it will take close to 10 years for the NN to be up to the Algerian Navy and at that point the Algerian Navy would have gone far ahead

I don't think it's accurate to compare the Nigerian Navy to Algeria. Algeria has a big Defence Budget of 11 billion dollars a year.

Nigeria Defence budget is always at 2.2 billion dollars, at most 3.3 billion dollars.

As you can see, no room for comparison.

I don't think any of the defence manufacturers in Nigeria can do that. Besides it would be an overkill.

The 30mm is the most acceptable and widely used caliber gun in use.

Nonetheless the Russians have started to use 57mm guns on some of their Infantry support vehicles.

For educational purposes see attached video.

okkm...I thought since we can mount the 57mm on the SDB3 we should be able to mount something like the 30mm automatic cannon you mentioned..

We don't make enough money. Military spending is not a walk in the park. There could be other budgetary means but until then, we'll have to make the maximum use of our resources.

With our current capacity, the procurements made by the 3 services have been sensible.

However we really need funds.

a country with a population of 200 million +
no 1 economy in Africa
nahhhhhh it's not enough
buh with the little we have must admit we are making progress..
I would suggest becoming closer with China or Russia military wise preferably Russia..
something like Egypt relationship with the US getting more than 1 billion for their military every year from the Us

The threats range of Nigeria, present, future, in the ages to come will never need us to arm like Algeria.

I recall the first time myself and my sibling watched "24". I remember saying, "Thank God Nigeria is not having terrorism problems like USA." Few years later Boko Haram issue became full blown, worse than what Jack Bauer had to deal with in "24". Very few people saw that coming.

The only thing that is constant in life is change. We can't predict the future threat Nigeria will be facing which is why we need to prepare for all eventualities.

FieldMarshall06:

People no dey believe say some people dey wey know pass them. I myself have good knowledge of missile systems.

Moving target does not matter bro. It depends on the missile. That guy said repeatedly ''Fire & Forget missile''. Those are advanced missiles that have inbuilt radars. When they approach the preset vicinity, their inbuilt radar activates, tracks the newest position of the ship, and thrusts for impact just below the waterline.

Radars are different types and categories. Most anti-ship missiles have an ''approach tracking mechanism'' different from the original source that fired the missile. So, the original preset coordinates only takes it to the vicinity of the target, but the missile's tracking system locks on to the target's newest position for final impact.

Anti-ship missiles may use inbuilt radars and high explosive warhead; anti-aircraft missiles may use inbuilt radars and fragmentation warheads that explodes fragments around the plane to increases the chances of destroying the moving plane. Some missiles are heat seeking, radiation seeking, etc. That is, the missile's inbuilt systems use the heat or radiation from the target to track it.

So, moving targets don't matter. Missiles are not rockets. They are designed for moving targets; and they have inbuilt systems that finds a property of the moving target, locks on to it and follows it to impact. That is why missiles pursue fighter jets to hell. The pilot does all the manoeuvres, yet the missile is still following. That is because the inbuilt system has locked onto something from the jet- maybe exhaust heat, radiation, signals- anything. So your moving target at sea don't hold water. And forget this matter abeg.

Satisfy yourself that the guy @fineman87 know pass you. He was a top shop on Beegeagle's blog too. I know that.
you mentioned preset guidance but you seem to be talking about homing. do some research on the accurate names. you're on the wrong side. preset missiles cannot change trajectory

No, you do not understand. I thought about it myself.

If you follow his earlier posts @fineman87 was talking about ''manual input'' of data into missiles. He wasn't specifically talking about ''preset missiles''. Preset missiles are different from guided missiles. He used preset to mean ''manual input'' in a guided missile. So both of you are correct, but you need to follow his posts well to understand. ... there's a lot to learn, interesting.

One of the unintended benefits of the insurgency in Nigeria is that it has allowed Nigeria grow to become a significant defence manufacturer in Africa, the 2nd largest in Sub-saharan Africa, and the 3rd largest in Africa behind South-Africa and Egypt.

It's a thing of joy when you read internationally recognized defence news outlets like Jane's Defence, Airforce Monthly and they refer to a military equipment as Nigerian made or Nigerian exported.

I swear, e dey sweet for body!! grin grin

The economics side of building your defence equipment locally is almost immeasurable. Jobs, cost savings, technology transfer.

Look across the board, you'll see the remarkable design progress Nigerian made military equipments have made. From Tekowi Vehicle, Igirigi APC, Proforce MRAP and LAV, bulletproof vests made in Nigeria, UAVs made in Nigeria and so on and so forth. In fact I never imagined a day will come that I'll get exhausted from calling Nigerian made military equipments. Wow!!! grin grin

With this new ship, we can already see the future, what a future Nigerian made OPV would look like. We would soon be able to sail in rough seas and high winds in a Nigerian made naval ship.

I pray that after this BokoHarem nonsense is dealt with Nigeria doesn't mothball its indigenous defense industry. I want to see a Nigerian made Main Battle tank.

It can be called "SHANGO 1"

Now you see why NA no get working radios when BH started( According to reports), simple radios, they left everything to rot, because there was no threat? Only to get caught pants down when BH started.
One must not wait for threats to present itself, prepare for it.
US have military strategy for the UK and literally every country that matters, yet they are still allies, doesn't mean they don't have plans for a potential future conflict with that same ally
