Martinez39s:
In Maths, you don't just make assumptions without proof and present them as solutions. Even by mere intuitive geometric consideration, |OF| cannot equal |ON|. If |OF| = |ON|, then the circle centred at O would touch F. |ON| is the radius of the circle centred at O, how then is |OF|, which is clearly bigger that the radius of the circle centred at O, equal to |ON|?

MrShape.
You are absolutely correct on the point u made dat the shaded circle is not really inscribed in the semi-circle and so the shaded circle cannot have its center where OF and ON become equal and that automatically OF and ON cannot be 14cm. It escaped my notice. Thumbs up! So d search for d solution continues, Mr Shape!

Yes.
Because no proof that |OF|=|ON|
The absence of proof is not necessarily a proof of absence. What is ur own evidence dat OF is not equal to ON? Should I just accept it because Mr Shape said so?

what 14? Can u specify how using d 14 is incorrect?

Using some construction and a bit of pythagoras stuff, i got 8.65cm as the radius of d shaded circle. The area of the shaded circle would be 3.142 * 8.65 * 8.65 = 235.09cm sq. to 2 d.p
Education / Re: Great Benefits Of Charcoal You May Never Have Known. by Rezos017: 4:20pm On Jul 26, 2019
PhenomenalMorgan:

Activated charcoal is charcoal that has been treated by heat or chemical substances or both, so that its surface area increases and it is able to adsorb substances like dirt or toxins.
There are many styles of producing it but a popular method is to dip grounded charcoal in a Calcium Chloride solution for some time followed by heating and drying. This process "activates" the charcoal and opens up pores in its surface so it can better adsorb dirt in the teeth, drinking water or toxins in the stomach..
Good information. Thanks

Anoniemos01:

Normal charcoal is wood or any carbon material that has been burnt the normal way—black charred..
Activated charcoal is any 'charcoal' heated in the presence of a gas or chemical that will allow the charcoal obtain more tiny holes or pores in order to serve as an effective adsorbent — by absorbing poisonous gases and stuff when used.
Though all normal charcoals have to a certain extent an adsorbing power(ability to stuck-in gases), the greatest of them all is the activated charcoal and it is for this reason that it is used for whitening the teeth(as it is believed to adsorb poisonous substances) but the actual fact is that many claims of its uses haven't been verified..

Besides, activated charcoal has it side-effects too—especially when ingested so, I think it'll do everyone some good to know that charcoal or whatever shouldn't just be ingested anyhow.
Thanks for the effort to explain. The original post is very educative and constructive comments that enlighten readers like the one quoted above are most welcome.

Its only ACTIVATED CHARCOAL that can be used for what the OP mentioned... Normal charcoal cannot!!
Please kindly explain the difference(s) between "activated" charcoal and "normal" charcoal

At natural waves:
I was trying to correct a wrong idea u had: the tower is north of D, meaning directly in front of D. But its not the whole tower that is at an angle of elevation of 35degrees from D. Its just the top of the tower, ie point B. Its clearly detailed in the second diagram. You seem good at basic maths. You can see the difference

naturalwaves:

Yes, I know
Sure.

This is not possible bro because the tower is due North of point D and as such cannot be 35 degrees. When one point is due north of another, it has ot be straight up and cannot make an angle of 35 degrees.
The tower is north of point D, ie directly in front of D. It is not the whole tower that is at an angle of elevation of 35 degrees from point D. It is the top of the tower(point B) that is at an angle of elevation from D. You seem smart at Maths and should be able to understand the difference with ease
The only mistake you are making is that you did not think about the fact that the top of the tower was the initial reference point. I have attached some diagrams on the first page. Check them out

Notice the correction: the angle of elevation of the top of the tower B from point D (not point C in the previous diagrams) is 35 degrees

Bro, in your diagram, C,A,D are not on the same horizontal plane.
From the perspective of the diagram, the tower as well as points C and D are all on same horizontal ground

This is still wrong bro. What angle is supposed to be made by a point due East of another point?
It isn't merely one point that is due East of another(read the question again). It is the tower that is due east of point C, ie on the right side of C. The angle of elevation of the top of the tower B from point D is 35 degrees. I have pointed out that little mistake in d diagram. I"l post another one to show the correction. From the perspective of the diagram, points C and D as well as the tower itself are all on the same horizontal ground.

Oops! A little mistake in the diagram! The 35degrees should be at D not C. Except for that, everything else fits the question
Education / Re: For More Than 4 Years Now Sec Sch Students Have Been Finding The Diagram To This by Rezos017: 1:07pm On Jun 12, 2019
There you have it. Virtually every detail of the question is captured in the diagram. It makes comprehension and calculating much easier.

The problem is not the diagram. The question is even grammatically wrong. The first sentence is so wrong. There is a difference between "at" and "as". [/quote
Change "at" to "as", and you still wont get the diagram in two dimensions. Its three dimensional. Its a simple but slightly confusing diagram. Ive got it here. Still trying to upload it
Education / Re: For More Than 4 Years Now Sec Sch Students Have Been Finding The Diagram To This by Rezos017: 10:15am On Jun 12, 2019
Most bright students, even a huge percent of maths teachers, would still struggle to come up with a diagram that captures this question. Its not the solution that's difficult; its the diagram. Most times, students are taught only two dimensional bearing problems, but three dimensional problems like the one in the post are completely ignored.
