apolonius:Thanks a lot. I guess I'll remove UK from my plans and focus on Canada. Please can you be more detailed with the financial opportunities in numbers - potential earnings. Entering into the UK is so much easier than Canada. The last time I tried Canada, they said I have no travel history after gaining admission into University of Regina. The process of coming to Canada through schooling also takes almost a year, even skilled FedEx entry takes that long too. Maybe I'll try with the tourist visa too. |

With law, you don't need to go back to law school everywhere. In Canada, you need to get your degree evaluated and then you do the courses they feel you need to complete. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpiAhJ721ik It is better for you to go for a masters or certificate and combine some of the courses you need to do with your Masters. You could also just study by yourself and write the exams. The way English is taught here is not how English is taught overseas. tensazangetsu20: 1 Like |

CSTRR:IT too. A lot of my friends with skills are getting visa sponsorship jobs right out of Nigeria. It's insane. I know like 3 people who have left this Corona period all their visas were sponsored from Nigeria. There's too much demand and not enough supply. |

Bodyodour:Go to YouTube. Search videos on programming and the different areas in programming. Web design, back end, database, web app development, android or iOS apps development, cyber security, e.t.c. Once you have made a decision on which one, there are videos on YouTube that can teach you. You can go to the programming section on nairaland to learn more about the different areas in programming. With rigourous study, in one year, you would be job ready in your chosen area of tech. |

They need to educate them on the opportunities the present day life present to us . The first and the most important focus about traveling abroad is JOB guarantee.. Now what type of job is most sought after in the country of choice? A simple search on google using "Most sought after skill in Canada or Dubai" will serve as a useful guide to help plan towards a successful relocation. From the search we saw, Forklift operator, Truck driving, Plumber ,Electrician ,construction worker and Mining jobs tops the chart for skilled labour. all these can help you prepare ahead and get professional training and certification to help you land a lucrative job security. In some countries like Canada, and new Zealand work permit is not required in your skill is not readily available in that town you wish to relocated to. There a good number of Skill acquisition training centers in Nigeria with international accreditation that could help you in that direction. 1 Like

[quote author=apolonius post=99184463]I haven’t logged on to post for awhile but for the silly generalizations on this topic. Art courses are relevant and useful in the West just like science courses. It depends on where you are, what you want, what you know and who is guiding you. I have lived in the UK for 11 years, and Canada for some years. While I studied in the former to PhD level, I did art(law). It has served me well. I know many who read art courses who are doing well in the financial, legal, healthcare, business and hospitality industries in Canada. In short, they read these courses from places like Abia, Osun, Ebonyi, Delta, Ogun and Ekiti states. I know science graduates too. Through the Canadian NCA process, I have met and continue to interact with many Naija lawyers trying to practice here. Some work in courts, law firms and big professional services firms like PWC, Deloitte, Denton...while writing their licensing exams. The licensing exams that Naija lawyers write are also written by American, British and Australian lawyers who want to practice law in Canada. It’s not peculiar to Naija lawyers. Naija and other African doctors even face greater and tougher pathways to getting licensed here. Engineers, nurses and teachers from across the world face licensing requirements and demands here too. Reason? ...Traditional professions are elitist and regulated to ensure credibility, control and compliance, and standardization. In Canada, the UK, the US and co, all immigrants go through processes and seasons to settle in. Reason? We were not born here, didn’t study here and couldn’t have built the organic network for easy ascension. It takes time to study, graduate and work in Naija where we were born and raised. It’s not abnormal and it is expected to take same, if not longer time, away from home in societies that are many decades, if not centuries, ahead of ours. Over 30,000 Nigerians moved to Canada since 2015...The opportunities and areas of accomplishments and struggles are diverse across science and the arts. Guys, do your research before you generalize.Stop listening to single and half stories of people who are determined to stay in their comfort zones on the sidelines of these societies. I can speak confidently about the UK and Canada. Ask questions, if you have. What is the opportunity like in Canada for Accounting from Nigeria |

My brother, pls don’t fall for those deceit. There is no discipline that would give u work abroad. If u re a nurse or medical doc in Nigeria. U still need license examinations like Nclex. Nclex for instant might take u 3yrs to pass depends on your IQ. Engineering start start afresh in d western countries unless u re ready for top up and certifications. |

ugohdignity111: Yes, they're not useless. In fact, I'll advise a studious student in those departments to travel out for MSc/PhD immediately after studies. They've better and easier to get opportunities than their law, philosophy or whatever humanities' counterparts. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

MufasaLion:studying law in Nigeria is not worth it. I am a lawyer and I have been jobless. I attached myself to a chamber, and for 2 days we didn't see a single client. Even when you attach yourself too a chamber in town, you will be paid a very low salary. Lawyers also twist the truth to favour them. Do you know that when applying or looking for a job in Nigeria as a lawyer, you will hardly see llb or b.l needed, all you will see is bsc,b.eng, ond, nceand nd. I am currently looking for federal Government job. I don't want to regret studying law. 2 Likes |

If I may chip in, art courses in the west are highly competitive and saturated (e.g. Law, Political Science). They also vary from one jurisdiction to another just like some previous posters have pointed out. Whereas, science is the same everywhere. Even medicine and accountancy that requires you to undergo their own versions of the aforementioned courses are in very high demand. I am a lawyer but I have to acknowledge that science is more important to the development of a country than arts. The Asian tigers of Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong got to where they are today because of the sciences. |

pocohantas: PROBABLY, if you want to increase your chances then you have to be in Healthcare or STEM to get a job abroad (UK, Canada, Australia and US) because those jobs are considered as difficult / complicated and the citizens don't want complicated jobs. That's why i maintain that those that have good jobs that flow with their passion don't know what God has done for them. Just imagine of my passion was twerking, God thank you oh. |

truthsayer009: Lol. If your passion was twerking and you twerk good, you may have a house in Lekki now. Seems you don’t know what your brothers do for ukwu. Yes @ probably. Had this discussion yesterday, but if I have to make such decision, I would stick to my field. Maybe take whatever certification is required of me there and branch off to Auditing... 1 Like 1 Share |
