EndSARS: Dear Nigerians your feelings of frustration are justified, we are sorry~Prof Yemi Osibanjo Vice President Yemi Osibanjo has empatized with Nigerians over the frustration they go through in the hands of unprofessional Police personnel across the federation and the economic hardship faced by citizens. Professor Osibanjo in a tweet said, "dear Nigerians, I know that many of you are angry, and understandably so. We could’ve moved faster and for this we are sorry. "I fully understand how many young people feel. Many feel that we have been too silent and have simply not done enough. These feelings of frustration are justified. The Vice President who acknowledged too much brutality from men of the force, said Government henceforth will take responsibility in protecting citizens. "There are far too many people who have been brutalised at the hands of the police and this is unacceptable. We must take responsibility for protecting young people, even sometimes from those who are paid to protect them. "Over the past week, we have been following the protests, and I have had a number of discussions with key people in the administration that you deserve to be informed about. Transparency, after all, is a key tenet of government". He said Several meetings have been held with: the Senate President Lawan, Speaker House Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Chairman of the Police Service Commission, the Inspector General of Police, the Executive Secretary of National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria and governors of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory FCT. "We understand that you want to see action from us and I’m here to tell you that work is ongoing. I chaired a meeting of 36 state governors and the Minister of the FCT (NEC), where we resolved to set up judicial panels of inquiry so we can see justice served, and fast. "The reason being that only state governors, by law, can set up judicial inquiries in their states. The hearings will be public. "With Mr. President’s approval, SARS has been completely disestablished, and none of its former members will feature in any police tactical units", he noted. Professor Osibanjo further condoled with families of victims of Police extra-judicial killings and abuses. "I am sending my deepest condolences to the families of Jimoh Isiaq, and all those who have lost their lives at the hands of wayward police officers. To those injured, I wish a full and speedy recovery. "We have proposed that each state government set up a Victims’ Support Fund, which the Nigeria Government will support. This is the least that we can do to compensate for the injustice suffered at the hands of errant officers", he said. Vice President Yemi Osibanjo further hinted that the Government has began the process of Police Reformation. He said, "We also understand that the issues that you’re raising are bigger than just SARS. They’re deep and systemic and we’re undertaking comprehensive measures that will revamp the police by addressing issues of welfare, service conditions and training. "On Monday, Mr. President also reiterated his commitment to these extensive police reforms. "We will continue to update and engage with you all on these action steps and the ones to come, in the spirit of transparency, so that you can hold us accountable. We are, after all, here to serve you and we owe you a duty to win back your trust". https://naijatv.net/endsars-dear-nigerians-your-feelings-of-frustration-are-justified-we-are-sorryprof-osibanjo/

Nonsense. Is it just to say sorry by mouth? What actions did you take in the last 6 years to ensures a drastic change. Osibanjo, I am particularly disappointed in you as one of your fans in the early time of this administration. Knowing fully well that you are a professor, I had expected you to do everything possible to revolutionise our education at least at the tertiary level. However, in a country where you are the VP, we still have unending ASUU strike. No any single infrastructural development in the tertiary institutions. All hostels and classrooms in sorry conditions. Cultists have taken over all institutions raping our women at will. In a particular institution in your region south west, cultists had the audacity to write threat letter to hostel mates. What a shame?? Wouldn't the federal government have sent these moronic police to do a fact finding mission and fish out those cultists? To add salt to injury, you gladly went and took a smiling snapshot with your daughter after graduation in London? SHAME!!! Same thing your oga Buhari did. Former senate president Saraki did. Former deputy senate president Ekweremadu did. What then is the excuse you want to give the youths? Can't Buhari declare emergency on education, carry out extensive renovations on all university and settle ASUU to resume school immediately? Osibanjo, your kids would find it safe and good to study here you know. Even the president daughter recently went out to give birth. Simply because our health sector is in horrible conditions. You guys a big bunch of disappointment including PDP. 1 Like 1 Share |

You allowed your love for buhari to becloud your sense of reasoning. You stood with oppression and tyranny when all patriotic Nigerians ought to have condemn the madness of our politicians including the nepotistic behaviour of buhari. Osibanjo has done what he could do, he isn't the president, the Constitution didn't empower him to do anything than what the president ask him to do, when he was the acting president he removed the DSS boss that eventually earn him enemies in the north. 2 Likes 1 Share |

helinues: Read the post state Governors have been directed to constitute panels of inquiries in thier respective states to assertain the cases of extra-judicial killings and abuses of men of the disbanded and infamous SARS. They were eqauly directed to setup a fund to compensate affected victims. More importantly of what he said is that the process of Police Reformation has commenced in ernest. I think at this point we should allow the process to envolve |
