And those 16.5% were being sold at 18-19% discount rates, making gains of millions of naira already the day you bought it...

Now FGN Bonds market is bullish to old investors......but guys are still not selling due to the ridiculous prices smart guys bought them may not come easily again, so na to de chop 6 montuly coupons till 2037, 2049 and 2050
Between 2015 and 2018, I concentrated on fgn bonds between 16.5 and 15.54%. throwing the coupons into TB until the crash of TB, until the last 11.2% sukuk.

The fact is I still feel bad because even when coupons are paid today, it's either I keep them in mutual funds waiting for a kill that is not easily come by or I invest in the stocks market. Stock market has started the roller coaster that I dread alot. Best time this year to have invested in stocks was in March/April. Men don cash out and boys just dey enter.

I know it's all a passing phase. Rates will find their way northwards again. When? Hard to tell because Nigeria economy indices does not follow standard pattern. Look at inflation rate. Look at MPC rate. Then look at interest rate. I can't understand. It's more like kalo kalo.

N10 million at an annual growth rate of 10% will grow to N26 million in 10 years due to compound interest.
Compound interest in the 8th wonder of the world.

Due to this lockdown and closure of schools, my kids schools started doing online schooling. The lesson notes are uploaded into the school portal which is accessible to both students and parents. I was always downloading them and going through. On a particular week lesson notes, i opened the Mathematics notes and saw the topic 'Mathematics of Finance'. Going through it, i saw compound interest as the topic to be taught. On getting home, i asked my son if he understood the topic and he said yes. I told him that he should ensure that he masters that topic very well as that topic is one of the secrets of becoming a millionaire or billionaire when he starts working. I also told him to go to google, search for the formula and put in some figures like 20k monthly at 5% for 20 years. He came back shocked at the amount. cool

Your doing well Sir.

I used my coupons in April to buy Zenith and UBA at N11 & N4.4...look at the dividend yields

Am still buying both equities currently as prices are still good for me as dividend investor.

When NTB and bonds rates become good again, we move in again.

We just need to be flexible all times

Same here, TB gave a better return never thought of buying 20 years bond at 16% and diversify the returns.

Well, to be fair, long term investments can be a bit uncertain particularly because of the forex issues we have from time to time. Maybe that's the reason some folks held back. The first Sukuk was issued in 2017 at around 17% in the same year that the exchange rate hit 520. It was too close for investors to have forgotten so quickly

You will reinvest your coupon into other asset classes which will give better cash flow yield and stability.

Lol. It was simply called simple/compound interest in primary and secondary school. Maybe they should change the name to mathematics of making money to get people interested.

Most of those digital agriculture are ponzi scheme in disguise.
Anyone who has been into practical agriculture in Nigeria will know tha the returns they are promising are not realistic and not sustainable.

As for forex, if he can trade himself, good but if it is about giving money to some group of people claiming to be experts in forex trading, I will say no.

Well summarised, couldn’t have said it better myself.

The name digital agriculture alone look like scam to me very unreal .....if we want to dp agric let cultivate 1 hectar of rice for x amounts, harvest x amounts of rice , mill and purity and make sale ....remove cost of production of the rice from sale to get profit ....if its 30 percents r.o.i then a firm can issue profits of 12 percenct to investors .....but any thing can happen ...flood ,pest , drop in price ,earthquacks etc ....so return is not guaranteed unless insured ....
