President Muhammadu Buhari has waded into the clash between the Senate and the Police Service Commission (PSC) over the recruitment of 10,000 personnel into the police force, Daily Trust has gathered.

The Senate had week ago wrote the PSC, demanding the suspension of the recruitment over alleged irregularity in the exercise.

It was gathered that the Senate demanded the suspension over the criteria adopted by the PSC for the selection of the personnel.

Source told our correspondent that while the Senate said the selection should be based on local government areas, the PSC insisted that it must be done on the basis of equality, per state.

Speaking to our correspondent, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Police, Senator Abu Ibrahim (APC, Katsina South) confirmed that President Buhari has waded into the clash.

“We want the selection to be based on local government because of community policing. For the rank and file, we said 9 persons be selected per local government while for the officers, we said it should be based on state.

“It is not truth that we want to take over the police recruitment. How can we do that? All we are saying is that the selection of personnel from Inspectors downward be based on Local Government to advance community policing in this country. It is only through it that we can police the country effectively, "he said.

He said a final decision would be taken next week when President Buhari arrives from a foreign trip.

“President Buhari has waded into it. A final decision would be taken next week, "he said.
