Politics / Snatch Ballot Boxes And Risk Your Life - Buhari by Princeverest: 5:44pm On Feb 18, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari gives serious warning to thugs or sponsored individuals who would attempt to snatch ballot boxes would do so at their own risk because security agencies would be on ground to deal with such people ruthlessly and may cause them their lives.

This warning was given during the president`s speech at APC caucus meeting today.

“I want to warn anyone who thinks he has enough influence in his locality who tries to lead thugs to snatch ballot boxes or disturb the voting system will
do so at the expense of his own life,” Buhari said during the ruling All Progressives Congress caucus meeting in Abuja on Monday.

Buhari, who had earlier expressed disappointment in commission over the postponement of the general election said there will not be room for election riggers to carry out their acts.

The President, who is also seeking re-election, said Nigerians believed in INEC after the Commission assured of “complete readiness for the elections.”

The president, however, said he was not afraid of losing the election despite the election postponement and that he was optimistic because he has the support of Nigerians.

“I am not afraid, I went around 36 states to campaign. I think I have gotten enough support across the country,” Buhari said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the APC caucus meeting was called by the party’s national leadership to discuss matters arising from the postponement of the earlier scheduled Feb.16, Presidential and National Assembly elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

By the postponement, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now come up on Feb. 23, while the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections will come up on March 9.

President Buhari said he got the news of the postponement of the election at 4.30 a.m on the election day. He described the action as most unfortunate as the INEC had all the time and resources required to conduct the election.

“After the elections, we have to know exactly what happened, we cannot accept incompetence.

“The Constitution and the laws protect INEC, but they cannot take us for granted. We have to go into details after the elections to find out what happened ” he said.

The President maintained that the APC remains committed to ensuring a free, fair and credible elections.

Politics / Postponement Of Election An Agenda For Apc To Remain In Power- PDP by Princeverest: 8:04am On Feb 16, 2019
PDP rejects election postponement

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has said that shoddy arrangement for this election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is a deliberate pre-determined agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari to cling on to power even when it’s obvious to him that Nigerians want him out.
Secondus said that the postponement which he alleged is part of a grand design by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to thwart the will of Nigerians at all cost, clearly exposes INEC as a failure and calls on the Chairman of the Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu to resign immediately.

The PDP leader warned that the party will not accept anything short of a well organized electoral process devoid of manipulation, harassment and intimidation of voters and the opposition particularly members of the PDP.

“Having failed in all their nefarious options to enable them cling on to power, the APC and the INEC came up with the idea of shifting election an action that is dangerous to our democracy and unacceptable.”

The National Chairman said that the APC in connivance with the INEC have been trying all options including but not limited to burning down INEC offices in some states and destroying of electoral materials to create artificial problems upon which to stand for their dubious act.

According to a statement from the National Chairman’s media office signed by Ike Abonyi, Prince Secondus said that the party is privy to all the pressures from the APC and the federal government to arm twist the INEC, to dance to their new strategy after their earlier ones failed.

“With several of their rigging options failing, they have to force INEC to agree to a shift in the election or a staggered election with flimsy excuses pre-manufactured for the purpose.

“For the avoidance of doubt the PDP sees this action as wicked and we are also aware of other dubious designs like the deployment of hooded security operatives who would be ruthless on the people ostensibly to scare them away.”

He said that by the action of the President, he has further demonstrated his insensitivity adding that it has brought the huge cost for Nigerians including those who came home from abroad and had all mobilized to their various constituencies.

The PDP National Chairman recalled that the PDP had earlier alerted Nigerians that the APC was coming up with lined up rigging strategies including burning down of INEC offices and engineering crisis in PDP strong hold areas to scare away the people.

“Recall that the Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir el rufai had earlier threatened international election observers of going to their country in body bags and with the fatal violence in the state on the eve of election, it’s clear what the motives are, to frighten the observers from the state so that he can carry out his nefarious acts.”

The National Chairman also drew the attention of all lovers of democracy to the statement of President Buhari on the international media that nobody can unseat him from office as an indication of what he wants to do.

Prince Secondus also regretted that President Buhari who made a promise at the signing of peace accord that the election will be conducted in a fair and transparent atmosphere has gone ahead in breach of the peace agreements to send soldiers and other security agencies to arrest, harass and intimidate opponents in Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Kwara, Kano, Kaduna states.

Politics / Give Us Another Four Years, You Won't Regret It, Buhari Pleads by Princeverest: 12:15am On Feb 15, 2019
[img][/img]

President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to the electorate to give the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) another four years to complete all the ongoing developmental projects and to initiate fresh ones.

The president, who made the appeal at the Federal Capital Territory’s Presidential rally of the APC, said his administration would continue to ensure efficient utilisation of the nation’s scarce resources in the provision of infrastructural facilities across the country.

He, therefore, assured citizens that the government would continue to use the little resources at its disposal to make life better for them.

He said: “We have done a lot to start building the infrastructure – the roads, you know it more than I do; the railway and then power – we are going to get them done.

“If you give us the next four years I assure you, you won’t regret it.’’

President Buhari also insisted that those involved in the wastage of over 16 billion dollars on power sector without any meaningful results under the previous administrations would be investigated and anyone found wanting would be prosecuted.

He said: “You know there was no power under the previous administrations, and a previous government admitted without anybody asking them, that they spent $16 billion for power. You know more than I do – Where is the power? Where is the money?

“My point is on bribery and corruption, which is one of my three areas of focus. Those people who say they spent 16 billion dollars on power, they will account for it.
