The reason I usually don't engage in the who is the better player comparisons/arguments is because both players being compared are usually very good players and the people arguing present personal opinions to undermine the opponents good player of which there isn't a mutually accepted judge so after the numerous back and forth, nobody accepts the others opinions and it just abruptly ends only for it to resume much later. so tiring.

By the time Messi came along, we had seen R9, Henry, Kaka, Dinho perform such actions on a regular basis.

Messi has been a top 2 player for 11 years. Top 3 for 12.

I know there's an argument that Ronaldo suffered game changing injuries, which I can accept.

But when you look at the sheer number of goals Messi has scored, even injury can't account for it.

Ronaldo's peak was at Barcelona where he scored 47 goals in all competitions. Messi has matched that once, and beaten it six times.

No amount of training can help you score 73 goals in a single season.

The post meant Messi dribbling ability not same style of execution. Just because Messi has more ball control in tight spaces doesn't mean he is a better dribbler. Messi has better control of the ball, Ronaldo has the speed advantage and his physical strength to bully defenders. On a break away face to face with two defenders Ronaldo for me but in the middle of the field surrounded by 3 players then Messi. I will still rate Ronaldo dribbling ability above his.

He sometimes played as a 9 but he mostly played as a false 9 dropping into he space between midfield and defense of the opposition

Occasionally he even played off Sanchez that Guardiola mostly deployed as a 9. For example against Chelsea in the second leg, Sanchez was the No 9 while Messi played in the hole behind him

Check his assists from midfield that season and come back and tell me he was a poacher...
