Fellow Kaduna corper. Representing from 2012/13 Batch B.

I camped at Chikun LGA camp. Discipline is very high there honestly.

One time we were all in the parade ground listening to an address by the NYSC state coordinator and some top officials. We became very restless and impatient to leave because of an impending heavy downpour. Immediately they ended the address we hurriedly left the grounds, disregarding all protocols which requires top officials to depart first while we maintain parade formations.

When the rain started pouring heavily and we were all chilling in our hostels, soldier stated going round barking and chasing corpers out into the heavy rain. We were all forced to kneel under the rain thoroughly drenched and shivering. (Miraculously I escaped this)

Another time, some stubborn corpers ignored the lights-out buggle and continued walking about in the mami markets until soldiers were forced to storm the market chasing corpers Into their hostel while some corpers ran into the bushes to hide.

The next day on parade ground, after the normal morning routines, all male corpers were separated aside and made to do frog jump round the field until our knees became so sore and painful that we couldnt even stand anymore. Come and see men weeping, wailing and begging for mercy. Some guys fainted and were carried off. We all couldn't walk properly many days after that. And of course, we always made sure to never to misbehave again

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. I served there 2019/2020.

NYSC / My NYSC Camp Experience by scylentstorm(m): 3:52pm On Jul 08, 2020
"Kajuru!"

That was the first place that struck my mind when I saw Kaduna on my NYSC call-up letter. Kajuru is one of the twenty three local government areas in Kaduna. It is a Christian dominated area with some Muslims minority. The news that surrounded the area hitherto was quite unfavorable. There were series of religious clashes here and there — as this was what the media had had to feed us with. Therefore, having to embark on a long-distanced journey for the first time in a long while, I felt indifferent. The feeling was a mixed one.

I arrived camp on the 27th of March, the day camp officially opened. The 'reception' at the gate did not help in easing the tension and anxiety that accompanied me. "You are welcome to the BlackGold camp. Now place your bag on your head." A soldier commanded in a friendly tone that betrayed his sternness. I hurriedly lifted my bag to my head to avoid stories that touch. Amidst a feigned chuckle, I jugged into the camp. I was received by several groups of people who were there to help during the course of the registration processes.

The registrations, even though long and a bit tortuous did not take up to 3 hours. In no time, I was quickly settled on the BlackGold Camp, Kaduna. I was assigned to Platoon 9 where I would resume daily for camp routines.

For the camp routines, we were subjected to different kinds of activities that are alien to the common man outside. To start with, every corps member lived a regimented lifestyle. Everything was controlled. In fact, in the words of Lolo, the Kaduna State NYSC SAED Director (2019), "Here, you are told what to do, where to and how to do it!" Nothing was done according to ones own accord, except during siesta — and of course, the siesta too was regimented. However, as stressful (and oftentime annoying) as these may have seemed, they all have their merits. For instance, for the first time in a long while, I observed a kind of discipline in uniformity — one thing lacking in the Nigerian society. Indeed, while we often gloat over corruption as the bane of development in the country, we shy away from labelling indiscipline as a major cause. In camp, failure to adhere to some rules and directives would warrant a punishment, not minding whose ox was gored.

There was an incidence that got everyone on camp punished. During the Daily Entrepreneurial Program (commonly called SAED), an ex-corps member was invited to talk to us about life during and after NYSC. He called himself a motivational speaker and a life coach. In the process of talking, everyone grew so bored and annoyed at some things he said which we felt could only be taken on the surface. He was booed whe n he later removed a book to sell. This unruly behaviour from us angered the NYSC State Coordinator present that she punished us later in the night. We were all made to sit outside in the cold and dusty night for over 5 hours.

Beyond the above mentioned, there are series of activities in camp that exude virtues redefined. From the parade ground to the Man 'O War Special Squads, from the First Aid Group to the Band and OBS to the Kitchen, each groups had its distinct characteristics. If you are looking for focus and organization, the parade ground and Man 'O War (which I belonged) were places to be. Then there are the gallant Army officials whose duties consist in executing orders from the Camp Top Officials. These men were stern when the need arose and as well soft and friendly on other various occasions.

My most favorable moment on the Black Gold Camp was when I emerged 2nd position in the Essay Writing Competition, thus pocketing Ten Thousand Naira for myself. The topic of the essay was "My Camp Experience" which is what I have narrated right here.[/img]

When I started following football games, I thought Arsenal were a french side because of the number of French personnel in the team. From the coach to their attack, to their midfield, and even their defence had great french players. Dad was also an Arsenal fan, so I subconsciously became one.
There came a time when a new 'sect' sprang up. People called them "noisy fans", "agbero club", but they called themselves "the millionaires' or billionaires' club". Little by little, I started asking for their matchday results and began to make mental notes that truthfully, they were good albeit 'proud'. One day, I sneaked out of the house to go watch Jay Jay Okocha humilliate this noisy fans and that was the first time I consciously saw them play football. O, what a day! This club gave my Okocha's Bolton a whooping 5-1. Just then, I knew that this would be the club I'd support. I fell inlove with the passion that transmitted from the fans to the players.
Thank God for His divine intervention. Today I'd have been an Arsenal fan

Lmao! You just had to thank God for divine intervention. Arsenal isn't bad afterall.

I didn't start supporting a football club until 2009. Though, I first knew about club football in 2006 during the Arsenal Vs Barca champions League final. I noticed Funaab students trooping into our flat that faithful night and I was wondering what was happening. Then the match started and it made sense why they were all in our flat. I remember watching the match with dem and the only player I heard them screaming his name was Henry, they were also calling him different names like Igwe, King Henry, vroom vroom titi King Henry. Everything didn't just make sense to me that night, though I watched the match, I still didn't understand all the hype the students were feeling that night, and after the match ended, I noticed most of dem left feeling dejected - I still didn't know why but I later got to find out why when I started watching football fulltime smiley
Some three years later - that's 2009, I was in SS2 then, I remember going to watch a match - what made me go that night I don't know coz it was quite unusual, though the viewing centre is like a 2-mins walk from our house and the owner is a family friend. I got there and I started watching the match, I didn't even know which teams where playing that night, but I just noticed most people there where cheering for Drogba and I enjoyed it. The match ended in a draw - a 1-1 draw I think, and I noticed most people cheering for Drogba were sad and started leaving. I didn't understand why coz the match ended in a draw and I was expecting them to play a penalty to decide the winner so I was confused as to why the other team won despite the fact that the match ended in a draw. I remember tapping someone and asking him why the team in blue lost despite a draw, I remember the man mumbling something like "they lost because of away goals". I scratched my head coz I didn't understand the concept of away goals den, he tried his best to explain to me but I still didn't get it. Well, I felt bad because Chelsea lost coz I felt they were cheated {lol} because the match ended in a draw. And it was on that night a bond was forged and a loyalty for Chelsea was born in me, the rest like they say, "is history".
I got to understand why Chelsea lost despite a draw that night years later though {lol).

Quite interesting.

mine was so awkward... I supported random team back in 2008....so one day my friends ask me which club I do support I said no one and they started laughing I felt as if I haven't achieved something they have.... so I do go to football centre to watch matches to decide club I would choose... mehn back then man u was fire.. like wise Barça. but I don't have any feeling to support even chelsea but there fans even push me far away from them... I saw Arsenal and looking at there series of breaking fans heart I just no try reason them.... then I saw the reds... Steven Gerrard caught my love and that funny Reina tho they are not in best form but I still admire them... especially the way there fans chant even when they are losing not like arsenal fans crying like the lost a life contract ....i develop more love to them... so one day I met those my friends and told them I'm a Liverpool fans they laugh at me.. I felt bad... but anytime I see Liverpool Jersey or anything concerning the club it lift my spirit despite they are not in good form.. and note people don't watch there match back then. in football centre you would see Max of 5people , except if is a rival match that's when the crowd stays.... the Fernando Torres gave me joy of a bad day when I remember his solo goals.... my club is historical something many fans dream there club have.... loserpool... you will walk alone... Gerrard slippers.....despite Chelsea fans pushing me away from the club that club still came back and hurt my sweet club in many competition and I hated them more..... up Liverpool epl champ....assenal, womanchester United... manshity oil money...who laugh last laugh best

I love this. Quite inspiring.

I became a Chelsea fan in 2009.

I've always loved football but mum wouldn't allow me go watch at viewing centres.
So I usually wait up for my brother to come back and gist me.
On this occasion, it was Barca vs. Chelsea (UCL semi final), my brother came back, I asked him how it went, and he burst into tears.

He kept saying he'll never forgive Ovrebo.
I had pity on him and on Chelsea.

No one deserves such injustice so I gave all my love to Chelsea on that day.

Thankfully, I gained admission the next year and was free to go watch matches since then

The "he burst into tears" made me laugh really hard. So basically, your support for Chelsea was driven by emotion.

Aprokko, he is!!

If he wasn't, he would have stated it in his story

For me, as a blue fan, similar thing made me join the blues, in the 98 preciously, we use to watch football match in a neighbor's house, the man and his children were man u fans, we had arsenal fans around too, so each time they play against Chelsea they will always yab the few Chelsea fans around, so out of what I could call pity to those fewer fans of Chelsea in our compound then, I decided to fan the blues, and that really balance things as I was a good argumentator, that time we Chelsea fans start having our way I my neighborhood.

Sincerely speaking, I have no regrets for joining Chelsea then cos the club has won everything a big club should win and is still winning.

Do u know Chelsea has lifted more trophies than any other epl team in the last decade Oya go visit your friend Google!!!

Reasons-
1. I hate moving with the crowd, Nigeria is a pro premiership country, I had to look for something different.
2. Acquisition of Obafemi Martins.
3. The beautiful away jersey of 2002/2003 season
4. when I checked inter Milan's Facebook page and they ended one of their articles with "Inter , not for everyone." that was a soothing piece of information for me because my friends always made jest of me for being the only one supporting Inter they have seen.

It is a long story but worth reading.... Relax and enjoy

I move to an area where football is like a festival, every weekend people queue up to watch the game, argue, laugh and share history together. And yes, everyone supporting one club, Liverpool was majority then and the high class supporters.

I don’t have interest nor support any but gradually to waste time with them, i started watching the game with them but one thing was certain, I don’t favor any club whoever score is totally fine with me.

As months, years went by I began to feel my heart beating fast whenever Real Madrid is playing, either winning or loosing, playing against big or small club.

The day Madrid loose a game will be my worst day while other clubs means nothing to me.

The funny things is in my country Premiere League is what everyone support and only watch El_Clásico but that’s not me. Though, they found it weird.

After many months i started reading Real Madrid history, watching videos, trophies etc then i proclaim myself a Real Madrid fan and everything around me speak Madrid.

The best club in the whole world

Santiago Bernabéu where HISTORY is Made.

#HalaMadrid y na da mas

Hala Madrid!

Interesting thread.

I guess my love affair with Chelsea fc started in 2005/2006 after I briefly flirted with Bacelonia FC.

It all began when I was an avid newpapers reader in that period of my life, each time I picked a newspaper to read news and matters arising, when I reach the sport/football section and glance at the English Premier league table One club with an unpopular name at the time use to be top of that table for every week - l loved the name first initially but this club never seems to drop from that number 1 spot on that table for several weeks into months.

Keep in mind, I wasn't watching football at the time nor did I ever have any access to watch the premier league (we didn't have DSTV), I just know lots of people (men) take interest in football and I love playing as well and could recognize popular names like Batistuta, Ortega, Ronaldo and the likes prior to world cup competition.

Club football was relatively new to me at that point of my life and the only club I stuck with but not like i love them that much was Bacelonia, this was because Ronaldinho, Man was a football god at the time, I loved him and still do. Ronaldinho made me loved the idea of picking Barcelona as my favourite club.

If laliga was as popular in the Nigeria media at that time, I would have stuck with them but English premier league dominated the Nigerian media more.

So basically, The moment of truth came when Chelsea finally squared up to Bacelonia in Champions league - I just loved the ROMAN ARMY era of Chelsea fc and their winning ways, it was a tough decision, however, I was neutral during the match but I can't can't deny love for Chelsea at that point. Lots of chelsea players influenced my decision back to have joined them, players like;

Drogba
Hernan Crespo
Darmen Duffy
Celestine Babayaro
Lampard Frank
Baba Terrible Terry
Geremi
Arjen Robben (man was playing like Ronaldo and Messi combined at the time)
Gudijossen
Kezman
Joecole
Ricardo Calvaho.

I still love Chelsea till data and my daughter is gonna be named Chelsea. I love Roman Abramovic too.

Sweet memory there. You had a more objective reason for choosing Chelsea. May the love not fade.

gaucho was just too good, his endless skills, crazy passes, funny body faints and most importantly that ever smiling face with his big teeths and people even said he is using jazz and a magician back den..
i enjoyed watching him tru out the ucl games dt barca won arsernal, d way he dribbled and embarrassed dt millan mafian gattuso and dt crazy dancing goal he scored chelsea, even if he was silent in d final...gaucho won my heart to barca and messi cemented it till now and still happy i choosed them....

When DSTV became popular, foreign clubs was subsequently introduced to us. I liked Manchester United because most people within my area loved them.

That changed in 2006 when Man Utd fraudulently won Chelsea who had been unbeaten all season. Everyone supported them; in their minds, the Portuguese manager was proving to be a god.

I have always hated people who oppressed people, while developing a soft spot for the oppressed. So, there and then, the bandwagon love I had for Manchester United quickly turned to hate and I started supporting Chelsea since then.

I also love Man city for getting this same treatment for being too good. Most especially this season. (Liverpool vs Man city comes to mind)

Sweet memory. But it's normal for a United hater to love City.
