I saw a video on twitter today showing the COAS leading operations in the NE(that's what it was tagged) mere looking at the convoy, the type of vehicles used(Hilux)and the way they were advancing my heart was just beating. Many things went through my mind, it's very easy to lay ambush on our troops walai! Just one land mine/ IED will wreck havoc. I don't know why I am just irritated seeing those Innoson pickup/Toyota Hilux as our primary patrol vehicles, our guys are just too exposed, and genuinely feel for them putting into Cognizance the fact that just one bullet within the kill zone of the body is enough. I still insist we if possible sign a bond with Proforce for continuous production of Mraps infact we can help them expand production line by giving them necessary support (loans) same for NA's Ezugwu Mraps, if Innoson can manufacture APCs/Mraps they too should be given massive contracts, we need to relegate the Hilux for transport of logistics in other part of the country that are peaceful not a hot zone like NE. 12 Likes 1 Share |

15 of the 9/11 hijackers were saudi nationals, 2 from UAE, one from Lebanon and one from Egypt. These four countries haven't been touched by the US global war on terrorism, I wonder if attacks in the middle east is all about reducing terrorism. 3 Likes 1 Share |

I do agree with most of what you wrote, I said it before as well, to say the US couldn't defeat the Taliban is silly. But i also wouldn't call the loss of over 2,400 US military personnel in Afghanistan minimal casualty, that's a lot of dead soldiers jpphilips: |

GabrielYulaw: Before the US invasion, Taliban was fully entrenched in Kabul and governing Afghanistan with shari'a law. Now they are in caves between Pakistan with Afghanistan. Bin Laden is dead, Zawahiri his deputy remains alive and he continues to issue statements from his hideout in Pakistan, but the core is defeated. Bin Laden’s son and potential heir, Hamza, who was described as "lion from the den" by Zawahiri, was killed sometime last year,he was widely seen as the emerging leader of al-Qaeda. As I've initially written, the core mission was to kill bin Laden /remove al-Qaeda /remove Taliban. All were achieved, but in time the objective shifted to stabilising Afghanistan, which resulted in the US being in this current quagmire. I will want you to note that it's possible if top al-Qaeda leadership were apprehended within weeks or months after 9/11, US forces would've withdrawn from Afghanistan, especially as the Bush administration prepared for war against Iraq. P. S. The world has never been safe before and after now, the insecurity is now closer home that's why you feel it was safer before. |

BabaOwen: Yes, despite the rot, officers were dedicated and discipline was a culture among the low ranking officers despite the fact that nepotism was rife. From the the quelling of maitatsine riot, bakassi conquest, to the peace keeping missions all over Africa, we had a military that was focus on getting result. The military of today (under the democratic dispensation) is really a far cry from what we use to have. 6 Likes |

kabe1: Defense Security Cooperation Agency NEWS RELEASE On the web: http://www.dsca.mil Media/Public Contact: pm-cpa@state.gov Transmittal No. 16-55 Government of Nigeria – A-29 Super Tucano Aircraft, Weapons, and Associated Support WASHINGTON, Aug. 3, 2017 - The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Nigeria of twelve (12) A-29 Super Tucano aircraft and weapons, including all associated training, spare parts, aviation and ground support equipment, and hangar, facilities, and infrastructure required to support the program. The estimated total case value is $593 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on August 2, 2017. https://www.dsca.mil/major-arms-sales/government-nigeria-29-super-tucano-aircraft-weapons-and-associated-support This matter has long been buried, but you have chosen to be very dishonourable and present disinformation, it is infantile to be getting emotive and calling people you do not know LIARS. But unforgivable when there is clear substantiated official records to the contrary of your opinion. This not the political section where the language is uncouth and people engage in inconsequential slanging matches to no purpose. You really with that kind of behaviour downgrade the discourse. First of all it was not just one individual but several individuals, Bidexiii, S400, and myself to name a few who all substantiated the position with reference to published state department records. You also have one of the contractors to Sierra Nevada Corp. and the specific detailed contract sum of $344 million with reference to that contractor gazetted. The total not-to-exceed amount of the UCA is approved at $344,727,439 to include a Forward Looking Infrared System for six of the aircraft. This piece is projected to be funded soon after UCA award. https://www.defense.gov/Newsroom/Contracts/Contract/Article/1700404/ The question is how many other contractors are involved in the whole package ? Because the Defense Security Cooperation Agency make reference to the whole package. You can make two analogies for clarity if you don't understand. For instance in a large construction infrastructure project you will have several contractors and maybe 1 or 2 main contractors. The DFSA refers seemingly to the whole contract package not the singular contractor Sierra Nevada that is why they have the total contract package figure of $600 million. You can compare this to a situation where you buy a new laptop for £400, it will not come with an operating system and if you are not very IT savvy. You will buy the Windows 10 , anti- virus, extended warranty, etc. that may cost you an additional £300, at the point of sale not getting the best deal, IMO. As many of you will know A laptop without the operating system and a few other accessories, is simply useless. My suspicion is that for these over priced, turbo prop A29's the USA have tied in all kinds of service agreements, weapons training, communications infrastructure, weapons, munitions, etc, etc and further bumped up the cost. But in such a way these planes will be totally non operational without continuous USA input, how wise have we been. In addition because we lacked strategic foresight, we paid upfront for something you will not see in its completion until 2024. You know you can have a legalised corporate scam (sorry market strategy manipulation), its very similar strategy that large multi national super market chains adopt with their inventories management. What would Yahoo boys would call the entity that agreed to this deal ? You have not dissuaded me from my original position, which is the total package contract sum is $600 million, I did not use condescending language to get my view across and call you a liar. Its still your prerogative to disagree or agree. 5 Likes |

bidexiii: For me the A-29 Super Tucano is a poor marketing strategy for a plane that has limited functionality but is being presented as a game changer to gullible unimportant 3rd world nations that are not considered strategic to USA interests. The term COIN is one of these buzz word used in contemporary times to address the issues of counter-insurgency strategy in war against insurgency. It means everything but nothing specifically its ambiguous and fluid. As a consequence how do you measure its success So when somebody carries a megaphone and says it is the best aircraft for fighting COIN in the world what does that mean what is the unit of measurement, historical deployment, battle records, delivery impact , etc, etc. In actual fact it means NOTHING, its just noise. But the USA have said so, then it must be true according to a few. If somebody says that the food in his Mums restaurant is the best in the city, but he never eats there, Eeeeee get as he be Will you believe him. Lets look at Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan and ask to what percentage of USA aircraft deployed over the past 5,7,10 years in these atypical COIN war settings were the A-29 Super Tucano. If you look at the % US flight hours for this the best COIN attack aircraft in the world across all locations the US has been engaged in COIN, how many flight hours has the A-29 Super Tucano in combat So how do you underpin the efficacy of an an attack aircraft without an experiential historical base line to make a deduction from. By presumption and or imagination. Second observation, the USA has allies and partners, number 1 is probably UK or Israel, and NATO in the Middle east its Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Iraq, Qatar, Pakistan, Morocco, Jordan all these countries are having issues with insurgency some to greater extent than others. They are either major partner or minor partners with the USA. Africa i really cant see a major strategic partner, or please correct me. Now considering the relationship of these major partners and or minor partners and the need for COIN attack aircraft, how many of them have procured the A-29 Super Tucano in their inventory of their air forces The answer is a very loud resounding NONE not even ONE, I wonder why So how did anybody conclude this A-29 Super Tucano is the "Creme de la creme of COIN attack fighter aircraft " This to me is an elaborate marketing ploy given to insignificant and inconsequential poor third world associates not partners. Using a Yahoo boy term please correct me if i get it wrong, "Guy man chop, Moogo fall" There is nothing to compare, one is battle tested proven, reliable, rugged ,resilient, bigger payload (triple the A29) and established with stupendous survival under fire, well over four decades, and can even run on poor grade fuel including petrol doesn't need complicated ground control avionics to get airborne. They are two totally different aircraft so its a failed comparison. But the crucial issue is we need aircraft in the NE, RIGHT NOW like yesterday not in 4 years time. If I had $100 million, we could have 12 Sukhoi Su-25 within two week operational and 24 in 4/5 weeks all turning Boko to dust, that would be a complete game changer. IMO not just my opinion, I know this war is very political and the fifth columnist are not in the rank and file of Nigerian armed forces but somewhere way higher up. my two pennies , NUFF SAID 11 Likes 2 Shares |

Toju200: Dude wake up and smell the coffee. For the purposes of Nigerian armed forces US weapons are mostly over priced and take ages to be delivered. The Mil Mi-28 night hunter is arguable better than the cobra but its about half the price as well. The MI17 Will do everything in general we need a Chinok to do but at half the price and far less operating cost, in addition its a much more resilient and rugged aircraft. komekn:You are not getting the point. He isn't arguing whether Jonathan's administration made the right decisions regarding weapons procurement or not, what we've been trying to point out is that there has been efforts to frustrate Nigeria's war against insurgency and blocking weapons procurement for no sensible reason is just an example. I myself am a fan of Russian equipments, they are far cheaper and better than their western counterparts. I don't know what those in charge of our weapons procurement are thinking for God's sake. |

Cannonleo: It is not correct, the frontal armour of a t72 will not be penetrated by a RPG7, If it has reactive armour then its simply a NO NO. As you probably know the silhouette of the T72 is very low, the effective range of a rpg7 is about 300 metres its not precision weaponry so trying to hit a moving tank in the Sahel with all the dust kicked up obscuring your vision is not that easy. Every tank has weak point trying to get isn't that easy. Now getting hit by ATGM is another matter. 4 Likes 1 Share |

rka2:Is Nigeria getting weapons to fight bokoharam or modernising it's arsenal because this is unfair to bokoharam gun trucks The only advantage this has over rpg 28 is range and accuracy. The rpg 28 has same armour penetration and significantly cheaper. It is really commendable and would help taking out technicals kilometers away. 2 Likes 1 Share |

komekn: Wanted to reply you but when I saw the full length of your comment I was scared to read it. It’s very tucked hot here in the Far north and am tired. But here are my takes; in terms of precision weaponry the Su25 does not even get close to the tucano, likewise avionics, ISR capability, cost of maintenance and its endurance time. Starting from next year the Super Tucson will be replacing a lot ground attack assets especially for the S.O.F in the Middle East The super tucano is a game changer and a beast for ground target should fear. |

ruggedtimi: 100% Correct. Can i add it is prone to getting stuck off road (prime target for rpg's), particularly the disproportionately big ones, nobody needs to tell you that are an east target, BIG & SLOW. The very reason why the USA introduced the JLTV. In the Sahel you need armoured vehicles with RWS that are nimble and fast, otherwise you cant even manoeuvre or outflank your enemy. IMO the best MRAP we have is the S.African battle tested and proven Marauder and Reva the rest look way too heavy i guess the CS/VP3 has a basic pass mark but the rest look like they are way too heavy. 6 Likes 1 Share |
