Travel / Re: How Do I Travel Back To Nigeria With My Baby? by scottishlass: 12:23pm On Apr 27, 2013
chaperon88: I just gave birth to my child in Chicago and needs to get back to Nigeria in 2 weeks. Info reaching me states there is no nigerian embassy in Chicago. How do I go about getting my baby,s visa stamped on my pp

Did you not research this before going to the states to have you baby? Anyway I think you should get in touch with any of the consulates (NY, Atlanta or DC) I don't know which is one is nearest to you. Have you got your child's american passport sorted yet? You cannot stamp his visa on your own passport. Your baby needs his own passport to travel. Once you have the passport, you can apply for express Nigerian visa which takes a maximum of 72 hrs.

All the people making silly comments about the baby's gender obviously have a one track mind. Just because she doesn't conform to your nigerian sterotype of a baby girl with pierced ears and plaited hair automatically means she looks like a boy. I have a daughter with similar looks and no one has ever asked me if she is a boy in UK but only recently, I was visiting Nigeria and people kept asking if she was male even when she was wearing a dress shocked
Travel / Re: Drink Drive Advice From People In UK-urgent pls! by scottishlass: 10:01pm On Mar 13, 2013
Find a good lawyer otherwise they will make a mincemeat out of you in the court. Drink driving is a very serious offence in UK. You are likely to be fined and banned from driving for at least a year. Your sentence will be reduced by a few months if you agree to attend an alcohol rehabilitation course at your own expense. Meanwhile, I don't know where you are but in Aberdeen you will most likely appear in the local newspaper and the conviction would appear in any CRB check for at least 5 years.
Travel / Re: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by scottishlass: 10:00pm On Feb 23, 2013

wow 900 to 1,200 per month ? isnt that not a lot ? i found some which range from 60-76 per week, so thats roughly £240-£300 per month.
however it depends where you are schooling

It works out the same if he shares the three bed with 2 other people..it would be roughly 300 to 400 quid per month. The rent also depends on the state of the apartment ie furnished or unfurnished and what utilities are included.

I can't tell you much about RGU ratings but from the little I know, there are a of lot of Nigerians studying there so you will easily feel at home. In fact there is a large Nigerian community here and a good number of them are either working in the oil industry or studying. Aberdeen is the third expensive city to live in UK after London(and Birmingham) so cost of living here is quite high just as salaries are equally high. There are a lot of Nigerian churches here as well and you can buy basically most Nigerian foodstuffs from the African shops on George street/John street albeit a bit more expensive. Are you planning to stay in Uni halls or private accommodation? Most students arrange their own accommodation which works out a lot cheaper than the Uni halls. You can have a look at this website(http://www.citylets.co.uk/student-accommodation/)just to have a general idea how much accommodation costs in Aberdeen. I know you said you don't need to work but I would consider getting a part time job while studying here and I am not talking about the financial gains. Working in the UK is an entirely different ball game from working in Nigeria. You will be able to integrate better into the system, polish your social skills and develop very good work ethics. Furthermore, if you are planning to stay back in UK after your studies every little work experience counts. And oh!!! I forgot the weather....it's mostly gray and cold all year round. Let me know If you have any specific questions relating to Aberdeen.

aysometin: @ Vic Justice.. Thanks for your comment and advise, you are very right, I am yet to see anyone that came from Nigeria and passed without lessons.

@2 Bosun, it's automatic o! Who does manual anymore anyway...lol and why are you guys trying to get both??

Seriously are you having a laugh? undecided Well I use a manual car and most people I know use manual as well. I hope you are aware that you would need to do another test to drive a manual transmission so personally I don't see the point in learning with automatic and then learning again with manual. You might as well do it once and for all. If you are considering another centre with higher pass rates, you should also familiarize yourself with the test route so that you don't get any unpleasant surprises. Good luck!

Hi sorry to hear you flunked your driving test..the best advice I can give you is to get as much practice as possible. If your husband drives, let him take you out driving regularly in addition to your instructor. It took me 18 months to practice and I passed on first attempt with only 4 minors. Both my hubby and instructor could not believe it because I am not a natural driver lol. So, just hang in there and get lots of practice to boost your confidence. Good luck!
Travel / AMS Freight? by scottishlass: 12:25pm On Jan 28, 2013
Has anyone dealt with this company before? A friend of mine recommended them for door to door cargo services from UK to Nigeria but I can't find reviews of their services anywhere on the net. If anyone knows any other reputable freight company with proven track record, please kindly let me know. Many thanks.
Travel / Re: Help With Spouse Visa Requirements by scottishlass: 4:23pm On Jan 23, 2013
aysometin: If your spouse does not live in the UK at present, then your best bet is to apply for a tourist visa.
Whenever you guys are ready to move back to the UK, then you can apply for a spousal visa.
A spousal visa is issued if the sponsor is currently residing in the UK or is planning to move back to the UK.

For your tourist visa, your hubby needs to state he is a UK citizen and taking you to the UK on a visit.
Let him write a letter and submit a copy of his british passport.
Submit proof of accomodation (hotel booking is enough)
Proof of being able to afford the trip.
Work details in Nigeria: Contract, payslip etc.
Marriage Certificate - Please supply enough info to show its not a scam. Pictures, certificates, if you have visited other countries together, you can supply info.

P.S This is easy as long as he can afford it.

Just confirming the above post, you will have to apply for a tourist visa for now since you are only going for a short holiday. You can apply for a spouse visa in the future if you and your hubby decide to relocate and settle in the UK. Your hubby needs to write a very good supporting letter for your tourist visa application and the onus is on you to prove that your relationship is genuine. Goodluck!
Travel / Nigerian Students Studying At University Of Aberdeen/rgu by scottishlass: 10:19pm On Nov 06, 2012
Hi everyone, I was wondering if there are students who have just joined University of Aberdeen or RGU last September? What are your impressions of the granite city so far? I have been living here for sometime now and having studied in UK myself, I know how overwhelming and challenging the whole experience can be. If anyone is having problems settling down or need any sort of pastoral care/advice, please feel free to contact me.
