OP, how is the quest for the federal government to position the country among the automobile manufacturers in Africa is yielding positive results in this case? Is the company owned by the federal govt? How much did BOI contribute towards the operation? It was the guy who raised his funds by himself to set up the plant and not the Fed govt who keeps discouraging such great moves with their harsh policies, insecurity and ineptitude. How many investors had the fed govt drawn to Nigeria in the last 5 years? Left to the fed govt activities, nobody wouod come to Nigeria to invest kobo. The duty of every sensible govt is to create enabling environment for businesses to thrive and this isn't happening in this govt.

This is a welcome development in many areas, but if INNOSON is from the north I doubt if they will allow any competitor to set in, the FG would hv bound d importation of cars since.

Far from tribalism am just stating the obvious

But innoson is a one man business. I think Dangote group have some stakeholders in government. Besides, why do people say Dangote enjoys monopoly? I mean there is BUA and the rest competing with them

The day I saw the back of this beatiful truck, I instantly knew it was a CKD unit from one of the numerous chinese auto manufacturers, very similar to Innoson.

It is a rebadged Huanghai N3A chinese truck, not manufactured in Nigeria.

Takes nothing away from the truck though. We all have to start from somewhere.

like innoson like Nord.

So we will surely get there by importing car parts manufactured overseas, possibly in China and then assemble and couple in Nigeria. Is that how to get there?? Don't you know it's almost akin to importing the finished product. Still Same shit different paper.

And please, spell divide properly.
you have a point but rome wasn't built in a day. Just so you know, there's no automobile manufacturer in the world who manufacture up to 30% of their automobile parts, including the popular brands. They mainly design while parts come from independent companies who also manufacture for other automobile companies. What they do nowadays is assemble. Be that as it may, the Federal government should speed up the process of ajaokuta steel take off. Once this is done, not only would the number of automobile manufacturers increase, Nigeria would also manifacture automobile parts for export. But we don't have a sensible govt in place yet. Successive governments have come, touched ajaokuta steel, embezzled money from same and gone. Buhari is also doing same now.

This statement is false!

Innoson imports vehicle engines but mould the carcass. Innoson's cars are about 75% local content.

Dude, Innoson is fronting Chinese product forget all the media lies and hype.

Innoson is totally foreign owned brand. He is reassembling Chinese cars and presenting them as Nigeria made.

Below is Chinese Forum where they were talking about it. He is assembling Chinese cars all through and calling it Nigeria brand. He is importing them in units by evading importing duties and reselling them to the Nigeria government.

The Chinese will soon take over Innoson car because they own a huge stake in it.

Go to the website and read. Innoson is a scammer!

Na wa for you, is it that you're not smart enough to decipher that the guy you quoted is a typical bigot afonja??
You're fast in joining others to castigate Igbos yet you lack objectivity to do so.

These same guys you're supporting are the ones that always criticize Innoson unnecessarily.

Nord shouldn't and can't be compared to Innoson yet except for mischief. They only import parts and body 100% in CKD containers and recouple them. However, Innoson manufactures most of its parts in Nigeria and buys others from local manufacturers in Nnewi but imports its engines. Innoson is the type of industry that can effectively grow Nigeria through massive job creation, forex earnings, technology transfer etc.

What Nord is doing is no different from what the likes of Coscharis, Elizade and Chagoury are doing i.e. selling another company's products that were wholly manufactured abroad. The only thing is that while these ones import their cars in full body while Nord imports its own in CKD thus they offer no value to Nigeria in real terms.

Ndi iberibe ana akogheri.

To be realistic, there is nothing to celebrate here, at least not yet. Anybody with cash and a little connection can actually do this.

If you holistically look at what these Nord guys are doing, you will discover that these guys are probably a front for some politicians who want to corner some deals.

Ask yourself, why would a company that just came up yesterday, be buying another massive acres of land when they are yet to understand the industry?

These guys are obviously in this for importation reasons.

Let's wait and see what happens in say five to ten years time.

Good one. But it was made in Nigeria. It was assembled and rebadged to NORD.

Nigeria should make INNOSON the official vehicle of public office holders and see how far we will go.
And what will now happen to other investors in the automobile industry? If you were the owner of Nord, would you honestly be happy with this your suggestion?

that SUV is cool, but does it meet safety regulations as Yoruba people asked during innoson?

would the engine not fall off ( as they asked
Then find out before rubbishing this awesome work
Benz, BMW, Toyota, Honda, etc started out with defects but improved over time, NORD will get better with time too; he just needs support

I love it but I prefer innoson. NORD is a copied Chinese vehicle while innoson is a brand on its own.

Nord and Innosson are both Chinese CKD's.

But it is a right step in getting to the first wholly Nigerian designed and built car

You're right bro. We need healthy competition and Innoson has a lot of niche. We hope and wish NORD could come up with more niches.

I hate the aspect we tribalize every great development. We should learn to accept and respect every good development from any corner of the country.
