When Dele Alli first burst onto the scene with Tottenham in the 2015/2016 season, his name quickly struck a chord among Nigerians. The name ‘Dele” was clearly of Yoruba descent and soon enough it bespoke that he was born to a Nigerian father Kehinde. Dele Alli and mum Denise An ‘aha’ moment that soon made him very topical to the Nigerian press, Premier League enthusiasts in Nigeria and expectedly whispers of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) having a crack at recruiting him. Disappointingly, Alli had no tie-in with Nigeria and has gone on to become a full England international. So what happened? A host of players of Nigerian descent have gone on to play for other countries, boys who grew up with little or no bond to their parents’ country and culture. And that's understandable. Alli, however, is not in this group. As a child, he spent almost a year in Nigeria with his father and attended a school in Lagos. Dele Alli and his father Kehindeplay Dele Alli in Nigeria According to his father Kehinde, Alli is a Yoruba prince through his birth. He had a very close relationship with Kehinde and relocated with him to Houston, Texas. Alli was his father’s best man when he married his second wife Lola in 2006. Early life Alli was born in Milton Keynes, United Kingdom in April 1996 to Kehinde and an English woman Denise. Kehinde who was in the United Kingdom studying for a Masters at De Montfort University had met Denise at a nightclub. Kehinde and Denise got married but separated three years after Alli was born. Although separated, the couple was very close and raised him together. Alli cuts ties Alli left his father and returned to England at the age of 11 to focus on football. “It was hard for me to let him go but I knew it was the best thing for him and his ambition,” Kehinde told Sunday Mirror-both Alli’s parents had a sit-down interview with the newspaper. While in England, Alli moved in with a family of one of his teammates at his first club MK Dons. He refers to them as his ‘adoptive parents’ although he was never legally adopted. “When he was about 13 Dele began training at MK Dons five days a week. So for convenience, he began staying at his best friend’s house during the week, before coming home on weekends. It was hard to let him live away from home, but we didn’t have a car and I was finding it hard to get him to training myself,” his mum Denise said in the interview. His mum was suffering from alcoholism and voluntarily gave him to this ‘adoptive parents’ to keep the youngster away from her unfavourable surroundings. “It has been said that I was suffering from alcoholism and I gave him up because I couldn’t look after him, but that is a lie. I wanted to give him the best chance of achieving his dream, but he was still my son and I was there for him whenever he needed me. “He was never adopted by his friend’s parents – I would not have allowed it. My kids are my world.” In this interview, Kehinde and Denise revealed details on the breakdown of their relationship with their son Alli. According to them, Alli gradually began to withdraw from them after signing his professional contract with MK Dons at the age of 16. He last spoke to his mum in 2015. “He was in great spirits and said, ‘I love you mum’. I had no idea that would be the last time I would see him. It still leaves me shocked,” Denise said about the last time she saw Alli. Both Kehinde and Denise have made a series of attempts to see Dele, either by attending Tottenham games, visiting the training ground and even by joining stadium tours. The midfielder stopped answering their phone calls, he stayed away from family events before cutting ties completely. Denise revealed that she tried to talk to Alli after a game at White Hart Lane in 2017 but the midfielder simply ignored her and walked to his car. “I waited outside after the match and when Dele came out I quietly said to him. ‘Dele... it’s me... your mum. “He didn’t stop. He just looked at me, said he was busy and drove off. I was in tears, it was heartbreaking.” Kehinde who is a millionaire oil, gas and technology entrepreneur has made several trips to London from Houston to try to reunite with his son. He has attended games just to see his son in flesh and support him and he insists the midfielder’s new riches and fame are not the reasons he wants to reunite with his son. “Not being able to see or speak to him hurts a lot. Myself and his brothers watch all his games on TV and they ask me, ‘Why won’t he see us?,” Kehinde said.  A team of reconstructive surgeons at Johns Hopkins Hospital has performed the world’s first penis and scrotum transplant to repair a US military veteran’s battle wounds sustained in Afghanistan. Better yet, it’s likely the patient will regain both urinary and sexual function. “We are hopeful that this transplant will help restore near-normal urinary and sexual functions for this young man,” said Professor W. P. Andrew Lee in a statement. Nine plastic surgeons and two urological surgeons performed the 14-hour surgery on March 26, transplanting the entire penis, scrotum (without testicles), and partial abdominal wall from a deceased donor. One of Nigeria's top social media influencers, Unilag olodo was Harrassed by security members of the Mega chicken just because he was taking pictures of the food he was about to eat. In the Video he stated; THE UNFAIR TREATMENT METED OUT ON CUSTOMERS BY MEGA CHICKEN. . So foodie like myself that's been starving all evening made a video of the food while deciding what to order at Mega Chicken Ikota and the security came asking me to delete it. . I found it very annoying and refused. Dude went to call MOPOL on top my matter and caused a scene, seizing, insisting I open, and almost breaking my phone. . I've basically spent too much money on these people and endured their useless services (especially lack of available delivery staff) over the years so this really pissed me off. . So my people, help me understand and make sense of what just happened o. . Questions: 1. Is it an offence to take pictures now at fast foods? (Aren't fast foods public places?) . 2. Were the MOPOL right to check my phone (my private property) looking for picture I took? . 3. While making a LIVE VIDEO (which was posted anyway) the MOPOL grabbed my iPhone 7, almost broke it while wrestling it from me. Is this RIGHT? . 4. DOES MEGA CHICKEN HAVE THE RIGHT TO HARASS CUSTOMERS WHEN THEY NEVER PUT ANY NOTICE PROHIBITING USE OF MOBILE PHONES IN THEIR PREMISES? . 5. What will be done about the public humiliation I endured and the stress on my sister who has a headache right now as a result while people were gathered around as if I stole food? . Pretty much questions I need answers to because no theft was committed, no intellectual property abuse, no sign stating its “NO CAMERA” Policy. This story is far from the truth. We the students of the Department of English, University of Lagos hereby state categorically that the caption in the circulating picture is false; it is not the true representation of what happened in the class. Prof Adeyemi Daramola is one of the best and finest lecturers in our department. He is a father who jokes a lot with us like his children. And the alleged flogging was one of his jokes, as he didn't strike the girl but only demonstrated jokingly. Carlos Tevez is the latest high-profile international player to join the Chinese Super League with Shanghai Shenhua confirming the signing of the Argentina striker from his boyhood club Boca Juniors on Thursday. “Shanghai Greenland Shenhua FC reached a transfer agreement with Argentina Club Atletico Boca Juniors. Carlos Alberto Tevez is officially joined Shanghai Shenhua,” the club said in a statement on their website. Although no financial details of the deal were released, reports have suggested that the Chinese club paid €84m (£71.6m) for Tevez, who returned to Argentina last year after spells in England and Italy. MTN Nigeria has denied reports that it sacked Amina Oyagbola, the human resources and corporate service executive, for her role in the alleged bribing of Nigerian authorities to reduce its fine. The telecom giant, in a statement released on Friday, said Oyagbola made the “voluntary decision to resign after serving MTN for 12 years as the longest serving director”. The company denied once again allegations that it paid bribe to have the fine slashed from N1.04 trillion to N330 billion. THE FULL STATEMENT Our attention has been drawn to a report published on December 23, 2016 by an online website – about our retiring Human Resources and Corporate Service Executive, Amina Oyagbola. To be clear, we state without equivocation that the story is untrue, malicious, defamatory, with the goal of damaging our hard-earned reputation, as well as that of our highly respected executive, Amina Oyagbola, who has served our company for 12 meritorious years. To address the issues raised in the article: - As we have stated at various times in the past, we categorically deny the accusation that MTN (or its employees) offered a bribe to a government official over the NCC fine. - Secondly, there is absolutely no truth to the accusation that Mrs Amina Oyagbola who is our Human Resources and Corporate Services Executive was fired.
