Most people are looking at the situation of things now and not the situation of things when the club decided to take that decision. We had so many CB's playing trash at that time, Arteta definitely had a plan of offloading them in the long run hence he got a solid long term replacement in Gabriel.

Papasthapopulous has been relieved of his duty at Arsenal, Mustafi is most likely to follow suit. Chambers may likelg leave the team if his injury woes continue. That leaves us with dem Mari, Luiz, Holding, and Gabriel as senior CB options all things being equal.

If we all talk about how Man city have squad depth and wish arsenal had something similar, then we shouldn't blame Arteta for taking that Gabriel decision
