funshyboi: It shouldn't but you can just set a float voltage to check your battery at float(I assume it's lead acid). So don't disconnect it from charging.
Check the panel surface which may be dusty it's also possible you don't have demand (load). Finally there is change in the direction of the sunlight so depending on your panel tilt that may be the reason for lower yields as well |

ojeysky: Thanks bro, I’m talking about the lifespan of the solar panel not battery because I think since it’s exposed to sun electrons will be generated and the battery is lithium not lead. Pls what do you mean at the bolded |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ojeysky(m): 9:13pm On Nov 24, 2020 |
funshyboi: I knew you were talking about panel lifespan and I already adviced that it should not impact the lifespan. That said I have not reached or gotten close to the lifespan(25 years) of mine. As to the highlighted, what I meant is that perhaps the cell is full and you don't have much load hence the reason harvest is low so increase your load to see if there is changes |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by mcTrinity(m): 10:49am On Nov 25, 2020 |
What happens when you buy cheap Chinese panels... Just 3 years Anyways, please who knows how to redeem the Contacts...? Can they be changed or modified Thanks

That seems to be a terminal issue and nothing to do with the cells themselves. Maybe you stay in a corrosive area? mcTrinity: 1 Like |

ojesymsym: Lol, if they could use such shiiity material for terminals, do you think they will do better in the cells section? Corrosive area, in Nigeria? I don't think so. Just asking 1 Like |

@DeMerciful, where are you? |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ojesymsym: 7:16pm On Nov 25, 2020 |
Possibly, but don't forget the guys who make the cells are different from the final assembly plants. Ibeju Lekki axis of Lagos is said to be corrosive, things rust faster there. I have also heard takwa bay is like that too Oshomo12: |

ojesymsym: Corrosive ke... Erosive ko Lollzzz Attached pics shows all six panels. The 2 marked X were the only ones affected as shown in the previous Pic. Remaining 4 still have their contacts very clean and new

see my issue here. 6kva invictus inverter, yohako mppt cc, 14 250 watts panels. the installer used ac breaker for panels to cc the major issue is that on a sunny day if the breaker is left on, bulbs , phone chargers etc connected to the house will burn, even light switch left on will not go totally off, but be giving small light., but if the breaker is turned off, everything goes to normal. hence they are unable to use inverter during the day has anybody experieinced this before? also am looking for the manuals of yohako mppt cc and invictus inverter, lemme peruse and see if the problem is from there. am open to other suggestions |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by durodee(m): 2:02am On Nov 26, 2020 |
Your invictus inverter seems to work on an algorithm that does not factor in higher voltages to the batteries during charging. Inverters are meant to compensate automatically and not allow working on a premise that if 48v DC imput =240AC output, then 56v DC should equal 300v AC!!!! whiteMandingo: 2 Likes |

1. MSW right? 2. Transfer switch available? 3. What voltage does the voltage turn charger, one I use one time does so at 14.7V float odimbannamdi: |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ojesymsym: 4:42am On Nov 26, 2020 |
This seems very correct. Some low end inverters will also do this restarting and stopping process to try to accommodate or understand this high voltage. This is one area hybrid inverters excel and they already know how to adjust their voltage accordingly. One way round it is to reduce the output voltage to the battery from the charge controller a bit, that can help. That implies that the charge controller has to be the type where you can adjust parameters durodee: |

Yesterday I had cause to reexamine the HA02 battery balancers. I was curious to see how well they could balance two mismatched batteries so I placed a 1000w load on one battery and measured how many watts the HA02 was moving from the second battery. Essentially, the HA02 started out moving over a 100w for a few seconds but steadied at about 4w of balancing. I judge this grossly insufficient to balance a battery bank of 12v 200Ah (2,400wh) except the batteries were already closely matched. I was able to run this experiment fairly conclusively and determine that the HA02 could not sustain the 5A (~60w) of balancing current advertised on the nameplate beyond the first 10 seconds. Now who has access to the Victron balancers to see how much power they can actually move around? The spec sheets say 1A or ~12w 1 Like |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Saipro(m): 10:32am On Nov 26, 2020 |
I have both the HA02 and a pretty nameless but similar looking one I bought on recommendation. Your observations are at par with mine (taken at numerous measurements over the past few years). The "clone" however can do 2A steady and at times exceeds that. It makes an annoyingly louder high frequency hum though. Conclusion: (from the perspective of lead acid chemistry) If one is to use balancers, do it as early as possible, preferably at the commissioning of the battery bank. If possible, couple in desulphators as well. By the time a battery has drifted far apart from the others, it's probably almost too late. Edit: The nameless brand is Taico and recent measurements show <0.05A through the most active leg during bulk. Batteries are in harmony. 2 Likes |

I want to know something. As I currently use 600W PV to sufficiently charge my 200AH 12V Amaron Quanta battery, would same pv be able to charge 12v 200AH lithium ion phosphate battery? If not (as I suspect), what pv capacity would be enough to charge the latter? Also, what would be the difference in performance of both batteries when fully charged and running same load of say, 300W max? |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by adrusa: 2:32pm On Nov 26, 2020 |
IYGEAL: 1. If your current PV setup can adequately charge your lead acid battery, it will be sufficient for lithium of similar capacity. Lithium is in fact a bit more efficient in charging, so it will even take a little less. 2. Lithium will perform better in all ramifications. |
