The five-man shortlist for the BBC African Footballer of
the Year 2014 has been revealed.

consecutive year, along with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,
Yacine Brahimi, Vincent Enyeama and Gervinho.
The winner will be decided by fans of African football, who
have until 18:00 GMT on Monday, 24 November to vote
for their choice.
You can vote online here.
Or to vote for BBC African Footballer of the Year 2014 by
SMS, text the number of the player you wish to vote for to

Text 1 for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Text 2 for Yacine Brahimi
Text 3 for Vincent Enyeama
Text 4 for Gervinho
Text 5 for Yaya Toure
Standard international text rates apply. Please check with
your service provider. SMS votes are limited to one vote
per mobile phone number. Terms and conditions apply.
The winner will be announced on Monday, 1 December.
Four of the nominees played at this summer's World Cup
in Brazil, where for the first time in the tournament's
history two African sides made it out of the group phase.
Goalkeeper Enyeama played in the last 16 of the
tournament with Nigeria, while Brahimi reached the same
stage with Algeria.
Enyeama, 32, went into the event off the back of an
outstanding campaign for French club Lille - he kept 21
clean sheets for them last season.
In Spain, forward Brahimi's efforts for Granada led to him
being named best African player in the country last term
and earning a move to Porto.
Both players carried their excellent club form into the
showpiece finals and caught the eye with superb
performances - as did Ivory Coast forward Gervinho.
The Roma player has been a revelation in Italy since
leaving English Premier League side Arsenal, scoring 10
goals in 39 games for the Serie A side.
He and his compatriot Toure did not make it out of their
group in Brazil, but on a personal note both have enjoyed
impressive seasons.
Midfielder Toure helped guide Manchester City to their
second Premier League title in three years. He also won
the Capital One Cup.
Although striker Aubameyang did not play at Brazil 2014 -
because Gabon did not qualify - he makes the shortlist for
the second year in a row thanks to his club form.
The 25-year-old has settled in his second season with
German side Borussia Dortmund and his improvement has
been particularly noticeable in the Champions League,
where he has already scored three times in the current
campaign.

Literature / Man Know Thyself by RandomBlad: 8:39am On Oct 02, 2014
Man know thyself
An unexamined life is not worth living"
The famous words of Socrates
To unravel the mystery in that mantra
Self-circumspection is the most obtrusive idea
And self-check becomes the inevitable
Many do not know themselves
Many do not know their seasons
Most do not know their raison d' entre
For when a man knows himself
He is meticulous and careful
And comfortably averts trouble and upheavals
For when a man knows
He is not fecund in money handling
He shall never accept a secretary role
And when a man knows he is not handy in
communication
He shall turn down the oratory role
For self-circumspection annihilates embarrassment
And assuages vituperations and vitriol
For when a man knows not himself He knows not his
purpose and
He knows not his area of potency
For when a man knows not himself He knows not his
Achilles-heel
Or the chink in his armour
For when a man knows not himself He knows not how
many arrows he has in his quiver
And he knows not how much gas he has in his vehicle of
life
For when a man is ignorant of himself
He knows not when to articulate , and when to
'meticulate'
Man know thyself
Man know thy season
Man know thy strength
For when a man knows himself
He knows when to work and when to play
And when to plant and to harvest
A man who knows himself cannot be held by the lasso of
ignorance or ensnared by the noose of failure
For self-circumspection aggrandizes aptness,mitigates
shock and adhocracy
And pulverizes complacency and cocksureness
Man know thyself
Man know thy heyday
Man know thy lacuna
Man know thy hiatus
Man know thy area of knack, dexterity, and
Immaculateness
Man know thy area of ineptitude, impotency and
'talentlessness'
For when a man knows himself
He knows when to be parsimonious and altruistic
niggardly or generous
when to be frugal and a blind giver
or when to be penurious and exorbitant
For a man who knows himself
Has little or no regrets
For his life is planned and endorsed
By the Master
A man who self-circumspect's listens to the voice
beneath and acts with precision
For a man who knows himself
Seldom Dillydallies
For when a man knows himself
He knows just what to do
When to operate visibly or surreptitiously
over the radar or below the radar
When to pray or play
And when to read and sleep
Man know thyself
An unexamined life is not worth living!!!

Politics / Anarchy In The Igbo Nation by RandomBlad: 7:22am On Sep 22, 2014
I have been looking and thinking. I look because I was
divinely ordained to serve as seer. I think because things
like insight, intuition and doubt are co-workers in divine
vineyard. They work together for good as supernatural
kit. I have been looking at things through eyes of divinity,
and most of the things I see are down-right ironies.
Truth is that things like irony and paradox are ruling
supremely in Africa. They are enthroned in both minds
and nations, and it is evident that Biafra and Nigeria are
among the worst victims. They are subjected under an
evil king (tyrant) known as irony in a fantastic state
called limbo.
I went to the wise years ago to have my usual dealings
with wisdom. They told me that Biafra is great land of the
wise, and that the people (Biafrans) are gems and wizs,
great people of renown. I opened my eyes and looked in
wisdom. Guess what I saw! Rare diamonds everywhere
in Biafra! That was what I saw when I looked .
I went for confirmation, and intuition told me that Biafra
is full of best choices and brains. But when I turned and
looked in reality, what I saw were like wise fools and
benighted lions living and misbehaving in shadows of
pretense. Some were sheepish and some were wild in
darkness. Why
I asked myself why because there are still many things
that makes me wonder in Biafra. One of them is a
popular saying, a generally accepted belief in Igboland of
Biafra. What is the saying? If you don't know go to elders
of Igboland and ask. They will whisper it to you cynically
in Igbo Language: "Igbo enweyi eze!" Meaning! I mean
what does it mean? If you do not know go to the people
and ask. They will explain it frantically to you because
they generally believe that Igbo people are not meant to
have any person as their king on earth. This is great
irony, isn't it?
I said that I have been looking and thinking. I have also
written an article previously in this regards. The title is
"IRONY IS GOING!" My question here is very simple.
Why on earth should a people has no king?
I returned to the wise to know why. They told me that
irony is king in limbo and that a kind is head. They
equally explained it wisely saying that both man and
nation are dead without head. "One is dead when one is
beheaded," said the wise.
What I am saying in essence is that wisdom and intuition
told me that Igbo is dead because Igbo people has no
head. Barr. Ralph Uwazurike was formally crowned to
serve as king of Igboland. But Igbo people turned and
rejected him as their head. That was why I wrote an
article titled "UWAZURIKE & VACANT THRONE".
The truth here is very simple and conspicuous.
Everybody knows it. What is truth? If you do not know go
to wise and pay heed. They will tell you that Igbo is dead
because Igbo has no head. This means that Igbo people
are living like ghosts in limbo. That is why majority of
wise men in Igboland are like fools in reality.
Biafrans are gems and wizards in their minds only. It
implies that liberation of Biafra may end up in fantasy
world because gems and wizards exist in mind only.
Igbo people cannot liberate Biafra if irony remains their
king. They need real head to liberate Biafra in real life. I
am sure I have not spoken in tongues here. My question
is who is our leader in the struggle? Who does the cap
fit?
Bible said, "Buy the truth and sell it not." If we do not
know where to buy the truth, come to me and ask! I will
tell us that Ralph Uwazurike needs our backing, and our
backing is the money to buy the truth.

Politics / TAN: The Sensibility Of Nigerian Youths Has Been Insulted by RandomBlad: 12:06am On Sep 13, 2014
The sensibility of Nigerians has been insulted
Few months ago, A non-governmental organization
under the aegis of Transformation Ambassadors of
Nigeria (TAN) circulated a message all over the internet
urging youths to register their bio-data for job
opportunities through TAN. Millions of Nigerians,
employed and unemployed, rushed into cyber café’s to
pay through their nose to purchase network-browsing
time while those who have smart phones and other ICT
gadgets with subscriptions made do with it and
registered duely and happily. Nigerians were asked to fill
in their phone numbers, permanent home address, local
government areas among other sensitive information.
Few weeks later, TAN began an endorsement rally in
support of President Jonathan’s re-election bid
throughout the various geo-political zones in Nigeria. To
the dismay of Nigerians, the bio-data which they naively
gave to TAN with the expectation that they would be
provided jobs were carefully collated and presented at
the various TAN rallies to the representatives of
President Jonathan, the Secretary to the Federal
government, Chief Anyim Pius Anyim, as the Nigerians
who are happy with the President’s transformation
agenda in the creation of jobs, good healthcare delivery
system, improved national security e.t.c and have
happily and willingly endorsed President Jonathan for
another term of office come 2015
The use of bio-data of young Nigerians to score cheap,
shameless and ridiculous political points without their
consent is not only criminal and offensive but it is
unfortunate and an insult on the sensibility of these
young Nigerians, it is an embarrassment to this country
and its image as it is a dent not only the credibility of the
conveners of TAN but also on the presidency. The
youths of this country should not be cowed or tricked
into endorsing President Jonathan for another term in
office, TAN should have come out open and allow these
young Nigerians to freely express their opinions on
whether they wish to do so or not. Nigerian youths have
been taken for a ride and for fools. TAN should as a
matter of urgency render and unreserved apology in all
the National dailies, National Radio Stations and
Television stations to Nigerians on their heinous crime
and atrocity against the people.
Failure to do this would be met with legal consequences,
as various youths fora would have no other choice than
to proceed to a law court for a legal battle. The sensibility
of any people have never being this insulted in the
history of the existence of this country.. if you can’t help
us out of unemployment, poverty and poor standard of
living imposed on us by corruption and lack of ideas of
our leaders. At least, don’t insult us or take us for fools….
enough is enough
