Personally I got interested in basketball in my teenage years all thanks to the fact that being active in one sport or the others could exempt you from several parades,punishment and rigorous military activity back then and it was an avenue to visit different schools during inter-house as it was a boarding achool.so We found solace in basketball which was less competitive like Football we were used to earlier before then.mine has nothing to with that stereotypical view.
