Please look at the requirements for opening a islamic bank. If it requires you to be muslim, then it fails from it onset since it discriminates against other religions. Thats my 2 cents. |
Politics / Re: Wikileaks Cables: Shell's Grip On Nigerian State Revealed by santony2k(m): 3:44pm On Dec 09, 2010 |
Sorry @Reference, Contrary to what you think, Shell, Chevron, ExxonMobil, even you (if you decide to go into drilling) need incentives because NNPC doesn't DRILL. I have/know the inner workings of petroleum economics, in an intermediate extent (not an expert) but from what I know, we NEED shell - we pay millions to invite them actually and if there is no profit in a business, they don't agree to the JV or profit sharing agreement (the only 2 ways we make money from oil). Land/offshore, shallow waters/deepwaters are all just different criterias of determining what type of companies or what type of business is done. Not all companies do shallow/deepwaters and/or land/offshore. get my drift? I LOVE THIS WIKILEAKS cable. Reveals a lot of suspected nuances by our FG and what the big players in the international scope actually know. Just my 2 cents. |

But sorry oh fellow Nairalanders, what is the difference between a delegates visa and a regular tourist visa? The rationale behind the denial is biased though because if they were denied a delegates visa are they also ineligible for a regular visa to visit South Africa? I don't think there is anything special in SA for these guys because Nigeria is where the money's at. This is just pure f*ckery on the part of SA embassy wanting to show levels. All the FA Chairmen will be in SA come worldcup one way or the other. P.S. Does delegate visa come with free ticket or do we still have to pay for them, thats what we should be worried about? Box seat at the world cup for >36 ppl unnecessarily. My 2 cents |

I was actually able to leave my seat and come back without fear. I even checked Nairaland while I was watching the game. I think we did good. This group performed better than Kanu's group in the last game. But where is the attacking midfielders? We suck at crosses and free-kicks so why the wide balls all the time? Largerback cmon son, hook us up with a kicker, if na the goal keeper sabi do am, bring am up like Portugal(?) or was that Paraguay(?) My 2 cents. |
Sports / Re: Nigeria Vs Saudi Arabia (0 - 0) by santony2k(m): 9:29pm On May 25, 2010 |
Although it was only a friendly - nobody wants to get injured, no risks etc. we played like we were being forced to practice. No swagger on the ball, nothing spectacular. I'm not the best coach o but i think we need like 6 more friendly matches not 2. They should fly back to Lag and play against the Nigeria league teams, Enyimba etc abeg!!! Oh Lord of Messi, have mercy on us if we come to you unprepared. My 2 cents |
Politics / Re: Nigerian Student Invents Bio-diesel From Vegetable Oil by santony2k(m): 9:12am On May 24, 2010 |
Hello ppl, I successful produced Bio-diesel from waste vegetable oil. Senior thesis in College. Holla at me for info. Economically viable at around 1000 lbs per day. It can be done for local municipals in Nigeria especially for agricultural purposes. The resulting bio-diesel even meets ASTM standard by adding a final finishing ion-exchange column, an unnecessary process in Nigeria where the standards would not apply. Ran the trans-esterification process in a batch reactor, easily produced. Used an evaporator instead of water-washing and also even used a centrifuge to separate the glycerine phase from the methyl ester (Biodiesel). Benefit of evaporation is that the excess methanol can be recycled via a recycle line back into the reactor tank for the next batch along with fresh methanol and potassium hydroxide (instead of sodium hydroxide or lye). Just a simple mass balance is needed for that. My 2 cents. |

Politics / Re: Acting President Goodluck Jonathan And His Too Many Grammatical Errors by santony2k(m): 6:31pm On Apr 16, 2010 |
OK I would like to add my own 2 cents to the topic. I saw the topic and after reading through 4 pgs, I decided to watch the interview myself on Youtube. After viewing the interview, I come back here to say that all the topic is useless, not in its totality but in the manner it singles out GJ errors. I understood everything he said and I'm sure everyone of you did too; Amanpour did too. GJ spoke from his mind, unscripted and I now like the guy more. He was clear and forget about the accent, the accent isn't any different from any one of you who hasn't been in an European or N. American country for years. You think you have stellar mastery of the language until you leave Nigeria, well you don't. I live in the United States and see older Nigerian professionals all the time. They are respectable but the accent still persists, Yoruba, Igbo, Calabar alike. As long as he is clear enough for the reporter and his target audience, Nigerians you should forget about his grammatic error; I didn't even catch the error until my second take on the video looking for errors. The content of the interview I even like more. He seems like an everyday guy who happens to be President. He has good political skills and he is gonna be able to maneuver those old guys effectively. I'm not an avid follower of Nigeria elections or even a craze GJ follower. I just wanted to comment because GJ is now the President and should be scrutinize but to what extent? I'm sure there are ppl smarter than us analyzing his every public speech and making recommendations for him. My 2 cents. |
Nairaland / General / Obladi Oblada - What Does It Mean? by santony2k(m): 3:46am On Apr 16, 2010 |
So I was watching Jeopardy on TV the other night and they asked a question, "What Beatles song is derived from a Yoruba word meaning 'Life Goes On'?" Nobody got it right but the answer was - "Obladi Oblada" I am Yoruba and that doesn't even sound like anything I've heard before. Can somebody shed some light on the meaning please? Is it like a really old slang word? |

@ tundysho Let the man speak his mind. Just because you don't agree with him doesn't mean he has to keep his opinion question. What is this forum for then? @ topic, We shall see how this plays out. Somebody/people know more than their saying or aren't disclosing information for/against Ribadu. The people are the one losing in this situation. They need to solve this asap *like tomorrow*. Politics / Re: To Hell With Your Oil, North Tells South by santony2k(m): 3:30pm On Aug 04, 2008 |
Ok Nigeria1, No offence, I think we all get what you're saying - The oil fields belong to Ondo. The real issue isn't about who it belongs to, it belongs to the fed gov't for now. We all get almost an equal amount of money from it. So please enough picture, it gets to a point where even a good point is beaten to death and it becomes annoying. Talk about the issue, i.e re-read the topic and talk about that. @ topic, maybe all the governors whould have meetings and attack each other more often, lets see if that'll help. They might be up to something this time. We should start a paper/online publication - take the pictures of the worse place, state by state and take it to the Governor. Tell them - "THIS IS WHY THEY TALK SH*T ABOUT YOUR STATE". Out of order but related, I saw an episode of HBO:The Wire, they did this and it was effective in cleaning up the city of Baltimore. True story though. My 2 Cents (again) |

Politics / Re: Even PHCN Uses Generator! by santony2k(m): 7:42pm On Jul 22, 2008 |
I looked into the dollar figure. Vununu was right $250 million is the cost. http://geometricpower.com/news/oct_28_2007.html The price isn't a lot, contrary to what you might think. $250 million is chicken change - when it comes to power generation. They'll make that money back in less than 3 years. If its properly executed and if it works good. They should build more all over the country (1 per state, if possible), divide Lagos into 3 subdivisions build 3. and then use NEPA as backup. I work in the energy generation industry (diff from distribution), and can say confidently, 250 million dollars is a joke. The project is probably a test run to see if its a viable solution to our problem. ps. They all don't have to be coal, if you're close to the water, use hydro. In the desert, use solar (good luck). We can afford to use coal, we have a alot of it. I heard some politicians worrying about polluting the air. F**k that. We'll have the cleanest air and be in the darkness. We can deal with the air after we have electricity for 24 hrs. China is doing it, why can't we? |
TV/Movies / Re: Denzel Washington Vs. Will Smith (Poll) by santony2k(m): 5:29pm On Jul 21, 2008 |
No problem kev-d. No offense taken. ON A VERY VERY IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE - REMEMBER WILL SMITH USED TO BE A RAPPER. WITH A "R"!!!! But the question of versatility arises? Do you think Denzel can play an action hero? Do you think Will can play a serious character? Can either of them play a compelling role outside of their comfort zone? If so, which one of them can do it better? Let's not kid ourselves, they are both talented and smart. Their managers aren't dumb either. This is their job, they aren't doing this for fun. They want to make the $$$$$, if the role is too radical and people don't like it, your credibility will go down the drain (Eddie Murphy anyone?), but you still want to do something different and not be labeled as boring and so on - We've already beaten the idea of Will doing the same role to death (Which I believe is wrong) |
Education / Re: Bank Phb / Skye Bank Education Loan by santony2k(m): 3:18pm On Jul 21, 2008 |
I believe 17% - 25% is what you pay for credit card bills - Monthly. That can even be reduced if you have good credit in USA. So if a bank is charging you the same rate on a educational loan as you would on a credit card, there is no incentive to take the loan. The best bet is to borrow from a corporative (lol), if they still exist and you belong to one. The government needs to regulate the interest on educational loan if they are looking out for the people, because the BANKS ARE LOOKING OUT FOR THEMSELVES. ITS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE GOV'T TO LOOK OUT FOR THE PEOPLE On a side note: Anybody knows what would happen in Nigeria if you take out the loan and then you can't afford to pay back? In the US, it f**ks up your credit and you cannot do anything until you file for bankrupty and stuff. Whats the deal in Naija? |

TV/Movies / Re: Denzel Washington Vs. Will Smith (Poll) by santony2k(m): 10:26pm On Jul 20, 2008 |
Another 2 Cents from me. This is ridiculous, You guys should stop giving your opinions and trying to shove it up everybody's throat. Everybody likes both of them, separately, but when compared together seems like most ppl favor Denzel because of the memories they have about him and his movies. Again, like someone said earlier, how do we classify or compare them side by side, what are the criteria. Seems like some people bank on talent and then ignore other details, some others rely on money per movie or how much each actor can generate. Others just listen to their gut and decide. I say we take a different approach and compare all of the criteria together? First who has the most bang for a movie? Second who is more talented? - Action: - Adventure/Western: - Comedy: - Romance: - Chick flicks (different from romance): - Drama: - History: - Kids/Animated: - Voice overs (its a talent): - Historical: Would you mind watching his movies over and over again and not get tired? (I get tired of Denzel's movies personally Score each actor based on this, the person with the most nudges win. Is that acceptable? If not, give reason. |
Food / China Bans Dog From Olympic Menu by santony2k(m): 11:25pm On Jul 11, 2008 |
Hey my people, Wetin you think?, China has ordered dog meat to be taken off the menu at its 112 official Olympic restaurants in order to avoid offending foreign visitors. Restaurant workers are advised to "patiently" suggest other options to diners who order dog. Any restaurant found violating the ban would be black-listed, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported. Dog - known as "fragrant meat" - is eaten by some Chinese for purported medicinal properties. The ban, issued by the Beijing Catering Trade Association, forbids all designated Olympic restaurants from offering dog and urges other food outlets to remove the meat from menus. "If a customer orders dog meat, restaurant staff should patiently suggest another entree," said Xiong Yumei, deputy director of the Beijing Tourism Bureau told Xinhua. Act of respect The measure has been implemented to "respect the habits of many countries and nationalities," the Beijing News quoted the municipal food department as saying. The BBC's James Reynolds says the ban is one of several steps taken by China to avoid foreign visitors being amused or offended by local customs. Authorities have also told people to queue up politely, to smile and not to spit on the streets. During the 1988 Seoul Olympics, South Korea also banned doggie dishes from menus. Officials invoked a law banning the sale of "foods deemed unsightly". Dog meat is eaten in some other Asian countries, including Vietnam, the Philippines and Laos. |

Education / Re: Bank Phb / Skye Bank Education Loan by santony2k(m): 10:11pm On Jun 25, 2008 |
Nice analysis, maybe a little exaggeration there, but good chain of thought. The way I see it is that, we spend a lot of money on unneccesary stuff in nigeria anyway - Yahoo-yahoo boy makes 50 million naira and can't account for it 1 month later, Billionaire wants to keep gettig rich and buy the newest cars but the road is still bad. Little little stuff like this adds up to the big picture - Oyinbo man sees all of this and goes, "wow, I need to be involved and make some money to pay off the taxes I owe and the student loans I owe and also donate to my favorite charity etc". Most naija people, no matter where you live, thinks, "wow, I need to be involved. I need to get my share so I can be rich and do better." The better in our mind is open to interpretation. about the loans, student loan isn't supposed to be cheap. Its blood money - In all the civilized world! You'll pay back till you die!" but people need it and people take it. If you want an education, nothing should stop you. That doesn't mean you shouldn't find other means. Use the loans as your LAST resort! |

The official date for the launch of Firefox 3 is June 17, 2008. They want to make it a world record and Nigerians are slacking. I checked the website and only about 300 ppl are from Naija. I know that there's more than that amount in Naija alone and if you're in London or US, still select Nigeria as your home country. London and US will do fine without you. Note: This is looking like a world record already, so please let Nigeria be there. You don't even have to use it after you download it. The link is provided below. http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord/ |
