First, Pfizer was not trying out a vaccine, it was trying out a new antibiotic treatment for meningitis.(see Abdullahi v Pfizer for more details)

Second,the vaccine used in the North for Polio is the OPV, which has been given to millions of Northern kids without side effect. It has helped Nigeria get polio free a few years ago.Pfizer is not involved in making polio vaccines.
