Nigeria doesn't need a navy with all these plenty admirals stealing money left right and center, chancing civilians up and down. All Nigeria needs is a coast guard, or a marine arm of the regular police. We don't need an air force either. |

Cutealexio:what kind of agreement do we have with our neighbours and provide links to how we rescued foreigners from pirates when there is enormous pirate activities going on in our waters? i do not think Aradu is too old. there are ships still in service in the US and Russian Navies that are over 50 years old. ships do not become obsolete. and china cannot be the second best navy in the world. not even in their neighbourhood can they be compared to the Japanese Navy or even the south Korean Navy. |

Usorohtheman:that's untrue! there is nothing they are doing which is too huge, if you understand the nature of the human being and the universe. the reason we have not been able to do much is because we do not encourage philosophical inquiry. out of the box thinking is culturally discourage. when i ask you how the human being came into existence, you will probably say Adam and Eve. when evolution is presented to you, you will be the first to denounce it (of course, i do not mean you in particular). the understanding of evolution and coming to truly see it as how man and all life forms came about can really be a true door opener and a game changer! also, quantum mechanics and relativity among other scientific and social scientific ideas; when they are understood not just as academic ideas learnt in school, but as the description of reality itself, then a new portal will open up in the mind of such individual. he not only become aware of enormous possibilities, he also become equiped with all the cognitive, psychomotor and affective skills to bring about something culturally revolutional 1 Like |

Re: Flagship, NNS Aradu Undergoes Repairs At The Naval Dockyard Lagos by Cutealexio(m): 3:39pm On May 20, 2020 |
Aradu is really old, the weapon systems has become obsolete. The only solution to it will probably be stripping it off its navigation and weapon systems into skeleton in other to reinstall modern ones but that will be as good as buying a new frigate The Nigerian Navy nicknamed it ministry of works because there's always one problem to fix. The agreement signed by Japan after they surrendered to the US was that their armed forces will only maintain defensive roles, they can't buy a lot of weapons even if they want to. How can you say South Korean Navy is better than Chinese Navy? How many Nuclear submarine do they have? How many aircraft carriers do they have? Chinese Navy is the best in Asia and second best in the world...Do your research MiddleDimension: |

@S400 and @jln115 what do you both think about this ship? and how do you both rate the NN? |
Re: Flagship, NNS Aradu Undergoes Repairs At The Naval Dockyard Lagos by fashrola(m): 4:27pm On May 20, 2020 |
subcbouy: Dockyard can be used interchangeably with Shipyard depending on the activities to be carried out... It can be expanded to accommodate the type of vessels to be built, WAS Onne can build a vessel of more than 3000 GRT if need be so you call that a dockyard? They have built fiberglass patrol boats, RHIB boats, Surfers etc Total FPSO was choose to be built in South Korea due to availability of man-power, materials, expertise etc |
Re: Flagship, NNS Aradu Undergoes Repairs At The Naval Dockyard Lagos by Nobody: 4:40pm On May 20, 2020 |
MiddleDimension:The Meko 360 is a great platform and personally I've always advocated that NNS Aradu be refitted, instead of buying a new Frigate.......However te seems she has been neglected to long and thus is to obsolete to function as a Frigate, and would now rather be used as a training and patrol vessel at this stage. As for the NN imo its by far the strongest Navy in WA, however as with 90% of African Navies it isn't a true blue water navy and lacks anti ship and anti sub capability..............However this isn't saying that the Nigerian navy isn't as efficient in fulfilling its mandate or as professional as blue water navies IMO this would be my Ranking of African Navies: 1. Egypt 2. Algeria 3. South Africa 4. Morocco ( only because SA has Submarines otherwise they would be 3rd) 5. Nigeria 3 Likes |

Re: Flagship, NNS Aradu Undergoes Repairs At The Naval Dockyard Lagos by Nobody: 5:32pm On May 20, 2020 |
GamalNasser:Its both a Frigate and a Destroyer....it all depends on the parameters a country uses to classify their ships.....the NN classifies it as a Frigate and the Argentinian navy classifies it as a destroyer. But in today's terms there isn't really major difference between Destroyers and Frigates! |
Re: Flagship, NNS Aradu Undergoes Repairs At The Naval Dockyard Lagos by GamalNasser: 5:49pm On May 20, 2020 |
jln115: Why is the Argentine Navy classifying NNS Aradu a purpose built frigate as a destroyer ? Oga Destroyers are larger and faster than frigates even though the may both perform the same task of battle group escort And shielding frigates usually accepted size is 130 meters long while Destroyers start at 170 meters in hull length ..they are not the same |

ProfAmaben: Even if I don't care about anything Nigeria as at now, I can still say, they're having over 15 vessels on water, d last time I check, the navy were having NNS over 15 and they've acquired more.. It was the Air force section that was lacking equipments, but now they're being equipped yearly.. Just dat, I expect advanced equipments evn if not d latest, due to price, but near the modern ones.. |

fashrola:Funny you! why no man-power, materials and expertise? when I did say initially that we have no naval architecture and you are arguing with me. But saying it was chosen is ridiculous thought. Did you know billions lost to Korean for this project? bro, we don't have ship building yard, simple. |
Re: Flagship, NNS Aradu Undergoes Repairs At The Naval Dockyard Lagos by Nobody: 8:28pm On May 20, 2020 |
GamalNasser:what? No bro the Argentinian Navy also operate the Meko 360 which is what the NNS Aradu is....but in Argentina they are called Almirante Brown class destroyer Secondly Destroyerers are not faster in actual fact they slower... Also classification is different from country to country however traditionally classification was based of tonnage and armament not length. However in modern times weapon systems are getting smaller and more efficient hence why ships are getting smaller... This is the reason why we don't see Cruisers and Battleships anymore as they are basically obsolete. Just to give you an example of how well armed Frigates are today: MEKO 200 Frigate(operated by the Algerian and SA has 16ASMs, 32SAMs, 127mm/76mm gun and 2x triple torpedo tubes.... They are basically just as well armed as any Destroyer like the Hobert class or F125 class. Also modern destroyers very rarely have a length of 160m... I would say on average modern day destroyers are around 150m 1 Like |
