Nigeria and will give very limited relief.

Have you ever seen three Generals commanding one Battalion and or three General leading the forward assault at the same time.

I plead ignorance of how things are done in the Nigerian armed forces and how it comprises it's formation numbers.

But l am using general international standards western.

It was not presumption that the other two generals were the Battalion commanders because that's what was stated. To quote Gen. Adeniyi verbatim "The three Battalions are standing and fighting" That's a plural not singular.

Your Inference has absolutely nothing to underpin it with.

So my position remains unless you are saying that a Battalion has less than 250 men in the context of Nigeria.

To win a contract is not only about the quality . it deppend on many things . the price ( thailand had a limited budget) , the version and options offered , transfer of thechnology ,maintnance terms (Beijing offered to build a major maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Khon Kaen, Thailand ) , the politic relations also .

Add that only thailand bought them in small numbers . so even if its a very good tank , we cant compare with the export succes of the T90 and Abrams

Cheapest does not equate to the best value.

For instance how old are the Alpha jets and how new are the copy engineering Chinese mig 21 i.e. F7. Which have been more reliable and effective?

I admit to unrepentant bias, l would rather have a German engineered, 5 years old Mercedes-Benz G Wagon than a Chinese BAIC G80 or rebranded IVM G80 attempted G Wagon copy.

Furthermore, l also would never use Thailand quality control as a bench mark for quality.

Scores Killed

Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole in the North-East have engaged some Boko Haram terrorists who attempted to infiltrate the Nigerian Army location at 3 Battalion in the Gamboru area of Borno State, during which scores of the fighters were shot dead.

The Defence Headquarters, Abuja, said on Wednesday that the Boko Haram and Islamic State West African Province terrorists came to the military location with seven gun trucks on Monday but met a stiff resistance from the troops.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Brig. Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, said in a statement that the troops seized three gun trucks, two anti-aircraft guns, two AK-47 rifles and one rocket propelled grenade tube from the insurgents.

Onyeuko said, “Troops of 3 Battalion and Quick Response Force Army Super Camp 11 in Gamboru on a targeted patrol had yet another fierce encounter with some Boko Haram and ISWAP marauders in a convoy of seven gun trucks and many motorcycles approaching the battalion’s location at about 6pm on Tuesday.

“Consequently, the criminals were overpowered and pursued up to the Wurge area. No soldier lost his life, and no military equipment was seized during the encounter.”

Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. John Enenche, said there was no rift between the Nigerian and Chadian armed forces as being insinuated in some quarters based on the Chadian troops’ battles with the Boko Haram insurgents.

While fielding questions from newsmen in Abuja, Enenche denied that there was rivalry between Nigeria and Chad or any other country in the Lake Chad basin.

He said, “The Nigerian component of the Multi-National Joint Task Force together with other members from the Lake Chad Basin Commission has been involved in clearance operation around the Lake Chad Basin.

“This is the fallout of the recent offensive actions of the armed forces of Nigeria in the North-East Operation Lafiya Dole.

“There is no disagreement between the Nigerian and Chadian troops and joint operations are ongoing.

“The combined effort of troops of the land component, maritime component and air component has resulted in the neutralisation of scores of the Boko Haram terrorists and ISWAP elements.”

It would help when you respond to give comprehensive examples.

Maybe l am wrong but l have never heard of a Chadian army base been over run, taken over for days, multiple soldiers killed and weapons carted off and or destroyed.

This is the first time it seems to have happened to the Chadians please correct me factually if I'm wrong.
Kabe1 have posted such facts —of their loss. Even a simple google search will help

Boko have been literally uprooted comprehensively wiped out from Chad in the space of a week.

In Comparison how long have Boko made Sambisa thier operating home base without being uprooted ❓ What has been the comprehensive response by the NA.

How many Nigerian armed forces bases have been over run by BOKO and sometimes they Boko have done a rerun and come back . In the past 10 years❓

If you think 20 dead here and there and a bursting off their stashes equals "wiping out", then I'm afraid, this discussion will go in circles

Back to the question of best value.

To make a difference you need to be able to deploy sufficient number of assistance to give yourself over riding advantage.

BMP 2 are dirt cheap have some issues with the fuel tanks in the rear doors. But they can still be very effective.

How much do they cost used from multiple suppliers in the former Eastern block. Probably about $40k per unit. Effectively less than a Toyota Land cruiser gun truck. I speculated not substantiated that we probably pay $45k for each Toyota gun truck we buy. Anybody know what we pay.

In this regard we shouldn't be buying anything less that 200 units, that will completely change the dynamics on the ground.

I am not a great fan of the BTR 80, think the Ukrainian BTR3 are better. Again easily procured with RWS and some basic FLIR. Between $35- 120K depending if you want to retrofit and do the upgrades yourself.

In this regard we should procure at least 500, stop our troops going in the back of Big yellow dumpster trucks and soft skinned pick ups.
I also don't like the BTRs but they're dirt cheap and they could be gotten fast AND IMPORTANTLY they are quite fit for purpose...Even if we have just 12 per Battalion, with MRAPs complementing

Like you said based on your own opinion !
Stop deceiving yourself, “US simply no longer wants to fight not that they can’t win”. where did you get that from or who told you that, infact the US loves to fight war and flex there muscles and it’s in there DNA to fight and history is there to show it.
When the French left Vietnam the US took over to flex there muscles, we all know what happen last last, they withdrew there troops it was a stalemate. Same thing is happening in the Middle East the Russian couldn’t defeat the mujahideen, backed by the United States now the Russians where tired and left. The same thing is happening to the US, they want to make peace with every terrorist there once sponsored.
Infact the Americans & NATO are making the Middle East worst by the day including Lydia, it’s becoming worst by the day even an unstable mind knows that with all there super power.

Dude war is not a game the Americans are tired and have reached there “diminishing law of return” ? Over 18 years and still on battling terrorism globally. Sure some politicians and war mongers, defense contractors wouldn’t want an end to these dirty wars.
But the soldiers who risks the odds are fucking tired

What is the objective of the US in Afghanistan presently?

With most speaking on the assumption that their remarks would not become public, U.S. officials acknowledged that their warfighting strategies were fatally flawed

Several of those interviewed described explicit and sustained efforts by the U.S. government to deliberately mislead the public. They said it was common at military headquarters in Kabul — and at the White House — to distort statistics to make it appear the United States was winning the war when that was not the case.

Since the US strategy was fatally flawed according to you, why are the Talibans willing to negotiate even after the US asked them to go fvck themselves twice?

Since 2001, more than 775,000 U.S. troops have deployed to Afghanistan, many repeatedly. Of those, 2,300 died there and 20,589 were wounded in action, according to Defense Department figures.

So in a 19yrs conflict based on your figures BTW, 0.3% KIA and 2.3% WIA means failure, defeat & fatally flawed strategy?

Because they it is the cheaper way to achieve the victory they want. US will leave totally, taliban will become a legal political party again and be sure that they will rule Afghanistan again very soon.

Just wish we will be getting some surveillance and reconnaissance equipment soon

This makes no sense.

The US entered Afghanistan because 3,000 Americans were killed in 9/11.

The US has the world's largest forward force projection. Whether in Colombus or Kandahar they can deliver the punch.

The US is making the deal with the Taliban because after nearly 20 years of US and NATO military operations in Afghanistan, they have come to the realisation that they cannot win militarily.

What is the objective that needs to be won in Afghanistan?

America, a weak enemy? Lol.

From what I can see the Taliban are not and have never been serious about negotiations. I remember reading an intelligence briefing to that effect, but then anyone could easily see that.

So, why are the Taliban negotiating? Mainly to bamboozle, and to show their power.

Remember the almighty US has endlessly said it would never ever negotiate with terrorists. Then imagine them going cap in hand to negotiate with some sandal-wearing towelheads who can't count up to 100 but can reassemble an AK 47 blindfolded.

So, the negotiations are a great propaganda coup for the Taliban. They will cheerfully negotiate an end to American occupation and agree to share power with the Afghan government. Once the Americans are gone they will reopen their offensive and make Afghanistan theirs once again.
They agreed to negotiate because they have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
