It's unfortunate with have to get news of attacks and causality figures from Amaq, even making an effort on damage control from top brass would make a hell of an effort |

Is there any rule of engagement that prohibits Armed soldiers from shooting a threat like a protester holding the Nigerian flag?

lebuhsi:Honestly, we may lose many more if the Army insist on going ahead with the operation in this season without providing MRAPs and APCs for all soldiers involved. The vegetation is so high that you won't detect an ambush right in front of you. Sadly SOS expressed his fears about this just few days ago. Check his Instagram page to see how thick and high the vegetation is. We just want to keep on doing things the same way and expecting different results. Sadly this stupidity costs the lives of heroes. Not even a scout helicopter to scout ahead of the column. And to think the offensive hasn't even started 18 Likes |

Whyem15: A cataclysmic combination, mud, soft skins, No NVGs, no vests, limited CAS, I thought they would wait for the dry season, while the airforce continues to apply pressure If Dry season comes late, we have from December to May for an all out campaign with added advantage To be honest, I hope for the best, but i fear the worst 6 Likes |

remi1444: Lol, depends on the scenario ooo, if bht holds the flag, i will double tap him, if it protesters and i know there's no stampede scare, i will gas them, not into the crowd, just some meters as a warning, if the crowd is much and none violent, i will handover my firearm, keep my knife in a ready to reach position and use a public address system to address them and appeal, even beg them... if this doesn't work, tear gas, and full magazine into the air. 1 Like |

Let's try this again: All these deadly ambushes are a logical consequence of the "Super Camp Strategy". Here's why: 1) Super Camps naturally lead to giving up ground to the enemy; "what you do not patrol, you do not control". 2) Troops garrisoned in Super Camps have more ground to cover in their patrols; making them more vulnerable to ambushes. 3) The enemy has all the time in the world to build a better intelligence picture to mount its ambushes. 4) The longer distances covered by patrols means more stress on logistics; this creates a vicious cycle as the NA ostensibly gave up its FOBs because of logs challenges. 5) More of the civilian population is left at the mercy of the enemy; more taxes, more witting and unwitting recruits, more supplies and resources etc. Conclusion: All of this could've been avoided. Better constructed, better defended and better supplied FOBs. Super Camps (located on Sector HQs) could have been used to support say 5 FOBs. 19 Likes 2 Shares |

The Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has neutralized several Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements and destroyed their hideouts at Tudun Wulgo and Tumbun Gini on the fringes of Lake Chad in Borno State. This was achieved through air strikes executed yesterday, 15 October 2020, as part of a new subsidiary Operation, tagged “WUTAR TABKI”, after series of aerial surveillance missions had indicated that the 2 locations, with structures and logistics items camouflaged under the dense vegetation, were being used as staging areas where some ISWAP leaders and their fighters meet to plan and launch attacks. Accordingly, the Air Task Force dispatched a force package of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets and helicopter gunships to engage the 2 locations. The attack aircraft scored devastating hits in the target areas, destroying some structures and neutralizing several of the terrorists. Lurker4Long: Very very true. But the army will eventually develop a strategy to counter the ambushes. It is a painful learning curve which would eventually help reform the army's doctrine. |

The Airforce should just hold on for now and conduct a joint massive operation with the Nigeria Army. Bombings without mop up operations will remain just a scratch on this Insurgents. We need to have boots on ground to send these guys to their creators in high numbers. We need a joint operation fast in Northern Borno. 2 Likes |

How a person go dey compare what happened in Baga with the battle of Abas Ghar just dey funny Four Naval Special Warfare Development Group personnel, tasked for surveillance and reconnaissance of a Taliban group, fell into an ambush by the talibans few hours after inserting into the area. Baga town, that has not just army personnel alone, they also have navy personnel stationed there with all the weapons they need. They were well armed. ISWAP took the battle to the military personnel in Baga, our military personnel fled and abandoned all their weapons. ISWAP took over the whole baga, while the military was lying to us that baga is still under the control of the military, till ISWAP started showing us videos and pictures. Even on this thread, someone was still arguing baga has not been taken over There is no way anybody can spin it, they are two different scenarios that have nothing in common. The Baga situation can be compared with the battle of Wanat. 4 Likes |

The Nigerian Army says it is set to start its annual exercise “Crocodile Smile” to identify, track and counter negative propaganda in the social media and across the cyberspace. In a statement, Musa Sagir, army spokesman, said the exercise will begin across the nation from Tuesday. “This year’s Exercise CROCODILE SMILE V1 is scheduled to commence from the 20th of October to the 31st of December 2020,” Sagir said in a statement. “The Exercise is deliberately intended to be all encompassing to include cyber warfare exercises designed to identify, track and counter negative propaganda in the social media and across the cyberspace. “This is the first ever Cyberwarfare exercise to be conducted in the history of the African Armed Forces. Accordingly, the exercise will also include positive identification component aimed at identifying Boko Haram terrorists fleeing from the North East and other parts of the country as a result of the ongoing operations in the various theatres of operations especially in the Northeast, North Central and North Western parts of Nigeria. “The Nigerian Army, once again, reassures all well meaning Nigerians of its commitment to the sustenance of peace and security in Nigeria and urges members of the public for their support and understanding throughout the period of the exercise.” THE CABLE 1 Like |
