Numbers in the Catholic chuches' main area of Europe and the US are dwindling.To the point that churches are empty . This is just a commment to attract the European and North Americans back to the Church by potraying it as being more in tune with gay rights so to speak.

The same proccess is happening in most other orthodox denominations like the Anglicans who already allow openly gay priests.

Meanwhile their members in the developing world are watching events closely and are not vvery pleased.

Ulitmately, the problem is a division between developed and developing world christians over 'what costituites the christian faith'


Also, Pope Francis, long before he became the Pope spoke like that....support civil unions for gay people while opposing gay marriage (two legally different terms by the way). He was quite promient in opposing gay marriage in Argentina his home country when he was just cardinal bergoglio.
