Nairaland / General / Nigeria At 60: Suffering And Smiling by Princekabir001: 6:59am On Oct 01, 2020
NIGERIA AT 60:

We keep celebrating our beloved nation every year and nothing has changed for good rather everything is getting worsening more every day, I could still imagine in a country of over two hundred million people blessed with a lot of natural resources but failed to utilize the opportunity effectively and efficiently for the betterment of our country but we keep promoting mutual hatred, mutual resentment among ourselves, Basic human development, basic economic development, basic social development can no longer be attained because of our elites selfishness who care about only themselves, yet we set 1st of October every year has day for rejoicing.

How can you celebrate Nigeria at 60 when there is no constant power supply? How can you celebrate a nation where businesses are dying, and where people are wallowing in extremely poverty? How can you celebrate a country which her clinics and health workers are agents of death, How can you celebrate a country where killings of innocent people are on rampage? How can you celebrate a nation that doesn't care about her Youths? Every aspect that I looked into I discovered there is nothing to celebrate, with massive wealth to spend as the largest oil producer in Africa but not really surprised because our oil revenues are been squandered by rich elites.

Our Politicians seems to be perpetually visionless, unobserving, unenlightened and consist of greedy, voracious, rapacious and corruptible leaders. Is it a rocket science to generate and maintain constant electricity , does it take eternity to build good roads, railways and maintain it, Is it impossible to have sound education system like our counterparts in the western part of the world? Is it difficult to build a minimally corrupt force where they are not desperate for token from the poor masses, Problems facing us as a nation are we ourselves but we keep agitating for Oduduwa and Biafra republic as if that will end our suffering.

If the three major tribes divide today and go separately we would have three poor countries with bad facilities and rampant corruption, we will be weaker and millions of Nigerian whose livelihood depend on the ability to travel freely in the nation for school, business, and living will be cut off and left in limbo, the same set of people ruling us will still emerge and the trend continues.

I'm serious sniveling as Nigeria celebrate her diamond age today, if it is not now then when are we going to have the country of our dream, a nation where peace and justice shall reign, a nation where equality shall be meted on both the Southerners and the Northerners, a country where our Youths will be her utmost priority, a situation where our dignity will be restored.

Education / Ungodly Hike Of Tution Fee In University Of Maiduguri: A Meted Of An Injustice. by Princekabir001: 7:23am On Oct 27, 2019

Education is our right not a privilege: high tuition fee in the name of a better educational standard will prompt education to be a privilege in which only the rich will be able to acquire it. In 1977 the government of Nigeria declared that education is an instrument of national development, If cost of acquiring this instrument is a burden on the people of the country and only the rich are able to overcome it how then will the country develop? High tuition fee is not a determinant of better educational standard: Countries like France, Germany, Finland, Norway to mention but few have a better educational standard compared to our dear country, their tuition fee is low. Taking it to economic implications, in a country where the minimum wage is still N18,000 per month and an average Nigerian will have to accumulate as much as two months’ salary to pay for the current tuition of just a child in the University and some have up to four children to train at a time, hike in turion fee is a scam and nothing but a plot to economically stratify most Nigerian of the benefits of education.
Increasing the tuition fee in University of Maiduguri will lead to increased drop-outs, loss of opportunity for education, irregular attendance to school and absenteeism by students, exposure to rape and crimes as many students will move out of the school hostel to off campus, others will skip classes to cut cost, Some will combine schooling and doing odd jobs and minimum attention will be paid to studies, hence poor academic performance sets in. Many will be unable to buy text books because of increased fees, no proper power supply to research the Internet; this makes it difficult for students to study when they want. Students will resort to vices In order to cope in the face of fee increased. Many females will go into prostitution, males will go into robbery. These conditions will lend breath to failure in examinations.
It is laughable to say that the schools in Europe, United States and other developed countries that offer tuition free education at all levels to its citizens are of less standard, because they choose to practice "education for all" (EFA). This singular act has not only improved their educational structure but reduced illiteracy, crime, and unproductiveness to its minimal level. Continuous increase of tuition fee in our own part will allow Nigeria develop newest acronym "education for the rich" (EFR).
On this note, National Association of University students as the highest decision making body for over twenty five million university students in Nigeria and diaspora say no to unjustifiable hike turion fee and also calling on the management of University of Maiduguri to reverse this ungodly action with impelling alacrity, it is uncalled-for and must be reversed with immediate effect, most especially at this unstable economic period.

God bless Nigeria university students

Viva Aluta.....
