My guy went to meet his uncle in NNPC to help him with a job, uncle say make my guy go learn tailoring after bachelors and masters haba. What's the essence of going to school then? This entrepreneurship isn't for everybody, there are professional courses we study it because we wanted to practise such profession. 1 Like |

Most Courses we study in higher institutions today are not relevant and are useless when it comes to today reality.... |

ambr055i:You are among the few who got my point. If I most attend a University or polytechnic as the case may be, the programme should be relevant to the profession I want to practice. There is BSc in Textiles, HND in Fashion Design etc. How can I become Chartered and you will be telling me to be making small chops? You should have told me before enrolling in the programme. |

KingsCity:ICAN trained you and you should leverage on it to make a successful entrepreneur by establishing your own accounting and financial management firm. How many exams did Igbo business men passed? |

People are still trying to get admission and also write these exams. Ican is not in charge of industrialization or creating enabling environment for businesses. |

ednut1:They (not ICAN) should create incentives for these people to look elsewhere and embrace entrepreneurship. And guide them to get relevant training in Vocational institutes instead of trying to gain admission just to get an irrelevant degree and useless charters. We need to refocus. |

mrrandomguy: Is so obvious they just want your dues and don't care about the profession, is not just your association but telling chartered accountants to go into fashion or baking is uncalled for. 3 Likes |

KingsCity: Each day, I read new OKOTO MEOW'D posts. For goodness sake, everyone cannot be an entrepreneur! Nowhere in the world are there are more entrepreneurs than employees. So, where did you sniff out the statement that "it is better to be an entrepreneur than an employee"? With all the preaching regarding entrepreneurship, what is Nigeria's unemployment rate? Poverty rate? I security rate? GDP growth rate? GDP per capita? C'mon! Did you people not study economics in secondary schools? What sort of ridiculous posts do I read daily? In other parts of the world, no one postulates to accountants to be entrepreneurs or even MBA grads to start a business because the nitty-gritties for entrepreneurship differs greatly from just being an accountant. But only in Nigeria do I read posts from seemingly educated people that everyone should go into entrepreneurship. BTW, what are the businesses constituting these entrepreneurship? Baking? Bead making? Soap production? Barbing? Sewing? Mushroom private schools? Fish ponds? Damn! 3 Likes 2 Shares |

The word 'entrepreneur' ehn.. e don suffer. Tell a Bsc graduate about entrepreneurship, I could tolerate that. But a professional programme like ICAN? ICAN should rank alongside the NSE for engineers, Law school or medical. Imagine any of the bodies preaching entrepreneurship to their members. People did this programme through their nose, only to hear that entrepreneurship sermon? Anybody can be an entrepreneur, but coming from this body is very very unfortunate. P.S entrepreneurship is a good thing. 1 Like |

ambr055i:its the reality on ground. They told us same when i did induction in 2015. The bitter truth is that Nigerians believe getting bsc 2.1 cfa, acca, ican, cisa will land them a job. In reality there are few jobs than qualified candidates. Blame our useless leaders since 1960 1 Like 1 Share |

mrrandomguy: I reserve my comment. ICAN, just like universities don't promise automatic jobs upon graduation. ICAN is a professional exam mainly for practicing Accountants. Due to some reasons, we apply for jobs within our regions instead of whole country. Nothing bad in becoming an entrepreneur as plan B, while you hunt for your career job. It may take 1 to 5 years to land your dream job with desired salary scale. |

FarahAideed:there are way many even living above the life you are living but that's not the point I am making. Why put people through stress and the end of the day give them a caveat that they should be self employed? After all they have bscs, why collect extra money in the name of being chartered? Why not allow them to pursue entrepreneurship? 1 Like |

ednut1: I know accountants that managed average salary in small firms, while trying to get chartered. Those that went straight for ICAN without practicing cannot settle for low pay and little or no work experience will be a disadvantage. |

Re: I Give Up On Nigeria As ICAN Tell Inductees To Become Entrepreneurs by Katlyst(m): 10:42pm On Dec 24, 2020 |
jesmond3945: ICAN and BSc certificates don't guarantee jobs. However, have a plan B, while you pursue your dream job. A times, it's good to gain experience with low paying firms than wait till eternity. |
