Health / How Can I Verify My Nursing License To Work In Dubai? by Pstcozzy: 6:12am On Mar 30, 2022
Hello good people of nairaland.
Please I need una help.

My friend has this nursing job which she is certain she will get in Dubai based on insider connection.

Part of the requirement for the job is that you must have your current license verified from your country where u got it.

Is there any nurse here or do you know of any Nigeria registered nurse who is currently working in Dubai?

My friend would like to know the verification process he or she went through, because it seems the verification process is different depending on the country you wish to work in outside Nigeria.

Please guys, your accurate feedback will be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I'm sure he will be ashamed to see how the Nigeria pavilion fares in the midst of other nationality pavilions.

Truth is there is nothing what seeing in our pavilion other than some of our music stars who's pictures are on display, a mechanical horse that I don't know it's significance to our wealth of natural and human resources.

I felt really bad and ashamed of my country when I entered into our pavilion. And to even think I trekked distance searching for it hoping to be surprised in a gud way but only to be told from the looks of it that naija will always disappoint u in a bad way....

Nairaland / General / Nigeria’s Debt Fast Approaching Pre-2005 Paris Club Level, CBN Warns by Pstcozzy: 10:16am On Jan 23, 2019
The monetary policy committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has warned that the federal government’s debt levels could be fast approaching the pre-2005 levels.

Reading the communique of the committee’s decision at the end of its bi-monthly meeting on Tuesday, Godwin Emefiele, the CBN governor, said: “On external borrowing, the committee noted the increase in debt level advising for caution, noting that it could fast be approaching the pre-2005 Paris Club level.”

On October 20, 2005, Nigeria reached an $18 billion debt relief agreement with Paris Club. Nigeria was required to pay $12.4 billion of its $30 billion debt stock in three tranches.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who was the minister of finance at that time, led the Nigerian delegation while Xavier Muscat, chairman of the Paris Club, led the 15-member club to sign the agreement.

The deal saw Nigeria exit the club completely after the final payment was made on April 21, 2006.

According to data released by the Debt Management Office, Nigeria’s external debt stood at $21.6 billion as at September 30.

Speaking on the federal government’s plan to raise more revenue through value-added tax, Emefiele said the committee was of the view that it would help reduce pressure on government expenditure.

“The committee also noted the attempts by the government to broaden the base of the Value Added Tax and urge the authorities to expedite action in that effect, arguing that increased tax collection will reduce pressure on government expenditure and create fiscal buffers to improve macroeconomic management,” he said.

The monetary policy rate was retained at 14% while the Cash Reserves Ratio was maintained at 22.5%.

Liquidity ratio was left at 30% and the Asymmetric Window was left at +200 and -500 basis points around the MPR.

Nairaland / General / Drama As Bribe-seeking SARS Men Keep Lagos Businessman In Toilet by Pstcozzy: 9:17am On Apr 10, 2018
A businessman, Immanuel Ibe-Anyanwu, created a sensation on Monday after calling for help on Facebook while in the toilet of a Zenith Bank branch at Ago Palace-Way, Okota, Lagos State.

Ibe-Anyanwu claimed that some operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad were waiting outside the bank to extort money from him.

The 37-year-old, in the post, claimed that the policemen had seized his company documents.

While urging his friends and other readers to share the post, he said his phone battery was running low.

The post had been shared by over 400 social media users in five hours, as many Nigerians rallied support for him.

The victim, who later spoke to PUNCH Metro on the telephone, said he stayed in the toilet for over two hours.

He claimed that the operatives, who waited patiently for him, later removed the number plate of his car in a desperate bid to extort money from him.

Narrating his ordeal, he said, “I was coming out of the banking hall after a transaction around 2pm on Monday when a man in mufti approached me. He said he was a policeman. I asked for his ID card, which he showed me. He told me to follow him to where their vehicle was parked.

“They were seven in number in a mini-bus. They were all armed, except the driver. Immediately we got there, he told his colleagues that I was trying to snatch his ID card from him. I was shocked. I wanted to explain, but they asked me to shut up.

“They went through my company documents. They saw that the address of my company was at Ikoyi and asked what I was doing at Okota. I told them that I came for a banking transaction. They asked why I didn’t do it at Ikoyi and I replied that I lived in Okota and that I left my house late and wanted to do the transaction before going to the office.
“They asked what we do in my company and I told them. They asked what I was doing before I opened the company. They said I should open my car for a search. which they did; they didn’t find anything there. They said I should enter their vehicle so that I could take them to my office at Ikoyi to confirm that I worked there. They said they know the street, but they don’t know my company.”

The victim said he suggested that they meet with his landlady or speak with his office workers on the telephone, but the policemen refused.

He noted that he called the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Chike Oti, who asked to speak with the operatives.

Ibe-Anyanwu said after he handed over the phone to the officials, they cut off the call and seized the phone.

He explained that a resident later mediated and asked the policemen to release him.
“They said because of the man that begged for me they would release me. They called me aside and asked me to arrange some money for them. I told them that I needed my phone to arrange the money. They returned my phone.

“I went into the bank and sneaked into the toilet where I wrote the Facebook post. I called the police spokesperson again to inform him that they had just released my phone and were demanding money. He told me not to give them anything. He said he had mobilised some officers and they were coming to rescue me.

“I was in the toilet till 4pm and thought by then they would have left; but they stayed. Later, the bank workers asked me to leave their premises. By then, my phone battery was flat and I could not call anybody. By the time I peeped outside, I saw they had removed my car’s number plate,” he added.

The businessman said he had “swiftly” entered the car and turned on the ignition to leave the premises when the policemen surfaced and blocked his path with their vehicle.

He explained that he refused their call to wind down the glass, adding that a crowd gathered around the scene.

Ibe-Anyanwu said the policemen dropped his number plate and drove out to wait for him outside the bank.

“The bank asked me to leave their premises. I was confused. I decided to risk it and speed out. That was how I escaped. Although I can recognise them, they don’t have any name tag. They only had their crested guns with SARS jacket,” he added.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Oti, in a statement, said the policemen had been identified.

He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, had ordered their arrest and trial.

He said, “On sighting the X-Squad personnel of the command, the erring policemen hurriedly left the scene in a manner suggestive that they were on an illegal duty.

“The Lagos CP directed the Officer-in-Charge of the X-Squad Section to fish out the policemen within two hours. That directive was actualised with the identification of the policemen involved. They were led in that inglorious duty by one Inspector Jude Akhoyemta, attached to FSARS Ikeja. The CP has ordered their arrest and as soon as that is done, the public will be notified.”

Nairaland / General / Here's Chimamanda Adichie's Epic Clapback When Asked If Nigeria Has Bookshops by Pstcozzy: 4:02pm On Jan 27, 2018
Nigerian writer Chimamanda Adichie was asked during an interview in France if there were any bookshops in her country -- and her clapback was epic.

"I think it reflects very poorly on French people that you have to ask me that question," she responded.

The audience erupted in applause as the incredulous "Americanah," author added: "I think surely... I mean it's 2018," she said in the video of the event posted by French news channel Loopsider.

Adichie was the star guest at a global ideas event hosted by the French government called "La Nuit Des Idees" (A Night of Ideas).

Midway through the chat, she was asked if her books are read in Nigeria.

"You'll be shocked to know that they are, yes... They are read and studied, not just in Nigeria but across the continent of Africa," she said.

The interviewer then followed up by asking if there were bookshops in the country. The audience gasped and the visibly embarrassed journalist tried to back up, explaining that "not much is said about Nigeria in France."

"We speak very little about Nigeria in France, certainly not enough, and when we do it's about Boko Haram and the problems of violence and security," the interviewer said. "I would like to take advantage of your presence for us to talk about other things and things that we don't know about your country."

Many Nigerians on social media mistakenly thought the interviewer was asking if there were libraries in the country because of the use of the French word "librairie," which means bookstore.

Another posted that the interviewer made a "lazy and prejudiced insinuation."

One French commentator said the line of questioning was a "cocktail of racism and mediocrity" that was typical of French journalism.

Adichie later posted a response on her Facebook page defending the journalist Caroline Broue as "Intelligent, thoughtful and well prepared," during their wide-ranging conversation at the Quai d'Orsay in Paris.

She added that she was taken aback when the question was asked as it was "far below the intellectual register of her previous questions."

"I know now that she was trying to be ironic... it was a genuine, if flat, attempt at irony and I wish she would not be publicly pilloried," Adichie said.

The novelist also wrote in the same post: "To be asked to 'tell French people that you have bookshops in Nigeria because they don't know' is to cater to a wilfully retrograde idea - that Africa is so apart, so pathologically 'different,' that a non-African cannot make reasonable assumptions about life there."

Ahead of the event, the novelist had posted a picture of her meeting first lady Brigitte Macron in Paris on the steps of the Elysee Palace, the official residence of the French president.

Adichie is an award-winning author, humanist and feminist. Her TEDxEuston speech "We Should All Be Feminists" was turned into a book and given to every 16-year-old in Sweden. Beyoncé also sampled it in her "Lemonade" album.

Adichie's novel "Americanah" was also optioned by actress Lupita Nyong'o to make it into a film.

Nairaland / General / Talaq, The Powerful Word That Can Render A Muslim Wife Divorced Without Notice by Pstcozzy: 10:41am On Aug 22, 2017
Triple talaq: India's battle against three words that grant instant divorce
In India, Muslim men can divorce their wives by saying talaq three times
India's Supreme Court will rule on whether the practice is unconstitutional
(CNN) With just three words, Farha, a 30-year old woman from the northern Indian city of Jaipur, became a single mother of three young children.

Farha's husband instantly divorced her last year by saying "talaq, talaq, talaq" in a fit of anger after their 10-year-old daughter had asked him for five rupees (seven cents) to buy some firecrackers for a holiday celebration.

Triple talaq, as it is commonly called, is an ancient and controversial Islamic practice where a man divorces a woman by saying the word talaq, the Arabic word for divorce, three times. Sometimes, it's even delivered by phone or text message.

In theory, it should take three months to take effect. In practice, it is often instantaneous -- the woman forced out of the house with barely a moment's notice.

India, home to the second largest Muslim population in the world, is among the few that do not ban the practice. Other countries with majority Muslim populations like Pakistan and Indonesia have outlawed the practice for years.

Will it be banned?

Yet this could soon change -- a move that would be a victory for Farha and others like her.

The nation's highest legal advisory body, the Law Commission of India, put out a survey to Indian citizens in October 2016, asking about various ways to reform family laws and specifically whether or not to ban talaq.

India's Supreme Court plans to constitute a 5-judge bench to rule on the issue of whether talaq and other practices are un constitutional. It has asked all of the involved parties to submit their evidence in support of their petitions by March 30.

"In a Muslim society which practices talaq, women have no existence," says Farha, who adheres to the local custom of only using one name. "A man can leave a woman at any time because of any issue."

Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan (BMMA) -- a network of Muslim women activists and organizations that operate in 15 states in the country -- is leading a nationwide campaign against talaq.

Its headquarters in Jaipur -- known to tourists as India's Pink City -- is located in a dilapidated building in one of the city's back alleys, which stand in sharp contrast to the decorated rose sandstone for which the city is a famed. It's a one room office, barely six feet wide. Plastic chairs line both sides of the room. It is here that Farha came to seek help.

They have long worked with women like Farha who have been abandoned by their husbands, by helping them file cases with the police or by providing basic necessities.

They aren't advocating the complete erasure of the practice from Islam, but argue that because of the way talaq has been practiced, women need some form of legal recourse when they currently have none.

'Monstrosity'

In the last few years, the campaign has picked up momentum.

In 2016, a judge in a state-level court called the practice a "monstrosity," going on to say that triple talaq "is a cruel and most demeaning form of divorce."

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke out against the practice saying India cannot allow the lives of Muslim women to be ruined by three words said on the phone.

Now, the BMMA is awaiting the decision of India's Supreme Court on its petition.

The group's co-founders, Zakia Soman and Noorjehan, who uses only one name, are hopeful of a ban against the practice which they call "un-Quranic."

According to the Quran, a man must consider the decision for a period of four months after he initially declares talaq, Soman explains. It is only at the end of this period can the divorce be finalized. Islamic law also provides for the presence of an arbitrator if there are problems during the process.

But Soman herself knows that reality often is quite different from theory. Her husband left her immediately after saying the words one day almost 15 years ago.

Pushback

Not everyone, however, is in favor of banning triple talaq.

India's diverse communities of multiple faiths each have their own laws for marriage, divorce and inheritance — matters deemed "personal law." Various politicians have proposed an overarching secular law called the Uniform Civil Code which would replace religious laws.

For some Muslim religious leaders, the fact that India's current government — led by a Hindu nationalist party — is in favor of a Uniform Civil Code is a source of concern.

"It is our fundamental given in the constitution, right to abide by our personal laws, you cannot snatch our right from us," said Mohammad Jafar, a life member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, the legal organization opposing BMMA's petition filed in the Supreme Court.

Jafar recognizes that it is a problem when some men give divorce instantaneously. The solution, he says, is education for these men, as they have done something not permissible in Islam.

"As a Muslim, one has to follow the rules of marriage and separation according to the Quran and Sunnah, the teachings of Mohammad, so we have to abide by it, and this right has been given in the Constitution, so why do they want to change it?" he said.

Still fighting

Soman and the BMMA, however, see the fight at hand as one for gender equality.

Farha, the single mother of three from Jaipur, now relies on the help of her parents to feed and support her children.

She stays in the upper floor of the same house that she lived in when she was married. Her husband lives below. A housewife for years, Farha, does not have a job.

All she wants, she says, is for her children to be provided for.

For women like Farha, there are few legal resources that she can rely on after a man abandons her.

"The problem here is not religion, it's patriarchy masquerading as religion," Soman said.

Nairaland / General / Where Are The Exchange Rate Monitors That Used To Be In The Banking Halls by Pstcozzy: 11:50am On Jun 05, 2017
Where have all the bank exchange rates monitors gone?
There used to be a time in this country when you didn't need worry on who to ask the various exchange rates between the local currency (Naira) and other currencies (US$, CAD$, £ and €) as these rates were daily displayed in the banking hall via electronic monitors.

Though the rates varied from bank to bank, but one could easily tell then, that the difference in rates were substantially minimal and no bank could do you 'wayo' while transacting with them 'cos everything was in black and white on the screen.

Even then, the rates you see inside the banking halls, gives you an idea about the rates these same currencies would be sold for or bought at the black market, hence making your decisions as to who to patronise, easy, unlike now that you will first need to source the internet (oanda.com, xe.com, etc) for exchange rate, thereafter call your account officer from bank to bank and finally call an Alhaji, all in the bid of knowing what the exchange rate for that day is before finally comparing all to make a financial decision.

My question now is simple, where have the bank exchange rate monitors in our banking halls went?
Why aren't people talking about it be brought back?

Please guys, if you're knowledgeable in this subject matter, drop your ideas for us to learn.

Nairaland / General / How To Check If Your Car's Registration Number Is Valid by Pstcozzy: 11:44am On May 16, 2017
http://www.nvisng.org/NumberPlateVerification.aspx

I Think it's time we stop over focussing on this PDP/APC, PMB and the rest issues and start looking where our problem is. I believe our problem is in the institutions of this country. I don't want to mention that of police now its for another day. It was on the 14th day of March that I drove into one of the police station to obtain the new tinted glass permit, in the process, it was discovered that the plate number of my car is being used by another car. My first question is "How is it possible?" Because I obtained this number from FRSC with all documents intact. I never know the car is going to stay for 12 days in the station.
A file was quickly open and the car became an exhibit. Thank God the car was registered by a very high ranking officer of the FRSC whom was brought to the station. As the investigation was going on, it was discovered that some people were producing these fake and duplicate number plates and giving out to innocent and unsuspicious Nigerian ripping them off their hard earned money.
My question is, should we now go and buy this numbers at a shop in Alaba or at idumota instead of the federal government approved agencies? In the course of my research, I stumbled upon the number plate verification system online. I started verifying cars of friends, church members and even cars that I see on the road. A shocking revelation was made that OUT OF EVERY 10 CARS you see on the road with LAGOS and ABUJA number plates, that at least 4 is FAKE.
You can check your own now.
(1) Go to www.nvisng.org/numberplateverification.aspx
(2) Enter your number in the space provided. Eg "ABC863AP
(3) Click on verify button. Then an information will be displayed below the button. Because FRSC did not want the general public to see the full details of the registration, you will only see the name of your car and the date of registration.
Here are some samples:
1. This number plate has been produced by FRSC and assigned to Toyota highlander on 20/01/2015. If your car is Toyota highlander, then you are lucky its done. But if your car is for instance Toyota Camry and your verification shows the above message, then you are in as me. Solution is to go and re-register your car afresh.
2. This number plate has been produced by FRSC and assigned to Matrix however the vehicle is yet to be registered..... If your car is Matrix, then just go back to the person that registered your car and tell him/her to complete your registration.
3. This plate number has been produced by FRSC but yet to be assign to any vehicle. It means that they just gave you a number plate that is not even registered in their system. Solution is to go to them to register your car and upload your information.
4. An invalid/wrong number plate. Do I need to explain this, NO.
Verify your car first and sort yourself out with the FRSC before you even proceed to police for tinted permit cos if police are the one to find out, then you know what follows. Many innocent Nigerian are suffering now because of impunity in our institutions
Note: this verification is only applicable to the number plates with this formats ABC123AB not AB123 ABC.

Nairaland / General / How To Check If Your Car's Registration Number Is Valid by Pstcozzy: 11:34am On May 16, 2017
http://www.nvisng.org/NumberPlateVerification.aspx

Please guys really need advice here.

Pstcozzy:
Greetings to the good ad intelligent people of this forum.
I am putting my documents together to apply for a student visa.
I need clarification as well as advice on the following.

1. What's the differences between the letter to the high commissioner and SOP, do I need to write the two, should they be addressed the same way?

2. I'm a bsc holder in ICT field, i applied for a masters degree but was unsuccessful at the end.
Then i applied and got admission to do
two professional program both in the same college In Toronto (Network System Administrator Prgm and the second is Child and Youth Service Program).
Both for d duration of one year.
Which of the two programs should I use to apply for the visa, I would have luv to change career, my reason for applying for the second prgm.

3. Does my sponsor ( my eldest bro) need to swear any affidavit to add to the sponsor letter he's giving me, cos I heard a friend of mine saying she submitted for hers?

4. Do I need to submit tax certificate or its just my sponsor that will submit his own?

5. I'm working in a private firm and I wasn't given any employment letter, how do I go about this cos I understand I'm to submit one and my boss pays by hand via envelope.

6. Please I need access to IMM 5257 Visa form and IMM 1294 Study permit form as I could not download them online. (You can request for my mail to send it to if you have it, thanks).

Please guys, I'm working towards next week Friday to submit my application.

Thanks.
