High debt because of provision of high cost of governance with the largest MDAs next to FG MDAs and Infrastructure provision to sustain human congestion.

Lagos is not the highest revenue earner from FAAC. Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta all earn more than triple of what is allocated to Lagos. The success of Lagos in internal revenue generation is as a result of the effort of previous state governors starting from Bola Tinubu in 1999. The IGR of Lagos wasn’t so much different from what Delta, Rivers, Kano etc we’re generating in 1999.

So, why is it so difficult for other state to achieve the kind of success successive governments in Lagos had recorded since 1999? The answer is clear: quality leadership. You don’t have to agree but the result is out there.

Ask yourself why states like California, Texas, New York, Florida and Illinois are doing good in the USA? Simply because they got more money.

Its not necessarily because they have the best administration, but their financial capacity enables them to do better than other states in many things.

In answer, Lagos is indeed a small country within Nigeria that is even richer than many countries. with the money available to Lagos state from IGR, Lagos shouldn’t be where it is. Indeed Lagos is steadily decaying, needs a great deal of urban renewal & infrastructure projects.

It is pertinent that Lagos saves itself from the stranglehold of the yellow toothed drug baron.
