You still don’t get it, that’s cos most of y’all read to reply and not to understand. Same way some believe I’m a Xhaka fan.
With the limited resources at our disposaldurint the TW our order of signing should have been midfield fully sorted before defence, particularly when it was evident Ozil wouldn’t feature.

Gabriel is not a bad signing, but he’s not a priority as it can be seen already and signing him has been proven to be counterproductive.

How has he being player of the month moved Arsenal away from bottom half? It’s talks like this that that show misplaced priority.

Gabriel was not priority, the difference is that in comparison to other targets, his transfer was easier. Are you going to forget the team pursued Aouar relentlessly throughout the transfer but Lyon was not bulging? Was it Gabriel’s fault?

How about Coutinho? Would you say you were unaware that Arsenal made strong approaches to the player but new coach Koeman blocked it..

How about Edouard of Celtics whom we bid for? Celtics turned down 2 offers.

The defense needed a good presence which Gab has been but to now make sarcastic comments at him and the defense like the team expended all the money chasing defenders is not cool.

Permit me to rephrase my comment.

Our problem in attack is not the attackers but the midfielders. We have absolutely no midfield as there is no attack creation from there. So don't blame the defensive issues on the attackers. Saka has been outstanding, b7t when you see Aubameyang goal, you know he is not a small finisher, he only needs to do less ball work and focus on scoring. But that can only happen when someone else in midfield is doing that ball work. Our problem this season has been in midfield. Our failure to sign an AM has been our undoing.

Please refer to Roland17 post above for more clarification.
Maybe because I sometimes refer AM to as attackers.

Come off it, With a strong attack and average defence which was what we had , we won’t go over 5 games without winning, we won’t go the whole November with only penalty to show for it.

No team has won anything with a below average attack, below average midfield and strong defence.
I dey feel you bro.. Even though we go still fight cheesy undecided

No one said Gabriel is not good, but he's slowly turning to mustafi type because we didn't get our priority right.
We conceded and lost more compare to last season.
Statistically, there's no point buying him

Check my post and point to anywhere I blamed Gabriel this season. I even mentioned at a time that signing 2 VVDs would still force our diffence into errors, with the kind of midfield and blunt attack we have which will make our opponents have a run at us.
After signing Partey we should have gone all out for an AM no matter what. Gabriel wasn’t a priority considering paucity of funds, reason I wasn’t excited about his signing cos I knew it would be counterproductive.

I remember asking mostob to mention me when we sign an AM the day he announced Partey and Gabriel.

You guys are the ones getting it wrong when you argue Gabriel was a priority. Abeg, how much did we buy Gabriel? 27M!! Isn’t that a steal considering his qualities?

The focus of the transfer was on the midfield with 3 bids on Aouar, 2 loan options for Coutinho, 2 bids for Edouard and a successful transfer for Partey! So what are we talking about here?

What you are failing to acknowledge is that the club went all out for midfielders especially Aouar.
We made 3 different bids for the man but Lyon was uninterested.

We met the release clause for Partey and he is with us now. The defense was never a priority or even a focus despite how hard myself and @Spy360 talked about. Gabriel was available and for such a good player who genuinely wanted to join Arsenal it was a good move.

Remember, they were content extending Luiz and making the loan moves for Mari and Soares permanent.. So, absolutely no.. the defense was never a priority for the board.

I have heard u, it’s just that no one at the club hierarchy would swallow their ego and play Ozil so we watch till January. This was why I was arguing for play Ozil earlier this season and got tagged a fan boy. It can’t be worse than this. Over 5 games without a win.

What am talking about is dacoure worth 25m, Allan 25m, James 25m
We were going after the impossible while the possible slipped away, I still insist with this present midfield if we have vvd and koulibally they will suffer alot

People forget Manchester United and Napoli made serious approaches for Gabriel. Infact the former made a late gasp bid to get the player to move to Old Trafford but Gabriel turned it down as he was focused on joining Arsenal irrespective of the higher wage offered by United.

I am not questioning the choice of players but to say we prioritized the defense because we bought Gabriel is a flat out lie I will not accept.

The club chased 3 midfielders throughout the transfer window and made 2 bids for a striker, whether it materialized is a different conversation.

The club was uninterested in clearing out the dead-woods in our defense. Remember they came for Sokratis and it was turned down. Holding was at the verge of joining Newcastle but it was cancelled. Luiz was extended, Soares and Mari were made permanent. Those were very easy businesses for the club and showed they were uninterested in the defense.

You are making it sound like he’s doing us a favour. his signing doesn’t benefit us at the moment as it didn’t address out pressing issue. We should have gone all out for an AM. We signed him for 25M if we had added 30M to that it’ll get us an AM

Baba, you and I share similar sentiments about Ozil and the team. I don’t like the state of our Defense/midfield/ attack but I don’t think it is fair to say because we got Gabriel for cheap that means the board prioritized the defense. They took a shot at it and the player wanted the move. There was no 2nd or 3rd bid for the player.

The board were chasing midfielders but like @iamoyindamola said, we were on a wild goose chase. They got one of their target and continue to chase the 2nd one who continues to play in Lyon. Don’t get me wrong, I am not supporting the board.. Naaa.. I detest what they are doing to the team but they chased midfielders and an attacker.

If Celtic accepted the bid for Edouard, Lacazette would have been gone. That is why I am mad at Arteta because he blocked the transfer of Xhaka only to loan out Torreira who would have been a better combination with Partey.

If he joined United we would have been all over the place blaming ourselves. The club chased 3 midfielders.. Made bids for all 3, only one materialized. We needed a DM/CM/AM but came out with one. Lyon were uninterested in selling Aouar and it did not matter to them who was bidding.

First and foremost the board is stupîd, secondly what you are defending they did sounds to me like, I have 10kg rice at home but no sauce. With just 5k to sort sauce I came across someone that offers to sell 20kg rice to me for 5k I’m happy cos it’s cheap then buy it. Only to go back home to realize I still do not have sauce. Na only white rice I go dey chop? That’s exactly what the board did.

Penny wise pounds foolish.

According to your analogy, since Arsenal could not sign CM/AM, they should have not signed Gabriel?

Baba your 5K was not enough to buy you any kind of sauce in the first place.. You priced 3 different types of sauces and the sellers either told you they were not interested in selling their sauce or that your 5K no reach!

Do you know Aouar’s release clause?

I don't want to believe all this rumour of gang up by the players against the coach o.
I heard Luiz is the leader and Ozil, the deputy.
It started when Arteta publicly called out Pepe . And yhere was this rumour that leaked out and Arteta promised to 'destroy' the person that leaked the story out.
I just weak...

63M plus add ons! Why do you think Juventus and others backed out? So according to your math of joining Gabriel’s money with 30M, we would still have been short! We would have had to add Partey/Gabriel’s to stand any remote chance of convincing Lyon.

In all honesty what I think arteta needs to do is be more vocal . Call out lazy players and demand relentless effort and attitude . The second half showed that if everyone came in with the Saka Attitude, we may not still have played the best football but we would most certainly be in the ascendancy for most periods with more that enough chances to secure maximum points.

The way they were walking on the pitch at times was infuriating. This is Arsenal at home and Southampton has so much time on the ball to the extent of having superior ball possession? It's a disgrace for any team other than the traditional four to have more of the ball than Arsenal at the emirates.

And why has our pressing disappeared and become disjointed? Is pressing so hard or are these players just flat out lazy. If any player can not work his socks off over 90 minutes then the manager should be brave enough to drop him

I like miguel azzeez and folarrin nd boy do I miss martinelli.

I'm also a bit disappointed that Arteta who learned under Pep with the same philoshopy is bowing to pressure of changing his style due to poor performances. I'd rather that he sticks to his philosophy of having possession to create chances from open play which is the type of football arsenal is know for. If any of the senior players are to lazy to perform . Be like mourhino and publicly call them out and use other players.

These guys are paid good money and this performances should not be tolerated. Even if we end up in a relegation dogfight. Let's know that the eleven we put on the pitch will play their hearts out . Liverpool do not have the classiest players but the most hardworking ones who will run for 90 minutes sticking to their plan. If we need to move forward the players coming in must embrace the culture and the present ones must be re orientated . No team respects Arsenal again and it's clear to see why cos the players are not ready to put in a shift. It's a ruthless league and only the strong survive.

Neways we move!

Our present situation has nothing to do with the attack/defense arguments. The problem we have is a midfield problem. That is, both defensive and attacking. Hence your opposition on 'defense wins you league' doesn't hold. Had we signed an AM and had Partey been fit, you would have seen the beauty of a strong defensive show even if the attack is not firing as they should.

When we say Arsenal's problem is deep, the bolded is another pressing issue, who knows if Aour,Partey and Shobolaiz won't adopt the slow insipid weak style culture we see at the Emirates..

Sanchez was the last I saw never stopped his energetic style of play when he arrived.

I would never like allow the big boys, star boys celebrities and billionaires in my team.

Watch how Doucoure,Allan,Iwobi and Richarlison will run Arsenal down with work rate..
Virtually all teams in England are no slouch, push over or weaklings.

I don't know if the coach isn't bothered about this though.
