Londoners are eagerly anticipating the upcoming ‘August in Africa’ 2015 Summer Festival organised by The Africa Centre taking place in London’s iconic Covent Garden Piazza on the 1st of August. Admission is free. Both international and rising stars are expected to take the stage for a full day of music and activities. Confirmed artists include renowned Nigerian singer songwriter Asa as headline act, with special appearance by Fuse ODG. Other confirmed artists include Bonga, Taali M, Alim Kamara, Emeka Elendu Presents Kalakuta, True Ingredients and Simo Lagnawi. Each year, the festival highlights different aspects of contemporary ‘Africana’. The 2015s theme will explore the art of portraiture through photography and ascend into an immersive experience, unfolding a pop–‐up photography studio, workshops and other exciting activities. Moroccan photographer and internationally renowned artist Hassan Hajjaj will honour the tradition of the photography studio – while recreating his famous décor – by capturing the most striking styles among visitors. The photographs will be showcased as part of an online campaign. The audience will also have the chance to view a digital exhibition titled The Story Within. A series of curated still images will morph into an animated display, inviting the viewer to dive into a 3-dimensional space, immersing the audience in an exploratory cultural journey around the African continent. Aesthetics and styles will be featured from such notable photographers as award-winning Malick Sidibé, rising-stars Mario Macilau Aida, Muluneh, Joana Choumali and Omar Victor Diop. The exhibition documents the photographers’ process, unravelling the thoughts and ideas that bind their work, giving us an insight into how they approach subjects and when they make the decision to click the shutter. Autograph ABP will also feature their exhibition, The Missing Chapter, which presents rarely seen photographs of black presence in the UK from the mid-19th and early 20th centuries. Festivalgoers can expect a full day of activities for children and adults alike. Everyone is invited to celebrate and harness the best creativity that the African continent has to offer. YOU WOULDN’T WANT TO MISS IT, WATCH HIGHLIGHT OF LAST YEAR’S EVENT. SOURCE: http://blog.glamafrica.com/2015/07/24/august-in-africa-festival-london-is-only-a-week-away-free-entry/

After showing her skin condition to the world when she appeared in America’s Next Top Model, Chantelle’s modelling career has gone upwards since then. She has walked on several runways, featured in i-D magazine, Diesel campaign, and much more. At the Gala’s Spa Awards 2015 which took place in Baden Baden, Germany, the beauty was awarded ‘Beauty Idol’. On accepting the award, the 19 year old said; “It’s an amazing honour. The fact that people recognize what I’m fighting makes my success even more valuable.” She previously spoke about her condition and advised others who are suffering from Vtiligo Self-image or self-confidence, it has to do with yourself. Those things are scarred so much by other people, but those are really things within yourself. Those are things you should focus on yourself instead of looking towards the opinions and validation from other people that yes, you are beautiful. You should know that you are beautiful, you should know that you are creative, you should know that you are beautifully and wonderfully made. That’s just something you have to believe within yourself. Congrats to her for making the best of a condition which many like Michael Jackson try to hide with makeup.
