I think slimthugchime is right. The Ratel is an old design but it still works.

I agree with that and I'm certainly not saying the Ezugwu is a bad designed, just stating they don't look the same wink

Now, just one rpg hitting that vehicle and they are all gone. Watched a video of Nigerian soldiers attacking bokoharam and most of them were trying to stay behind the armored vehicles deployed, the officer with them was telling them to use natural cover instead because those armored vehicles are easy targets and if they explode?!......

Why do you think I stated this specifically The Russians were pioneers of this combo.

South Africa was the first to design and operate HMD/S that allowed for off bore attacks on its mirage F1s

However Russia are the pioneers of short ranged high off bore missiles.

However the V3A AAM was also integrated with a HMS as early as 1971

But yeah I get you point now wink

Yeah I know , the Soviets were impressed with SA innovation and found it very effective in Air combat. Credit for HMS lies with SA.

Back in the late 80s SAAF actually bought Russian AAMs to test wether they could be integrated with the F1, this was due to the delay in production of its V3C missile

What I think is, after assaulting the vehicle with insurgents, they came under fire(ambush).

They are responding and repelling the ambush.

This video suggests they are defending from an ambush.

One more question for you Sir.

Why do Russian made SU-30SM, even export models carry Thales HUD while, the SU-35, SU-57 and other Russian fighters have Russian HUDs?

I thought Russia is under sanctions from the EU?

I noticed Armenian and Belarusian SU-30SM use Thales.

Lurker4Long:

The Gazelle is registered in South Africa and belongs to the private security company Dyck Advisory Group, (DAG) based in South Africa and owned by former Zimbabwean military colonel Lionel Dyck.
Col Dyck has a long history in Mozambique, having previously helped the government fight RENAMO back in the 80s.

DAG has drployed the following air assets to Moz:
-2 Gazelle gunships;
-1 Bell UH I “Huey”;
-1 Bell 406 Long Ranger;
-1 Diamond DA42; and
-1 Cessna Caravan.

Apparently the Russian PMC Wagner has withdrawn after getting their arses kicked.
Thanks for the info.... Yes just read an article that a South African company(Dyck Advisory Group) has taken over from Wagner due to poor results.... In other words they got their asses whooped.

And I would like to clarify from my end that the idea of coupling off bore missiles with HMS is originally a SA idea . They tried with previous iterations of v3c before succeeding with v3c ( within desired performance ) .

The Russians perse should not have the credit .

What they had was a successful combo r73 and shchel 3um hmd on mig29 which got famous all across the world. Hence they get the credit albeit wrongly.

Right? especially when we have no idea what led to this, but automatically it has to be over the virus.
Watch the video, and you see the other black guys are even pleading on his behalf, saying "Please" to the attackers, if am to guess, I'd say the man was suspected of committing a crime, i mean, no one in that vid is even wearing a mask

Yes the VCA AAM was the first missile to be integrated with a HMS, however as you say Russia perfected it with the R73 and shchel hmd on the mig 29!

Let me answer in a generalized perspective

User requirements

In the case of foreign customers :

The end user after trials etc deems the Russian system not upto their requirements so they mandate an alternative foreign system.

Sometimes the end user for the sake of ensuring commonality across different platforms in their fleet opts for common systems to cut down costs , training headache , maintenance hassle etc

In the case of OEM themselves
It's simple because it means their own system ain't at par or not available so they opted for foreign one.

As to ur specific question

Russian offers their customers the option of customisation as per their needs. Eg IAF uses Israeli HUD on su30mki due to possible reasons I mentioned above.

Afaik Russians use own hud on their own aircrafts. I could be wrong though.

The general public feeds on information which is fed to them . Nothing ain't that simple . We don't know doesn't mean that it is not happening.

Sanctions mean nothing if a said country is not serious about it .

USA might have beef with Russia but that doesn't mean all European countries have a bone to pick with Russia but nevertheless have to support the sanctions due to geopolitical obligations.
EU is a conglomerate of nations representing common interests but some nations might not deem it to be in their national interest to break all bridges with Russia. They would want some leverage with Russia and so they " help " russia wherever possible within being too overt about it and without explicitly compromising the EU stand.

Eg all modern T series tanks have french supplied thermal imagers . Supplies for maintenance etc r still continuing without raising too many eyebrows. Ironically the same T series tanks will form the bulkwark of the Russian armoured thrust if they decide to invade Europe grin

National interests triumphs all international obligations
