You are a big fool if you think midfield control is established by your AMs. Midfield control lies in the hands of the deep lying midfielders who receive the ball from the defence and touch the ball the most times. That's why a DM can make 100 passes a game while an AM will make 40 or 50. The AM job is to penetrate with runs and through balls.

Midfield control is also according to the instructions of the manager, and you must be a fool if you think Ballack and Essien cannot control the midfield which they showed many times, but they also play according to the instruction of the manager to play on the counterattack and let opposition hold the ball knowing they can't penetrate.
