Agboriotejoye: My brother, next time, try to take the surroundings into consideration and think deeper before dropping comments on issues... It's a shame that you even took this story seriously.. Shows your lack of intelligence, creativity and figurative techniques... That you had to spend time compiling some trashy note to REFUTE an IRONY.... Don't know how to even describe you... .. Anyway, let me help you explain the technique I used... Too bad... 1. First, you are dealing with an irony, not a factual story... You should google SITUATIONAL IRONY, don't thank me... Let me further explain... When you saw the title, what was the first thing that came to your mind? Of course, you, and others, were expecting to see blood and some horrific pictures! But you saw something completely different! Something that didn't only betray your thoughts, but also made mockery of them... That's actually the purpose of the thread, and that's why it has the number of views it has... I am sure you all were pissed that what you expected wasn't what you saw... You expected to see a gory image of herdsmen wreaking havoc but when you clicked, you read a story of your worst enemy being excessively and unbelievably kind to your fellow. Of course, such a turn of event can lead to heart attack! ... Adolf. Aboki did something similar 2 days ago. 2. Regarding the good samaritan allusion, we have a collabo between irony and hyperbole (some may even say adynaton because it's simply highly unlikely if not impossible).. While the good Samaritan, even though the Samaritans and Jews despised each other, rendered help to the injured Jew, the Fulani Herdsmen, in this case, went a step further by rendering help to an enemy(notice his name Femi) with an outrageous amount simply because Femi helped his (the Herdsmen's) other enemy! In this situation, instead of "kidnapping" or "killing" them, as we now read in the media, they didn't... Rather, they "spared their lives" (being compassionate) and even rewarded Femi on top! Now tell me who can be more "good Samaritan"? Just like Assassins and armed robbers come to your house, instead of assassinating you and carting away your valuables, do you a favor of "sparing your life" and on top of that, gives you huge sum of money as a reward for alerting the police. Sounds crazy, right? Well, that's actually the reason I used "good Samaritan"... Cos we are made to believe that the Fulani herdsmen are killers and kidnappers. Ordinarily, Femi and the woman were supposed to be kidnapped or killed. But these good Samaritan herdsmen "spared them" and not only that, rewarded Femi for helping someone that should have been their victim. 3. Won't go further than this... Hopefully, with this explanation, you should, by now, be able to decode the true intent of this thread. If you still can't, then, my brother, I am afraid. Your case is beyond all... God bless Nigeria. 1 Like 1 Share |

SilverNorGold: Seems I got under your skin by referring to your story as "obviously fake". You had to resort to an homily on irony like the good Samaritan story itself is not an irony in the first place. The difference though is that knowing how slimy and dirty you are in doing your evil works, one must make it clear to all and sundry that you're simply lying, something you thought to muddle up by providing fake WhatsApp chats which is reminiscent of fraudsters. An analogy will be Jesus producing a parchment of letters between him and the Jew just to buttress his story. That will be a pointer to an attempt at believability and admissibility. I hope you can now understand why I had to spell it out that your story is fake. If it hits you wrongly just blow some air at the sore point. Now to the meat of the matter. You seem to misconstrue what it means to "help". By referring to the herdsmen's act as help, you seem to want to equate or rate it higher with that of Femi who actually carried out a benevolent act on the stranded woman and of course that of the good Samaritan. Now, let's look at the good Samaritan again. He meets a wounded and possibly dying man by the roadside and looks to save his life. Femi in your story finds himself in a similar circumstance. He meets a stranded young woman and helps her find her way. But for the Fulani, they gave a man money, who isn't in need of money and even initially rejected the offer. I hope you can see the difference now. You have again raised the idea that the Fulani were merciful because they did not break the laws by killing and maiming. That is the most self-indicting statement one can think of. Being of good and lawful behaviour is not an act of help nor benevolence especially in a lawful society. It is an act of rational/reasonable human beings. To glorify the Fulani herdsmen for obeying our laws is to ascribe to them as being above the law itself. Obeying the law is an obligation. The law does not require Femi to help the stranded woman. But it certainly requires the Fulani herdsmen or an assassin to not maim or kidnap their fellow citizens. For the assassin to have entered your house without your approval and with intent to harm is already a crime in itself. It doesn't matter if he had an epiphany and decided to "spare" you or give you out of his previous loots. It was never his right to decide whether you're worth sparing or not in the first instance. So if you refer to the herdsmen not harming Femi and the woman as "being compassionate", then you tacitly admit that they are actually a band of criminals. I have reproduced the story of the good Samaritan for you. Read it. There, you'll find other characters like priests, Levites and the inn keeper. With your suggestion, you can also say the priests and Levites were also "good Samaritans" for simply going about their way and not hurting the fallen Jew. You could even label the inn keeper benevolent for doing a job he was paid for. Jesus answered, "A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. By chance a certain priest was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. In the same way a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he travelled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion, came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the host, and said to him, 'Take care of him. Whatever you spend beyond that, I will repay you when I return.' Now which of these three do you think seemed to be a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?" Lastly, you seem to believe the biggest help anyone can render is to give out money. This may explain why you think the Fulani and not Femi are the good Samaritan. Says a lot about where your values lie. God save you |

Agboriotejoye: My brother, go through my post again(https://www.nairaland.com/6403514/see-what-fulani-herdsmen-did/3#98855942). I have even attached it to my OP for others to see... Google and learn the terms I highlighted and stop being ignorant. Instead of you to thank me for the lecture, you are here posting nonsense. Again, go back to the post and stop embarrassing yourself. I wonder why Nairaland is full of uncreative characters. Exactly what happened in the thread I created in the religion section. Some intelligent members had to explain satire and sarcasm to the many ignorant commenters.. Same thing here.. Had to explain Situational Irony, Hyperbole and Adynaton to ignorant folks. What a shame! And the good Samaritan allusion has been explained intelligently... Go back and reread... You still have a very long way to go. I don't think you can ever understand poetry. Agboriotejoye: My brother, your case is irredeemable! Comprehension is also one of your problems! Anyway, that's your problem. Meanwhile, go back to that post and LEARN! I did it out of goodwill for you and others to learn so you don't go embarrassing yourself. Also check AdolfAboki thread for more examples (and don't go and embarrass yourself there).. I have also attached that reply to my OP for others like you to learn. If you notice, I attached key ignorant comments with my reply under. Some learned and corrected their mistakes. So whether you correct yours or not is up to you. But on a serious note, you need to hone your literary skills. Learn how to identify techniques so you don't go about embarrassing yourself. Like I revealed to you in the other thread(at your other moniker), I don't write plainly like you lot. This is evident in most of my posts... But of course, you never took Literature seriously back then.. Anyway, Nigeria must better. 1 Like |

SilverNorGold: Lol, Comrade. You have time o... Lecturing ignorant wailers! We all know what they were expecting when they clicked the thread title... To them, all Fulanis are killers. Which means any Fulani herder that didn't only spare your life but also reward you for helping their victims, should be "worshipped" because he's not just a good Samaritan, he's also probably a benevolent god... For him to not only help his victim(sparing his life) but also rewarding him for helping another of his victim! A SITUATIONAL IRONY, indeed! Just like a hungry lion not only sparing the life of his prey, but also feeding it. That's a situational irony! More than a good Samaritan! You shouldn't be wasting your time educating ignorant folks! Lol. 1 Like 1 Share |

SilverNorGold:Seems you don't know what poetry entails. You need to go back to school. Believe me, I have taken my time to learn about you and from you. Let me ask to what end is your so-called literature? Artists are supposed to be a mirror for the society. It's either you're looking to reduce the herdsmen matter to jest or you're trying to push a narrative in their favour. If it's jest you look to do, I'll ask you one question: Are you sure you're okay? If it's to push the narrative in their favour which I believe is your aim, I have one word to describe you, two words rather: Lame Failure Maybe you should have given it to someone more knowledgeable about the story of the good Samaritan from which you took your plot before you applied it. You lost the plot when you equated giving money by a criminal to someone who has shown no need for it to a benevolent act. It shows your lack of understanding of the subject and your poor grasp of the underlying issues. To elevate herdsmen not killing people but giving them money instead to being good Samaritans is to reduce the story to a legalistic one and not that of morality as the original creator of the story intended. Again, note the following points: 1. The criminals in the good Samaritan story remained so. The difference was in a Jew being helped by a Samaritan. Both don't agree in matters of religion but they never do harm to each other. 2. The Jew would have expected to be saved by the priest or Levite cause of his relationship with them. 3. The Samaritan saved the Jew's life. Now look at your story and see if your Fulani herdsmen fit into any of the above. Lastly, what was the WhatsApp chats for? Nigeria must be saved from enemies masquerading as friends. |
Re: See What Fulani Herdsmen Did To My Friend - So Shocking! (SEE PICTURES) by Agboriotejoye(m): 11:30am On Feb 08, 2021 |
AdolfAboki:Aboki indeed. He can apply that and give it another name. But definitely not good Samaritan which is what you should understand if you have any atom of sense in you. Look at your analogy I put in bold. Does that in any way describe the good Samaritan? Were Samaritans and Jews killing each other? Go and read John chapter 4 so you can understand the relationship between Jews and Samaritans Was the injured man a prey? The good Samaritan was culled from a moralistic point of neighbourliness. The herdsmen are involved in criminal affairs. Can you spot the difference? |

It's either you didn't read my comments at all or you read but couldn't understand. I have advised you several times, don't comment or oppose just to "feel like you've said something".. I have read your comment, and the funny thing? My previous replies have already answered this and your previous comment. Which means you are now just repeating the same thing, as usual. To prove this, read your comment and go and reread my replies, you'll see that I am right. Please raise unique points so that our conversation will not be boring. Repeating the same thing over and over again will only frustrate readers. I love debates and I love having intelligent discussions. But when you begin to repeat same thing, it frustrates the audience. That said, I request you raise unique issues or REFUTE the points I have made, intelligently. Agboriotejoye: Your inability to reason is your issue. The prey is saved by the predator, something unnatural. Only a good samaritan can do that. Naturally, the HUNGRY lion should devour its prey. The prey is helpless and at its mercy. Now, instead of devouring its prey, the hungry lion went a step further to feed it. That's an act that can be described as GOOD... Then coming from an UNEXPECTED SOURCE makes it SAMARITAN! This is SIMPLE, SIMPLE METAPHOR! 1 Like 1 Share |

AdolfAboki: In the story of the good Samaritan, who is the prey and who is the predator? Do Samaritans kill Jews when they meet? Kindly answer this question. I don't even know why I'm arguing with you. You're both ignorant about the story of the good Samaritan. You just conjure up an image in your mind and look for a premise for it. Unfortunately, in this case you're very wrong. I can only pity you both. Like I already told you, the story of the good Samaritan is about helping those in need not minding their race or cultural heritage. It is not one of a benevolent predator saving its prey. But how can you understand when your senses have been filled with the right to kill. If it was as you framed it, the robbers would have been the one "helping" the Jew not the Samaritan. But can you be bold enough to see the light? You children of darkness? Nigeria must be reborn |

Agboriotejoye, and others, you erroneously assume the herders, all of them, are killers.. Now an image of one who rescues a potential victim from his(the herder's) own evil and even rewarded his victim (a situational irony) is conjured, and you are still asking same question? Do you understand the caliber of figurative creativity at play? Do you realize that it's you and the other Fulani haters that are being subjected to ridicule here? Do you understand that the allusion is also an attack on the hypocritical Nigerian Christians, most of them, for persecuting an entire tribe just because of the sin of a few? I can go on and on. You are not literary inclined, hence, you should save yourself the stress as you are not making sense here. Common Metaphor, you are finding it extremely difficult to understand. I wonder what you will do if Pataphor and other extended metaphorical devices are used. Please get yourself informed. 1 Like 1 Share |

AdolfAboki: It is you and your likes who have refused to read and understand. You claim it's a metaphor. He claims it's an irony. The fact is that a metaphor shows similarity of events. An irony is when an event ends with unexpected results. So which one are we really taking now? You see how confused you both are? What is most sad is the fact that you both don't even understand what the story of the good Samaritan is about nor what it teaches. You ignorantly ascribed your own meaning to it and went to town with silly tales hiding it under figurativeness. I've asked you simple questions, you both have sidestepped them, which shows your unwillingness to learn and tacit admission of failure. Whether you choose irony or metaphor, the undeniable fact is that your friend's story does not fit that of a good Samaritan. Now, let me highlight what a good Samaritan is and isn't. 1. A good Samaritan is not a criminal refusing to kill his would-be victim. 2. A good Samaritan is not someone who pays people for doing good to his friend or enemy. 3. A good Samaritan is not a friend to a friend or friend to an enemy. He is simply a friend. 4. He is not a judge of other people's character. He does not deal with people based on how they deal with others. He simply deals with people based on their needs. 5. A good Samaritan is someone who extends kindness to others irrespective of their race or background. 6. A good Samaritan is one who helps the needy not considering if they are of same religion or society. 7. Lastly, a good Samaritan is one who sees everyone has his brother or sister. |

Agboriotejoye: This guy is confusing himself. See my post, I clearly stated situational irony as one of the devices used. My bringing Metaphor into this doesn't invalidate that fact. Guy, you are confused, let's be honest. Your assumption is that once it's metaphorical, it can't be ironical and the reverse. That's ignorance. This alone shows you have no idea about what we are even saying - sounds like a rocket science to you. And still repeating the good Samaritan allusion despite our explanations above shows how irredeemably clueless you are. Please revisit my posts, and also Silver's post. You will get your answer again. The problem is that you don't even understand these devices, so no amount of explanation will make any sense to you. It's just like giving you an unseen William Shakespeare's poem to analyze. You'll just stare at it cluelessly. That's the truth. That's where your issue lies - IGNORANCE! 1 Like 1 Share |

AdolfAboki: Let me make this short story. A Sunni Muslim traveled to his farm. On the way, he came across Fulani herdsmen who beat him up and robbed him and left him for dead. A sheikh came across the farm, did astagafrulah and left. A Shiite Muslim also came saw the man in his blood, touched the ground and left. Then came a Nupe Christian who quickly went to the man, took care of his wounds and took him to a Catholic hospital in Kaduna. After the man became well, he paid his hospital bills and asked the man for the way to his house. As it turned out, the man was the son of the sultan of Sokoto. The sultan was happy with the Nupe Christian for saving his son, he converted to Christianity, became a pastor and left his throne to the Nupe Christian to rule. Now who among these people is a good Samaritan? cc: SilvernorGold |
