Tragedy struck Tuersday when the former President of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Festus Iyayi, was killed in a ghastly motor accident.
The former ASUU president was said to be on his way to Kano with three other members of ASUU, University of Benin chapter, when the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a police escort vehicle in the convoy of the Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada, around Lokoja, the state capital.
Following the impact, the vehicle was knocked off the road and somersaulted three times, killing the professor of Business Administration instantly.
The unfortunate incident happened at Banda village yesterday when the governor was returning from an official engagement in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
In a statement by Jacob Edi, Special Adviser to the Governor, Media, the Kogi State Government said the convoy was moving at 80 kilometers per hour when a bus collided with the escort vehicle.
The condition of Iyayi’s three other colleagues was also described as critical at press time yesterday, as they were said to be in a coma.
The statement added that at least six victims with varying degrees of injuries from both sides are currently hospitalised,
Edi said Wada ordered a full-scale investigation into the accident, when he paid a visit to the injured.
An ambulance was said to have been dispatched from Benin to Kogi State to convey Iyayi's body to Benin.
Iyayi was part of the ASUU negotiating team, which met with the federal government last week, and was travelling to Kano in continuation of efforts to resolve the logjam that had ensued over the strike with his colleagues, before his death.
His death yesterday threw ASUU and the University of Benin community into mourning.
Reacting to Iyayi's death yesterday, President Goodluck Jonathan commiserated with the leadership and members of ASUU over his tragic death.

However, scenes of looting on Saturday at a store belonging to the occupied electronics chain, Daka, have left many Venezuelans ashamed and fueled opposition claims that Maduro is stirring chaos rather than defending the poor.
Authorities announced that five managers, from the local Daka, JVG and Krash companies, would be prosecuted on charges of unjustified price increases after importing products with dollars obtained at the official exchange rate of 6.3 bolivars.

Mrs. Augustina Douglas-Ayam, elder sister to the Senior Adviser to the President on Research, Documentation and Strategy, Mr. Oronto Douglas, has been released by her kidnappers.
Augusta was released after nine days of captivity, on Thursday night.
It could not be ascertained if any ransom was paid. However, a family source, who preferred anonymity, said Augusta was released on a humanitarian grounds.
He said that the family did not pay any ransom before she (Augusta) was released by her captors.
A statement by the family signed by Mr. Romeo Douglas read in part, “After nine traumatic days in the hands of abductors, our beloved sister Augusta-Ayam was unconditionally released to the family.
“We thank God for her protection and intervention. We also thank all Nigerians who through prayers and words of encouragement supported us throughout this ordeal.
“Our sister is currently in hospital receiving treatment. We will not be making further statements on this issue and we wish to put it behind us.”
Augusta was seized and whisked away to an unknown destination in the creeks, by nine gunmen who were dressed in military fatigue on October 15.
The kidnappers, after keeping mum for about four days, eventually contacted the woman’s husband last Thursday and asked for a whooping N500m.
After failing to reach the Presidential adviser, the bandits had to slash their initial N500m ransom to N17m on Friday.
But when it became obvious that even the N17m was unattainable, they reduced the ransom to N10m.
However Augusta’s husband, Mr. Aziayam Apaga, had allegedly pleaded with the kidnappers to reduce the ransom to N3m, insisting that that was what the family could afford.

ChopUrMoni: Have you ever played hide and seek? If you have, then you know that once the person has been found by the finder its not the end of the game. The person found must run and the finder would have to pursue until they have caught them. Then and only then is the the game over.

I have noticed a trend among a lot of men. They have become so lazy that they do not bother chasing the girl they love. The saying "ah... its just a girl, they are many more out there" and "she's playing hard to get, i cant be bothered and she's not the only beautiful girl out there anyway" have become so popular among men especially black men.

What happened to the value of chasing a woman? Why has it become so worthless and looked down upon. Would men of today have survived many years ago. Men in those days didn't complain when they pursued the girl they loved, in many cases suffered in the hands of the girls family and then paid a massive amount to have her as his wife. Today it's a lot easier yet men are not willing or should I say are too lazy to pursue the woman of their dreams. Oh i forgot... there are too many fishes in sea. Why bother right?

Men, we love to be pursued and conquered by you. Why do you all think the stories of Cinderella, Snow white, Rapunzel and the like are so loved by girls? They all had one thing in common. A prince who not only found them but also fought for them. Trust me we love to be chased and caught by you.

If you are not serious with the girl then don't bother. But, if you do love her don't allow you friends to push you to get over her after she has rejected you twice. Try a little harder than twice. I noticed white guys have always chased me fervently. But when it comes to black men, even though they profess to loving me so deeply they don't bother if i don't respond to them after a specific time. If any race of man on earth should know how to pursue a woman fervently until he captures her it should be a black man because thats what you fathers and grand fathers did. It's in your DNA So now, what are you waiting for? Get started!
