this is the truth, but Nigerian don't like learning new things, they still believe in impossibilities, and this SAN is trying to open our eyes into the provisions we should really claim for ourselves as established in the 1999 CFRN, yet some people that are chanced to be on this platform to learn and be enlightened about these things so that they can teach the people that don't have such opportunity are the ones criticizing what they should be welcoming with appreciation, change starts from here my people, let us learn from little things before we start aiming at the ones that are very much far from us
What is the primary responsibility of the govt, security, welfare of its citizens.

This man is the master of double speak. Ever since he became a Federal Minister it's been one stupid thing or another coming out of the hole he calls a mouth.

Now Mr Fashola wants us to seek results from LGs, please help ask him which LG? Is it the same LG whose chairmen are mere stooges of sitting governors, whose budgets are determined by the state government, whose accounts are merged with the state government, is it that same LG?

The constitution is clear on what the role of the various tiers of government is, and people are not out of touch with reality when they demand that there be security, constant power supply, good roads, good hospitals, good education institutions and overall a thriving economy that enables job creation. With the way Nigeria is structured today, no one in their right minds would think these things can be done by the local and state government alone when the federal government controls just about everything. Agreed the local and state government have their roles to play and have failed as well but if we look at the Federal Government (not just this one, everyone we have had since the 70s) and judge them by comparing the resources they have had at their disposal to the results on ground, they have failed woefully and they keep failing to this day. Now the government is made up of people, both the people at leadership and the ones who voted them in, so by extension we have all failed one way or another but the main blame must goto leadership.

And I am sure if we decide to ask Mr Fashola what he thinks about restructuring which is in my view the real solution out of this mess, he will come up with some bull dung excuse about how water don hang for him teeth. Let us keep postponing the inevitable and keep lying on everything else rather than taking responsibility for ourselves.

This is not so far from the truth but you see Nigerians, we never take time to read through things.

There's only so much the Federal Government can do and without an effective State and Local Government it would all amount to nothing.

No matter how powerful your car engine is there are other factors that determine how fast it can go.
You can't have a lot of useless weight pulling it down and have it run on flat tyres and yet expect it to reach its full potential.

Nigerians can throw a fit and don't know how to react rationally.

Fashola just said the truth really but Nigerians take pride in being antagonistic and they love the Deja vu; I guess there is a thrill to it embedded in us.

Basic amenities like that are to be covered by the State Government. The FG can't be everywhere and they embark on projects that take years to accomplish: rails, roads, ports etc.

Nigeria has so much challenges that a government can achieve so little in eight years, especially with corruption so endemic and institutionalized.

Listen(sic), before you mention. You would keep moaning and groaning and wailing for eight years of Buhari and then the next government and then the next, until you realise the fundamental details of governance and hold them sensibly to it, devoid of emotions or sentiments or prejudice.

I feel a need to reemphasize. This is NOT about APC/ Buhari or what no. I am feeling the burning effects of the economic downturn but I am grateful to God for the ability to detach emotion for rationality.
He has not said anything reasonable sir. First and foremost, the unseriousness and insincerity of the present day government are a cog in the wheel of the state governments to perform optimally.
That aside, what Nigerians are clamouring for goes beyond what Fashola was saying. The satanic hike in prices of fuel, electricity and food stuffs is the major pain and agony of Nigerians which this useless federal government intentionally brought upon us when ordinarily a reasonable government should begin to provide something palliative for Nigerians to cushion the effect of their lackadaisically invited Covid19 endemic.
Before these people got to power, they already knew our problems and promised to take us off the wood in no distant time. They said they were going to equate dollar and naira, make our epileptic power stable, transform our economy and a host of other promises. Now that they can't do even one out of their countless promises, they have resolved to blame games to cover their inefficiencies.
This government is simply a calamitous mistake for us and whoever that had hands in bringing it to power.

Yeah. And somebody somewhere would step in and oppose the next government and the cycle continue for decades. You get?

I'm not saying Fashola is accountable or anything but is he telling the truth or should we throw away the baby and the bathwater? Just because he lacks accountability does that negate what he said?

So, I am saying he is right and let's not argue ad hominem, devoid of reason.

What sort of baby with bathwater are you talking about, if they know they can't handle criticism the way they dish it out to others, then they shouldn't immerse themselves in such enterprise. in local parlance "if na we eeh, we for don finish this problem" so wetin come happen, this one don turn to rocket science" allow fashola
and his ilks walk there talk, and allow us to admonish them, at least half as much as they admonished the previous administration, that way, only those who has solution to our problems will dare to ask for governance.

I’ve said it on here before, the most important person to a Nigerian in government is not Buhari. It’s the local government chairperson.

But Nigerians prefer to bash head on Aso rock.

2. How far has this administration pursued the devolution of powers to states?

3. Who is in charge of security, power and other major sectors. (See the Exclusive and Residual list for this).

Governor Fasola is right.

Please tell your fellow politicians in the executive and in the assembly to follow suit and execute devolution of power immediately.

Stop enacting laws centrally.

Dissolve and cancel federal house of reps.

Let states collect and use VAT.

Allocate 80% of federal revenue to states and local government.

Turn Aso Rock into a teaching hospital.

Move the presidential lodge to a house not bigger than 10 Downing street.

Scrap all unnecessary federal offices.

If the FG will allow State governments to exploit their natural resources and only remit a little fraction to Abuja then we can begin to blame the state governments for corruption and stagnation and poverty and underdevelopement.

For instance, Lagos State generates billions in taxes everyday and most of it goes to Abuja to redistribute to redundant states, which always rely on Abuja for everything.

What about the proceeds from oil? ...

do you even know your LGA monthly allocation?

It doesn't matter - they can use it well.... many countries do well with poor resources. Lack of money is not an excuse - we can at least start by getting Nigerians in the lga to obey simple rules like not littering - at least that doesn't cost much money.... I won't enter an argument.

What baffles me about Nigerians is folks that reason like you - a very negative people.

There are many things that can be done at the LGA level that don't require much funding.... if every lga in Nigeria decides to build a well run mini hospital healthcare in Nigeria would have grown exponentially with 6-12 months.... we can all generate excuses or think more critically. Do you know that lga performance can even shame FG into performance?? There was a time Lagos State Government recently outperformed FG and FG stepped up.

I'm not criticising you you have made valid points and I respect your points.

We are looking for solutions from the wrong government.
Let them allow LGA to be autonomous and financially independent, then, we will face our LGA. For now, Federal Government and the governor's share our common patrimony between themselves and should be responsible for the rot they have created over the years.

I am very sure that this dishonest governor never allowed LGAs to be financially independent when he was the governor of Lagos State.

assuming you gave your wife money to buy Christmas clothes for the kids, instead of obeying you, she used the money to buy Brazilian weavon.

who will the kids hold accountable.
how will the kids know the money is already with mummy
if the kids complain mummy will direct them to daddy.

the kids cannot rebel for too long.

it's the same with the government, who should they hold responsible

Thank you very much for this analogy.
The people are holding the federal government because they expect it to put mechanisms in place that will ensure that state and local governments deliver gains to the people.
