THE Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) warned, on Wednesday, that the attacks on Christian worshippers by the Boko Haram sect in Kaduna and the reprisals on innocent Muslims may mark the beginning of violent break-up of Nigeria as it happened in Yugoslavia.

PENGASSAN declared in a statement entitled: “The road to Yugoslavia,” that the development represents a dangerous descent into anomie, reminiscent of the horrific inter-ethnic and religious war that marked the violent break-up of the former Yugoslavia.

PENGASSAN said it would not hesitate to call out its members, starting from its Kaduna zone, if government continues by its inaction to imperil the lives and limbs of Nigerians, particularly those residing in the northern part of the country.

In the statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade ‘Deji Kolawole, PENGASSAN said: “The attacks on Christian worshippers in Kaduna and Zaria last Sunday, claimed by the terrorist group, Boko Haram and the consequent reprisals on innocent Muslims, represent a dangerous descent into anomie, reminiscent of the horrific inter-ethnic and religious war that marked the violent break-up of the former Yugoslavia.”

But he added: “Nigeria cannot afford to take this road to self-destruction, for when the rich make war, it is the poor that suffer. We, therefore, appeal to Nigerians to exercise great restraint in the face of the constant provocation and violence perpetrated on other innocent Nigerians by terrorists under the hood of religionists whose aim is, obviously, to precipitate an ethnic cum religious war in the country. We must note that an eye for an eye would only make us all blind.”

The statement read: “The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) expresses grave concern on the deteriorating security situation in the country resulting in the loss of innocent lives and which has led, lately, to the declaration of a 24-hour curfew in two states — Kaduna and Yobe — with the attendant impact on the socio-economic lives of the citizens of those states and other neighbouring states.

“We further call on the Federal Government of Nigeria, which has all the coercive powers of state to wake up to its primary responsibility, i.e. the security and welfare of the people as enunciated in section 14 of the 1999 Constitution.

“We and indeed all Nigerians are tired of the president’s usual swan song of expressing heartfelt condolences, condemning the dastardly act and promising to bring perpetrators to book whenever attacks like these happen.”

Igbos must leave North —Uwazuruike
The leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike and prominent Igbo leaders have insisted that Igbos should evacuate the troubled North.

Uwazuruike, who is also the new Ezeigbo, noted that the renewed call for the evacuation of Ndigbo from the zone was premised on the growing insecurity, with Igbo Christians taking the highest casualty.

Speaking with newsmen by telephone, the MASSOB leader noted that the recent bombing of churches by the Boko Haram sect had exposed the inability of the security forces to tackle the current security challenges and guarantee the security of lives and properties of Nigerians.

Uwazurike, who chided the Joint Task Force (JTF) for withdrawing security from churches in Kaduna when they had intelligence report about an imminent attack, called on Igbos to abandon their businesses in the North and come back home until normalcy returned.

Debunking rumours of possible reprisals in the South-East, Uwazuruike maintained that MASSOB, as a non-violent organisa-tion, upheld the sanctity of life and would not engage in senseless killings and destructions that had become the hallmark of Boko Haram.

Also speaking, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, the Ogirishi Igbo, noted that the current crisis in the North was fast degenerating into a religious war that had defied military solution, stressing that security operatives could no longer guarantee the safety of Igbos in the North.

In a related development, Igbos living in Kano have expressed readiness to leave the troubled city, in compliance with the directive of the Igbo leaders, lamenting that they had been living in fear since the breakout of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Speaking with Nigerian Tribune, the president-general of Ndigbo living in Kano, Chief Leonard Nwosu, said despite the efforts of security operatives to restore peace and security, Igbos still lived in fear.

Boko Haram has declared war on Christians —CAN
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has reacted to Sunday’s attacks on three churches in Kaduna State, saying they were an indication that Boko Haram has declared war on Christians and Christianity in the country.

This is just as CAN in the North-Central declared that Boko Haram insurgence in the northern part had destroyed virtually all the good things the region was known for.

The CAN, in an advertisement placed on Wed-nesday and signed by Kenny Ashaka, special assistant, media and public affairs to its president, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, said the latest attacks in Kaduna and Yobe states suggested “a systematic religious cleansing which reminds Christians of the genesis of the jihad.”

While calling on President Goodluck Jonathan to act fast before the crisis got out of hand, CAN also called on the American government to quickly designate the Boko Haram sect as terrorist organisation.

Chairman, North-Central CAN, Reverend Yakubu Pam, while speaking with Nigerian Tribune, expressed disappointment over the level of destruction of both properties and human lives occasioned by the menace of the Boko Haram in recent times.

Pope wants end to terrorism in Nigeria
Pope Benedict SVI, in a statement released by the Vatican Information Service, has called for an end to the terror attacks against Christians in the country.

The pope appealed for an immediate end to the killing of many innocent people, while he also appealed to Nigerians to work together to end the violence.

JTF alerts to suicide bombing plan in Borno
The JTF in Borno State has alerted the people top the alleged plan by the Boko Haram to use stolen vehicles for suicide bomb attacks in the state.

Spokesman of the task force, Lieutenant-Colonel Sagir Musa, said members of the sect were on desperate moves to snatch vehicles to perpetrate bomb attacks.

He also said the JTF troops and personnel of the Department of State Services arrested six suspected Boko Haram men believed to be involved in the attack on EYN Church in Biu, on Sunday.

Bauchi suicide bomber died while receiving treatment —Police
The Bauchi State police command, on Wednesday, said a young man, suspected to be a suicide bomber, who was blown up on Tuesday when an improvised explosive device he was carrying exploded in Bauchi, had died while receiving treatment.

A release signed by the state PPRO, Idris Abuba-kar, said before his death, he confessed to being a member of the sect, adding that one revolver pistol and five rounds of ammunition were recovered from him.

We’ll bring perpetrators to book —Petinrin, Abubakar
The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin and the acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, in Kaduna, on Wednesday, said those hiding under religion to forment trouble would be brought to book.

The duo, after a closed door meeting with Governor Patrick Yakowa, assured residents and the government that security agencies would collaborate to ensure that normalcy returned to the state immediately.

However, calm is gradually returning to Kaduna after three days of tension, just as major streets within the metropolis have been deserted by residents who have been forced to remain indoors because of the 24-hour curfew imposed on them by the state government.

Fresh crisis erupts at Kiyama
Fresh crisis erupted at Kiyama, near Kaduna, on Wednesday, where allegedly armed Christian youths killed some Muslims in the area.
The crisis began where the youth allegedly tore the hijab of a Muslim lady in the Christian-dominated area.

The state PPRO, Aminu Lawan, said the situation was, however, under control.

Politics / Buhari Dares Jonathan: Arrest Me If You Can by roots: 8:29am On May 17, 2012
By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor
LAGOS—Against the background of alleged threats to arrest him on account of his predictions of a bloody response to any rigging of the 2015 elections, erstwhile military Head of State General Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, dared President Goodluck Jonathan to carry out the threat.

Responding to the condemnations from the Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to his assertion, Buhari said yesterday that only those now contemplating to rig the 2015 elections could have been afraid of the threat of a violent response.

While giving a robust defence of Buhari’s pan-Nigeria spirit, his party, the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC also chided President Jonathan for fixing his fellow Ijaws in prized national offices.

Support for Buhari also came yesterday from the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN which chided the administration for launching a personal attack on Buhari simply for giving a valid warning against election rigging.

*Buhari

The ACN said the attacks against Buhari were reflective of the determination of the ruling administration to use the instrument of power to return itself to power.

Buhari had stirred controversy while receiving a delegation of the CPC from Niger State on Monday.

Speaking in Hausa language while receiving a delegation of the CPC from Niger State, Buhari was quoted as referring to the Federal Government as the biggest Boko Haram. He was also quoted as saying: “God willing by 2015, something will happen. They either conduct a free and fair election or they go a very disgraceful way. If what happens in 2011 should again happen in 2015, by the grace of God, ‘the dog and the baboon would all be soaked in blood.’

Special Adviser to the President on Media, Dr. Reuben Abati in the presidency’s reaction said by his reference to the north in his speech, Buhari who is an elderstatesman has reduced himself to “a regional leader who speaks for only a part of Nigeria”.

Denouncing Buhari’s outbursts, the presidency and the PDP had described the former head of state as a serial election loser renowned for inciting his supporters to violence and a blood thirsty politician.

Galadima defends Buhari

But responding yesterday, Buhari speaking through his close political associate and national secretary of the CPC, Alhaji Buba Galadima dared the President to arrest him, saying that not even his master, General Olusegun Obasanjo dared to arrest him.

He said: “Let them go and pick him as their mentors are now advising them to. If Obasanjo cannot arrest Buhari, I want Jonathan to do it if he can try it because they are hiring people all over the North to be talking for them because they can pay them money.

“They are picking on the General because it is him they are afraid of and because once you take away rigging, they are gone; but they have forgotten that their master, Obasanjo was the first to talk of do or die, do or die means blood, if you don’t do what I want I will kill you, that is what he said.

“The issue is very simple, if you are not a thief why should you be afraid if they say whoever steals should be killed? That is why they are afraid.”

Galadima said that Buhari was not the first to have noted the existence of three Boko Harams in the country.

“General Buhari said he was quoting Prof. Ango Abdullahi who said that there are three Boko Harams, the original one, the one that is now perpetrated by criminals that are now raiding homes and markets and government itself. Was it not Jonathan who said that there are Boko Harams in his government,” Galadima asked yesterday.

He further gave a strong defence of General Buhari’s nationalistic spirit saying that Buhari as a soldier fought civil wars that arose from election rigging in the Congo and in Nigeria.

“Are you saying that somebody of Buhari’s stature cannot warn those in authority that there is no need for the country to go into this? Why are we mis-reading things? The man should be commended for having the courage to tell those in authrotiy that they should behave well.”

He also dared the administration to publish the contents of the Lemu Panel inquiry on post election violence which he claimed exonerated Buhari of culpability and rather blamed the administration.

“Why are they afraid to publish a white paper because it indicted them as having been responsible for the election violence. I dare them if they are honest people and I dare PDP if they are honest people, let them conduct a free and fair election and let’s see whether they will win one councillor.”

We stand by what Buhari said — CPC

The CPC in a statement also flayed the Jonathan administration for perpetuating an ethnic agenda separate from what it said was the nationalistic thrust of Buhari while in power.

In the statement issued by the party’s national publicity secretary, Engr. Rotimi Fashakin, the party said: “As Head of State, his Oil Minister was Professor Tam David-West, a Kalabari man in Rivers State. As a Leader, he created the ambience for his ministers to work unobtrusively and devoid of executive meddlesomeness. But what do we find with Dr Goodluck Jonathan? All the appointees as oil ministers in his two-year reign thus far as President of Nigeria have been Nigerians of Ijaw extraction, like himself!

“Second, on October 1, 2010, there was a bomb blast during the year’s independence anniversary celebrations, with attendant deaths of many Nigerians. Without waiting for any preliminary report from the Security Agencies, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, as President, told a traumatized Nation, “it is not MEND!

“Third, so far as President of Nigeria, Dr Good-luck Jonathan has shown very generous affinity for Nigerians of Ijaw stock in terms of appointments and promotions in the Federal Public sector. There is a marked lopsidedness that smacks of clannishness and ethnocentrism by the President!

“On Corruption and sleazy tendency, the Jonathan administration transcends all others before it! Nigerians are still befuddled by the impeachable show of arbitrariness by the regime in expending N2.67Trillion on fuel subsidy instead of the appropriated N240Billion in the 2011 appropriation act. As expected, the regime has attempted all manner of subterfuge to give Executive cover for the indicted people in the scam.

On Boko Haram, the party said:

“In January 2012, Dr Good-luck Jonathan told a bewildered nation, still smarting from murderous Bombings, that his government has been infiltrated by Boko Haram. In February 2012, a serving PDP senator from Borno South (Mohammed Ali Ndume) was arrested for being a member of Boko Haram.

In March 2012, Ndume deposed to an affidavit before a Federal High Court wherein he stated that Vice-President Namadi Sambo was aware of his activities with Boko Haram. In April 2012, General Andrew Owoeye Azazi , the National Security Adviser, averred that there was indisputable proof that Boko Haram is PDP. As things stand, President Jonathan is the national leader of PDP.”

ACN denounces crude attacks on Buhari

The ACN also condemning the attacks on Buhari said the warnings by the former head of state was only directed against plans to rig the 2015 election.

The party also condemned the personal nature of the attack by the presidency which it claimed did not dignify the president.

In a statement issued in Osogbo, Osun State, by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the statement for which Gen. Buhari is now being mercilessly savaged was nothing but a warning against those who may be planning to rig the 2015 general elections, hence should not have rankled anyone who believes in free, fair and transparent polls.

It said the viciousness of the seemingly coordinated attacks by the presidency and the PDP raise a lot of concern regarding their plans for the 2015 elections.

‘’We hold no brief for anyone. But it is true that if elections are rigged, as they have been so shamelessly and brazenly done by the PDP since 1999, naturally people will react, and in doing so it is impossible for anyone to predict how far things can go. This is what, in our opinion, Gen. Buhari warned against. If the presidency and the PDP have no intention to rig in 2015, why are they so worried about the consequences of such action?’’ ACN queried.

The party said Buhari’s warning was in order, considering that the 2011 general elections remain the most systematically-rigged polls in Nigeria’s history, irrespective of the so-called endorsement by some visceral foreign election monitors.

“The 2011 elections also left Nigeria divided along ethnic and religious lines”.

This Saturday, we as football fans will be able to feast our eyes on what can only be described as a football festival with the resumption of El Clasico.

It is not just that this is the biggest rivalry in world football despite what Celtic and Rangers fans might think, or what Boca Juniors and River Plate fans might think. It is the biggest rivalry for many reasons, but even more so because at this very moment, it is between the two best teams in the world.

Fabregas: Barca doesn't fear Madrid
Barca's Puyol expects to be fit for Madrid

Take the two best managers in the world under the age of 50 (Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho). Take the two single-best football players on planet earth who scored over a combined 100 goals last season (Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo).

Take the player who I believe has been the most important player in world football for both club and country the last four years (Xavi). Add water and stir and let’s see what happens.

El Clasico is upon us. Whether you are a fan of the Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga or even MLS, you should carve out two hours of this weekend and watch what should be a football fireworks festival.

This season, the ill-tempered rivalry got off to a fast start when the two teams played a two-legged Spanish Super Cup that ended in a tackle by Marcelo on Cesc Fabregas that should have seen the Real Madrid player go to prison, not just an early shower. The benches emptied and Mourinho saw fit to poke Barcelona assistant coach Tito Vilanova in the eye in the melee that ensued.

These clubs do not like each other and it has even been feared that the Spanish national side, made up of so many Real Madrid and Barcelona players, has been affected by the animosity between the clubs. In fact, Xavi and Iker Casillas had to have their own private summit to try and cool the tempers between the two clubs for the sake of the nation.

While Barcelona had the upper hand last year, this season is a little bit different. Real Madrid currently sits three points clear of Barcelona with a game in hand as Barcelona is set to miss some domestic action as the club heads to Japan for the Club World Cup.

Los Blancos are playing a brand of football that I believe is going to be tough for Barcelona to contain and it is doing it very much in a way that suggests once again that if you give Mourinho that second season, he can work magic as he did at Inter Milan.

At this point of the season I could see Real Madrid doing its own treble. Real Madrid is the favorite for this Clasico, and rightfully so. The numbers don't lie and neither does the table.

It was clear that even last season, Real Madrid was the second-best team in the world and I am quite sure it would have beaten Manchester United in the Champions League final had it gotten past Barcelona.

Both clubs are coming off of impressive wins over the weekend; Real Madrid beating Sporting Gijon 3-0 on the road and Barcelona following up its mid-week 4-0 win over Rayo Vallecano with a 5-0 home win over Levante.

Still, there seems to be something just a little off with Barcelona, and it does not seem quite as fluid as it was last season.

Maybe it is introduction of Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez, or maybe it’s because Guardiola does not seem to be able stick with one lineup. But it seems to me that Xavi is not as involved as he was last year. He is not having a bad season, but he just does not seem to be as dominant in his position as he was last year.

Real Madrid has scored three or more goals in 11 of its 14 La Liga games this season. Cristiano Ronaldo has 17 of the 49 goals it has scored as a team, and both Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema are contributing mightily.

But Barcelona is going to have to contain Angel Di Maria and his 11 assists to have a chance of winning this week. The Blaugrana's backline is going to have to be exceptional and its art of possession and ticky-tack passing is going to be twice as crucial in this game.

Barcelona is obliged to go and get these three points. A draw does not help it very much and it is going to need to win at both Clasico fixtures if it’s going to win a fourth consecutive La Liga title.

The pressure is squarely on the shoulders of the boys from Catalonia and Real Madrid is just waiting for them with a few scores to settle.

Should Barcelona lose on Saturday and fall six points back having played a game more, I think it will be safe to say that the La Liga title is heading to the capital.

It is El Clasico. It is the best rivalry in the world and it is the best two teams, the best two young managers under 50 and best two players in the world. Miss it at your peril.

THE ABBREVIATION

Xavi, the best of 2011

Ronaldo, Messi and Xavi are the three shortlisted players for this years Ballon d’Or. While I think that Messi will win it for his 52 goals last season and La Liga and Champions League titles, I would just be so pleased if this year it went to Xavi.

I think the midfielder has deserved it on more than one occasion and specifically last year when he was the maestro of the World Cup winners. His genius needs to be rewarded win the Ballon d’Or just once.

It will be ridiculous to retain Siasia —James Peters •Eagles too big for Siasia –Tijani Yusuf

| Print | E-mail

Written by Nenye Moses, Abuja and Ganiyu Salman, Lagos Friday, 28 October 2011

FORMER national team assistant coach, James Peters says Nigeria will be a laughing stock in African football if Samson Siasia is retained as Super Eagles coach.

Speaking in Abuja yesterday, Peters told sportswriters that Siasia lacked the moral ground to continue the job.

''First, the terms of contract says he should take the Eagles to the semi-final of the Nations Cup. He could not even make it to the Nations Cup, not to talk of reaching the semi-final.''

Secondly, Peters said Siasia is not qualified to sit on the technical area of the Super Eagles going by specification of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

''There is a directive from CAF that every national team coach must be certified by CAF through their licenced programmes.Siasia does not have the prerequisite qualification and as such, he is ineligible to sit on the bench during Nigeria's matches.''

Peters recalled that Siasia snubbed the opportunity to be part of the CAF-coaching-licence programme held recently in Abuja, adding that if Nigeria keeps him on the job for sentimental reasons, then the Super Eagles should be prepared to play matches without the head coach on the bench.

In his own reaction, Musa Talle, Chairman, FCT FA, said Siasia only rode on favourable public opinion to get the Super Eagles job.

''He did not have good records with the clubs he handled and on moral grounds, he does not forgive others who offend him, so calling on Nigerians to forgive him now is unacceptable,'' Talle said.

Meanwhile, FORMER Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Dr Tijani Yusuf, has joined the growing list of Nigerians calling for the sack of the

Super Eagles head coach, Samson Siasia.

The embattled coach would know his fate today as the executive board of the

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), meets in Abuja.

Yusuf, speaking in an interview in Lagos pointed out that the process of rebuilding Nigerian football must start in earnest.

"There are a lot of people who said the Super Eagles is bigger than Siasia to handle and it has come to show now. As I said earlier, we need to start rebuilding the team which may take two to three years. Ghana has done it, so many other countries have done it and they are now reaping the fruits of rebuilding. We should remove the garb of being a big nation. we should not shy away from the fact that we must start from scratch," he stated.

Meanwhile, former board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Taiwo Odebunmi, also believes the retention of Siasia for the plum job is unnecessary.

"You cannot enforce discipline to the detriment of the team. The truth of the matter is that you must use your brain when you want to exercise authority.

Siasia is not mature enough to handle the Super Eagles," Odebunmi said.

This is the attitude of the Cabal in the NFF who don't want change. But I like your attitude Siasia, continue to be an upright person God will see you through and one day this same group will come begging you for forgiveness. PDP attitude in NFF.

Keshi You have to agree on a percentage and a reasonable before you will enjoy working with those groups

Jega is not proactive in making decisions, He is really confuse.

I think the time lost should be investigated, something could be fishy.

I complete my Registration entries online but I cannot Preview then print my Photo. This guys are of Poo. Last Monday some complained that it took her days to get her photocard using a fast network. Another complained that the system would not accept his fingers print (Like INEC). Some complain that there server is slow.

I tried to call their HELP Line, no one answers. I went to their branch office, the men in charge told me that I should put my complains in writing which will be forwarded to Abuja Headquaters. Another option giving to me by them is that I should travel to Abuja (Which is over 200km from place) to make my complain.

Tokotaya:

In my book, the life of anyone seeking to kill another man is not precious. I'd say, if anyone brings out a knife to kill anyone, shoot him please. Recall that a corper acting as INEC registration official was killed by this same hoodlums in this same Jos. Newspapers said they wanted the cops to hand the chap over to be slaughtered, the cops refused. They overpowered the security and killed the poor boy. Why were they armed? So because they wanted to avoid extra judicial killing now, they should allow hoodlums kill innocent, defenceless people? Why are security officials armed all over the world? I'm sorry, if this offends you, but anyone who is intent on killing a fellow human being should be shot dead.

Inertially the person was thought to be a corper but It was declared by the state co-ordinate that no corper was killed. The person killed was also learnt that he was a student from one of the institution.
Politics / Suggestions On Jos-plateau State Problems by roots: 12:50pm On Feb 16, 2011
Wtih current violence going on in Jos and it's surroundings, what is your suggestion or recommendations towards achieving a lasting peace on the Plateau. Though the root to these problem started before the 20th century and it seems it has become an unending issue. The Issue is "who are the owners of Jos or settlers". The Hausas have claimed ownership, the Afizere, Anaguta and Berom have claimed ownership.

What is your suggestion Nairalander

Guys, Islam is a violent religion. I have a video tape of a mallam preacher, preaching before the incidence of Dogo Nahawa. Though it's heavy, I wish I could upload it for u guys to watch and listen. It is about 1Gbyte. One of the Mallam preached to his Islam followers saying, "the Government of the day is stupid, why would he say that we should embrace peace. That is an insult to Islam, we therefore resist and we will not stop the violence till we achieve what Allah wants" . The is still more of what he said which are odd and not peacefull. I will get the name of the Mallam who is from Kontogora, Niger state preaching in Jos.

Islam is like a snake that waits for the right time to hunt its prey.

Also, the Muslims should answer this " why are most Islamic flag have a symbol of a SWORD ? " the SWORD signifies Violence (JIhad) abi,

There will a high degree of peace if islam don't exist in this world.

Did you address the part where she goes to the other guy's room or make her swear by that bible that nothing has happened between her and the other guy. Cos if u did not address the problem itself, you just postponed the evil day.

She swore with the Bible, that she did nothing with the guy, thanks.
