Sports / Re: My Son Lost Olympics Gold To Racism, Says Chukwumerije by rachie(f): 4:51pm On Aug 27, 2008
The judges can and do make mistakes. This lady had the GB team to put in a strong appeal for her. Maybe this guy didn't have the same kind of support i don't know.

Maybe they made a mistake in this guys case as well i don't know as i wasn't watching it. There have been a few cases this year where people have been complaining of unfair judging. I shouldn't laugh but i can see why maybe why that Cuban guy who kicked the ref was so angry now if he felt that the decision was unfair.
There is going to be some changes to how Tawkwondo is judged in the future.

Culture / Re: Gay Culture Gains Ground On Nigerian Varsity Campuses by rachie(f): 11:23am On Aug 27, 2008
There seems to be a number of gay topics on this board and i don't really like it.
I don't hate gays but i don't want to see this thing spreading or become so acceptable in Nigeria like it is in the UK or the US.

I think most people posting on this board live abroad.

If your aunt was in Nigeria the robbers she "caught" would probably have assaulted her brutally.

The funding and proper support just is not there.
http://www.athleticsafrica.com/Outgoing/africandrain_FS_1907.html

Top athletes in the UK now receive money from the national lottery and it has helped to improve these athletes performance at the Olympic games this year.

I mentioned this in another post but there should be a sports fund that people can donate to. Of course it would be a concern of mine that the money might not get to who needs to but it if something like this was properly funded i would gladly donate.

The Jamaican athletes don't have it easy either. Usain Bolt said on TV that at times it has been really difficult for him money wise.

These are supposedly the secrets to the Jamaicans success on the track.

No Nigeria did not do well but countries like SA and Ghana did even worse lol. I would love to see Nigeria up there one day.

I read the first few pages and the last few pages of this thread but i cannot read all of it.

I will say that some people are acting like there is no crime in the UK or the US.  I even know someone that was murdered in the UK. I also know people who been robbed and had their houses burgled as well.
I have also been scammed but not  by a Nigerian person but by a English man.

As for the air not being clean in Nigeria are some of the people here even serious? The air in the UK and the US is well known for being not great.

I don't think that there was anything wrong with what Fashola suggested you can either take it or leave it.

Me well i was born and raised in the UK i am Nigerian British and my parents came to the UK about 40 years ago now and have lived here for way over the majority of their life. We still go back to Nigeria from time to time and I can maybe see my parents going back eventually. I have been to Nigeria three times and the last time that i was in Nigeria was at the beginning of this year. Unfortunately i did catch malaria this time round but that still would not put me of from living in the country if i wanted to.

Nigeria is developing with or without the help from people in the diaspora. I would like Nigeria to keep on going forward and to work on some problems like the electricity situation. Of course each country has it negative and good points but i actually do prefer the way of life is in Nigeria.

I think in the future that i will be most likely to go between both countries back and forth.
Sports / Re: Nigeria Wins 2 Bronze Medals So Far At The Olympics: by rachie(f): 12:35pm On Aug 25, 2008
No Nigerian won 1 Silver and 3 Bronze medals. Bronze medals were won in the boxing, long jump and in the women's relay. Of course the silver medal was picked up in football as well. Overall Nigeria finished in 61st place. I was surprised that South Africa only picked up one medal.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/medals_table/
Nigeria need to turn things around and invest more and support their athletes more or more and more athletes will go overseas to country like Quatar and Baharin to represent them.
Sports / Re: This Is The Olympic Story We Never Heard by rachie(f): 12:07pm On Aug 25, 2008
It is a good story but 32 secs for 200m isn't that like pretty slow lol. I pretty sure that i wouldn't be to far of that pace and i am not a professional athlete.

That story is not my favourite story from the games though.
Sports / Re: China Vs Usa In 2008 Olympics by rachie(f): 11:46am On Aug 25, 2008
China won.

As for the age of the gymnasts it appears like the Chinese are in the clear and it was mainly just sour grapes on the US part that was all mainly drummed up by Bela Karolyi. These gymnasts do look younger than their age but i always gave them the benefit of the doubt as nothing had been proven.

Sports / Re: Beijing 2008 Olympics - Athletics by rachie(f): 10:37am On Aug 25, 2008
Onyinye2 i have never ever read such pro American stuff from an African.

Anyway the USA at least won the 2 400m relay races at the end. The Jamaican born Sanya Richards helped them to victory and they could not have done it without her.

China won overall it is not the total medal count that the rest of the world go by. The rest of the world go by the total of Gold medals won so USA was 2nd to China.

Nigeria need to improve the athletes need more support. I wouldn't mind donating to a sports trust but with corruption and everything that puts me of. Is there even a fund like that out there?

Jamaica did so well it is amazing with what they achieved.
