Elijah: Trusting in God's Provision

Scripture: 1 Kings 17:14

"for thus says the LORD God of Israel: 'The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the LORD sends rain on the earth.'"

The story of Elijah demonstrates unwavering faith in God's provision, even in the midst of scarcity and challenges. During a severe drought in Israel, God commanded Elijah to go to a widow in Zarephath. When Elijah found her, she was gathering sticks to prepare one last meal for herself and her son before they expected to die due to the famine.

Despite the dire circumstances, Elijah trusted in God's promise. He asked the widow to bring him a little water and a morsel of bread. Though hesitant, the widow obeyed, and a miracle unfolded. The bin of flour and jar of oil in her house did not run dry until the day the Lord sent rain upon the earth.

Elijah's story teaches us the importance of relying on God's provision, even when it seems impossible. It reminds us that God can use unexpected sources and circumstances to meet our needs. Elijah's faith and obedience led to abundant provision not only for himself but also for the widow and her household.

In our own lives, we may face times of scarcity and uncertainty. However, Elijah's story encourages us to trust in God's faithfulness and provision. He is our Jehovah Jireh, the God who sees our needs and provides for us according to His perfect timing and plan.

Reflection:
Take a moment to reflect on Elijah's trust in God's provision. Consider the areas in your life where you struggle to rely on God's provision and instead lean on your own understanding. How can you deepen your faith and surrender your needs to God, trusting that He will provide? pray for a heart that fully relies on God's provision and finds contentment in His faithful care.

As we reflect on Elijah's story, may we be inspired to trust in God's provision in our own lives. May we surrender our worries and anxieties, knowing that He is our provider and sustainer. May our faith in His provision lead us to live with gratitude and generosity, knowing that He will supply all our needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the example of Elijah's faith in Your provision. Help us to trust in You, even when our circumstances seem bleak. Increase our faith to believe that You are our provider and that You will meet our needs according to Your riches in glory. May we rely on Your provision and give thanks for Your faithfulness. As The Curtain Draws On The 9th Assembly: Ifeanyi Ubah Has Placed Anambra South Senatorial District On The Map Of Astounding Development

As the 9th Assembly shuts down today with a valedictory session, Anambra South Senatorial District can stand tall, beat hands on the chest, and count their blessings, while looking forward to even greater days ahead, having re-elected their capacity-laden son in preparation for more dividends of democracy in the 10th assembly.

A cursory peep at the Google interpretation of the word "Astounding" shows it to mean something that is surprisingly impressive or notable.

The above best describes the mega feat that Senator Dr Ifeanyi Ubah was able to achieve in the course of delivering on the mandate handed to him by the good people of Anambra South Senatorial District in 2019 under the platform of the Young Progressives Party (YPP).

Senator Ubah, immediately hit the ground running like a man on a mission despite being elected on the platform of a then-new political party whose very first stint at the National Assembly was courtesy of the mandate won by Senator Ubah during the 2019 polls

On arrival at the Red Chambers, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Ubah immediately turned the supposed disadvantage of being the lone Senator elected on the platform of his party (the YPP) into advantage by successfully making a case for inclusion in over 35 committees in the Senate.

This he did by calling for an interpretation of a Senate rule that stipulates that every political party present in the Senate be represented in the various standing committees in the Red Chambers.

Today, a lot of political watchers, including critics alike are awestruck at the level of developmental dividends that Senator Ubah was able to deliver for the Senatorial District in the various sectors (health, education, road rehabilitation, markets, skill acquisition and empowerment programs, security, etc).

All the outstanding projects were delivered as a first-timer despite the various hurdles that played out during the course of the tenure.

Senator Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, on assumption of office as the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, was confronted with a deluge of court cases from some of the candidates that he defeated at the polls. It became even more bizarre at some point when one Barr. Obinna Uzo, who didn't participate in the electoral contest, procured a doctored judgement from Kubwa High Court that purportedly sacked Senator Dr Ifeanyi Ubah from office and declared him winner.

Senator Ubah, like the proverbial cat with nine lives, was able to overcome all the hurdles and won the entire court cases, a feat that was greatly celebrated by the good people of Anambra South Senatorial District.

It didn't stop there!

The global pandemic, Covid-19, descended on Nigeria in the following year 2020, with its devastating effects that shook the entire nation and resulted in numerous deaths.

But the Idea Bearer, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, will have none of that. He quickly sent out a war cry to his numerous friends and contacts and rallied them into contributing funds for the building of isolation centres and hospitals that will tackle the health challenge posed by the pandemic head-on and save our people from avoidable deaths.

Over half a billion naira was donated within the space of four months by the Anambra Progressives and Development Union, the group convened by the Senator to rally funds but which also had many of his friends from across the country contributing their quota to the humanitarian course. The above funds would have surpassed the over half a billion Naira generated had Senator Ubah not set the benchmark of one million Naira as the minimum acceptable donation.

May I, at this point, pray for the continued peaceful repose of Senator Buruji Kashamu, who also contributed money towards the building of the isolation centres in Anambra but unfortunately died (aged 62) from complications of Covid-19 in Lagos on the 8th of August 2020 during the rampaging Covid-19 pandemic in Nigeria.

The major story is not just that Senator Ubah built and fully equipped two state-of-the-art hospitals and isolation centres in the two Senatorial Districts in Anambra South and Central while that of Anambra North got delayed due to the petty political antics that the then former Governor Obiano played (a story for another day), the major story also was that Senator Ubah was able to galvanise donations from his friends drawn from different ethnic nationalities in the country in the course of making this laudable project a reality with the hospitals built, fully equipped and delivered in a record 5 months with ambulances procured.

This singular act by Senator Ubah immediately changed the face of the hitherto comatose health sector in Anambra state.
Same Senator Ubah refused to rest on his oars as he has today to his credit, health centres built in majority of the local government areas in Anambra South Senatorial District with two built-in Aguata Local Government alone, another in Ukpor in Nnewi South Local Government, Nanka in Orumba North Local Government Area, with on-going ones in Oraifite in Ekwusigo and Mbosi in Ihiala local government areas.

Next came the Endsars' protests when several youths in the nation embarked on revolt not just against the repulsive brutality meted on them by the anti-robbery department of the Nigerian police force but also revolted against the political class. One may recall how some politicians, including Senator Ndoma Egba's home, got attacked during the melee.

While this prompted political officeholders in the country to go into hiding for their safety, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Ubah took to the streets of his Senatorial District without a single security detail in tow and was able to place his full credentials as a "Grassroot General" well loved by his people on display by commandeering the rampaging youths and decisively quenched the riots thereby saving lots of businesses from destruction. Several police stations that were already facing mob attacks also got saved thanks to the timely intervention from Senator Ubah.

In the course of these distractions, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah made the decision to take his projects to all the wards in his Senatorial District numbering over 119.

With time no longer on his side on delivering on the above intent as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the commencement of the campaigns in preparation for the 2023 polls and also faced with opposition contenders that were busy planting one fake hatchet story after the other and peddling divergent lies and propaganda in a bid to reduce his intimidating support base, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah announced his intention to keep working and delivering projects until a few days to the polls and to commence again a few days after.

While political watchers were busy reading different meanings as to what gave him the confidence to assume that his return to office was sacrosanct, Senator Ubah kept his eyes on the ball and went ahead to declare the now hugely successful "Operation Light-Up and Secure Anambra South" Project.

To his credit today, Ikemba, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, has successfully deployed at least one project in each of the entire 119 wards that make up Anambra South Senatorial District

Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, in the course of the 9th Senate, also broke the record of being the first in the history of the Nigerian Senate to earn a nickname from his colleagues.
He got unanimously proclaimed 'The Prince Of The Ninth Senate' in appreciation of his groundbreaking bill that got passed into Law and that today yields billions yearly in revenue accruals to the coffers of the federal government.

Today, the same Senator Ubah who faced a gruesome attack on his convoy late last year, has taken up the responsibility of tackling head-on the insecurity in the Senatorial District that has adversely affected businesses, the safety of the residents, and driven nightlife away from the zone.

Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah is already recording huge successes with the Anambra South pilot security scheme currently ongoing in Nnewi, which is the economic and political capital of Anambra South Senatorial District.

As the ninth Assembly shuts down today with a valedictory session, Anambra South Senatorial District can stand tall, beat hands on the chest, and count their blessings, while looking forward to even greater days ahead, having re-elected their capacity-laden son in preparation for more dividends of democracy in the 10th Assembly.

Indeed, when the selfless is on the throne, the people greatly rejoice.

Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party ( NNPP) and former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has called the bluff of the immediate past Governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje who said he would’ve slapped him at the Presidential Villa, describing Ganduje as a person who was confused while making the “slapping ” remarks.

” I heard that he ( Ganduje) said he would’ve slapped me, but I’m here. He was just confused. These are all my boys politically. They can’t even look at me straight on the face if we meet. He was in a confused state when he said that, these my political boys if they see me they lower their gaze,” Kwankwaso said.

He told the BBC Hausa Service in an interview monitored on Saturday morning, that he met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for about 2 hours at the Presidential Villa and was able to convinced him on the alleged land deals and other infractions of the erstwhile Ganduje administration in Kano state, adding that the President was so ” surprised with the revelations .”

He alleged that Ganduje had among others, allocated lands at the Kano Race Course to his friends and family members, a development that now made it hard for people who wanted to indulge in sporting activities and other exercises, to find a place.

According to him, even the Eid praying ground where Muslims converged to pray during Sallah, was not sparred by Ganduje who had allegedly allowed shops to be built round the holy place where the Emir and many other important dignitaries had prayed, thereby compromising the security of the Eid Prayer ground.

Kwankwaso disclosed that there were possibilities the Tinubu administration may engage some of them from the opposition in his government, and did not ruled out if he may eventually make it in the forthcoming ministerial list of the new administration.

You shattered many dreams, broke many hearts and caused many to perish and die before their time. Protected by corrupt and evil men and goaded on by a power-obsessed cabal of sick, sadistic and evil monsters and tyrants, you thought you owned Nigeria and even had the nerve to attempt to run for the Presidency.

You thought our nation was for sale and you believed that satan ruled in the affairs of men.


Yet millions prayed for your downfall and removal. Millions more are praying for your detention, investigation, incarceration and bitter end.


Never has a man been more hated in our entire history as the hateful, merciless, callous, wicked, treasonous and treacherous tyrant and traitor that goes by your name.


You believed that money was greater than God and you thought that your repugnant and villanous reign would never end.


O Godwin, I have never wished a man ill in my entire life but in your case I make an exception.

May your pathway be filled with sharp thorns, the horrors of the night and pain and may the Angel of the Lord pursue you along a dark and slippery path.

May your story and end be a graphic example and instructive reminder to the evil and wicked that man is nothing before God, that earthly power is ephemeral and transient, that all power belongs to the Living God and that the Lord alone rules in the affairs of men and forges the destiny of nations.

im in my late 20s my boyfriend is in his early 30s

he is a great guy, he earns a good amount, he has a good job, he is ambitious, he spoils me (buys me lavish gifts), he loves and supports his family, he cares for me when i am sick, he is intentional about me, he speaks multiple languages, he is educated, and more.. he is my perfect guy and he is so handsome too, i feel like i've hit the jackpot. he isn't perfect, but neither am i, but he has great potential.

i have 3 issues

1) his family

his mother, these are the issues that have happened

A. when he took me on our first trip abroad i sensed that his mother wasnt really in suport of it, which i understand. some mothers may not think it is wise to spend lavishly on a girl you have just started dating. Also, he started to use my picture as his display picture on imessage because he liked how I look, I also used his too. but then this happened.. his mother and his aunty held a family meeting with him and asked him why I am allowing him to control me and commented about the holiday and the display picture.
B. I kind of got the vibe that his mom wasn’t happy about the fact that he spent new years eve with me at a party as opposed to at home praying as usual with her
C. Valentine’s came and when the gift he delivered for me arrived, his mother (as a joke) asked “where are her gifts” and asked him why he doesn’t buy her gifts. And then she started enquiring on our valentines plans
D. She wanted her son (my boyfriend) to go to her with to a church to pray that the relationship is God’s will (she is very spiritual and goes to church every day) and when her son told me I thought it was weird. I have no issues with her going alone, or even him going alone, or us two going together, but the fact that she and him wanted to go I felt it was weird. So then I invited myself to come to the church with them and then as the day that I was able to come was a week day she said she had to go to work on that day. So that my boyfriend offered to pay her what she would earn in a day so she could come. She agreed. But then she said she would meet us at the church and make her own way home, instead of us going as a three. And then when I just felt that was weird too, I expressed my concerns to my man and said that I wouldn’t go to the church and then he said he wouldn’t go to the church with his mother and that was a huge issue, she sent him paragraphs upon paragraphs of messages and was very unhappy about it. They didn’t speak for months, because of the church issue and other arguments they have had
E. I noticed that they don’t talk to each other via message anymore, and im wondering whether it is because of the profile picture and he said they just prefer to talk via the phone
F. Since then everything has been fine, but that is because he has stopped talking to his mother about our relationship and has kind of distanced himself from her. Also other things surrounding his family have come to light, I have found out that his mother doesn’t talk to any of her siblings she has 3 of them (for over 20 years) and has fallen out with most of her friends. She also had a bad marriage herself that ended in divorce. my boyfriend doesn’t talk to his older brother and hated his dad because of how he treated his mother. To the extent that, my boyfriend is biracial (half white) but refuses to acknowledge that he is white because of how much he hates his dad. His younger sister also has bipolar disorder and I am wondering if these things are genetic. I don’t know how comfortable I feel marrying into this family, what if his mother and I have a misunderstanding – will she stop talking to me for years? Will his little sister have an episode that puts a strain on our marriage?
G. The family also really, really depend on him. And I am concerned, if we do progress in our relationship and move to the next stage – how will they cope when he is gone, because I don’t want to share my husband. I wouldn’t want to be in a situation where he is being a husband in 2 households. There is nothing wrong with having a son who is a main figure in the house, but he really does play the son/husband role in their household.

He is handsome but he isn’t exactly my type in terms of appearance and how I’d like our future kids to look

3) job
It was always my dream to marry a doctor, or someone really rich. Im not a gold digger, but like I said earlier, he is a provider. But he still lives at home. Im interested to know how much of a provider he could be for me and our future family when he is living alone 100% paying his own bills and mortgage, because his disposable income will go down. I feel like I’d feel more confident marrying someone who was living independently and able to fend for themselves 100%

thats another thing, his mother diddnt even want him to move out because he supports the family she wanted him to stay at home and help pay off her mortgage

SEN. JIMOH IBRAHIM'S INSOUCIANT AND IRRESPONSIBLE COMMENTARY

It is expected that all manner of characters are going to be found in our nation's legislature in a representative democracy.

But because next year will be the 25th anniversary of our democratic experience, it's also expected that by now our legislative branch, if not the entire three arms of government, would have gone through some self-cleansing and sanitation.

By Josh, there are still very fine, refined, noble, honest, responsible, astute, reflective, and virtuous men and women in and out of the Nigerian landscape to populate our legislature and the conditions for entrance as a member of the Third Estate should have by now become very stringent that a shady, crooked, fraudulent, arrogant, irresponsible and intellectually vacuous character like Jimoh Ibrahim, the new Senator-elect from the Southern senatorial district of Ondo State should have had enormous difficulties getting the APC ticket, let alone winning an election.

One had thought that Jimoh Ibrahim's fairly long sojourn in the United Kingdom would have reshaped him into being a responsible member of society. But when he opened his mouth during a Channels TV interview with Seun Okinbaloye a couple of days ago, one realized that this is Deja vu all over again as Jimoh Ibrahim has learned nothing----and forgot nothing. He's simply a new and improved con artist and an amoral, morbidly selfish, arrogant nitwit.

But before one gets into what he might have said to earn him this opprobrium (and I admit it is), it's important to stress here that Jimoh Ibrahim is a naturally vainglorious personality, a pathological braggart tinged with vacuous condescension who says a lot of things without really saying anything just to impress the gullible. And most people are anyway.

Those who are discerning, and familiar with his braggadocio will always see him as an amusing entertainer, an empty barrel who's always desperate to be seen as a captain of industries by mouthing his businesses, most of which have since collapsed or became moribund. In any case, an authentic captain of industry does not boast. He doesn't even talk unless it's absolutely necessary.

Let's now delve into the issue under reference. After inundating Seun Okinbaloye with his academic accomplishments (which in itself can be commended except that this academic foundation was faulty----and one shall leave it at that), Jimoh Ibrahim dived into the same voodoo economics with which he scammed the federal government in those days, which necessitated the latter to establish AMCON, a vehicle that repossesses movable and immovable properties from chronic debtors like Jimoh Ibrahim to save the nation's economy.

He said the Nigerian government can literally retire its "debts in 90 days," and then engage in another round of heavy borrowing as if money was going out of fashion while lacing his so-called expertise in the field of finance with words such as "moratorium" and "honorarium" as well as "bridge financing" without any suggestion as to how the government should first plug the huge manholes and ineffectual and redundant bureaucracies that sucks revenues.

"Have you sold these ideas to President Tinubu?" Seun inquired.

"Well, I spoke with him last when we were doing the campaign on abandoned projects. I shouldn't be giving you these ideas for free. I should be charging hundreds of millions of dollars for this knowledge," Ibrahim responded.

Seun followed up and said, "You are a member of the APC. Shouldn't you be offering some of this knowledge that you have?"

It was at this point that Jimoh Ibrahim flew off the handle with the following irksome statement.

"Did APC pay my school fees? Did APC come to me in Cambridge when I was suffering and riding on a (sic) bicycle when I had to force back my private jet and I was crying at night? I have invested in knowledge. You need to consult the people that know. If you're (sic) my son, I would not give it [knowledge] to you. Is it easy to come by?

The instructive thing here is not necessarily what Jimoh Ibrahim said as the discerning knows too well that this master con artist is simply trying to position himself to engage in another round of scamming the next National Assembly and the Nigerian government, but the disrespect and disdain for the party and its faithful who truly deserve the ticket that was gifted this ungrateful ingrate.

pray, what knowledge has Jimoh Ibrahim invested in that other party members who gave, and continues to freely give their expertise for the development of the party and the country haven't?

How many party faithful did the APC pay their school fees, yet have remained unflinching in their support and loyalty to the party and its cause even in the face of injustice?

As the holy writ says that "From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh," those who know Jimoh Ibrahim up close cannot be surprised in the least when he said even if Seun were to be his son, he still wouldn't share the knowledge he has invested so much to acquire. Jimoh Ibrahim is an unfeeling personality whose spirit of giving, with his opulence, is long dead. He was saying the truth that he wouldn't even give his son his knowledge (wealth).

The billionaire's first wife still ekes out a living selling pepper on the streets of Igbotako, his hometown in Ondo State. His younger brother, also a lawyer, died of kidney failure years ago because this dangerously wealthy man couldn't give his brother the N2 million needed to do a kidney transplant. The billionaire's mother's house, which was a stone's throw from her son's caught fire from a lit candle because Ibrahim failed to provide electricity for his mother's dwelling. And she was burnt beyond recognition. One can go on and on.

Jimoh Ibrahim, who said President Tinubu liked his idea about solving the problem of abandoned properties is himself an epitome of abandoned projects. His house in Igbotako was abandoned. His so-called university has been abandoned. His filling station in Akure was abandoned, not to talk of his many business entities that had gone under and a significant number of his former staff were sent to their early graves because he refused to pay their salaries and other entitlements.

Yet, he would brag that he was the first human being to have gone to Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge at a stretch and came out with flying colours where the knowledge he acquired in these ivory towers enabled him to send a cat to the moon which fetched him trillions of dollars in the process because of his knowledge, and ingenuity which his country must now pay for if she wants out of her debt peonage.

While Jimoh Ibrahim can poke his nose with his uncouth, repulsive, and nauseating statement at the party because of the mercantilist disposition of some people in the state's party hierarchy as he may have paid a princely sum for his ticket, he cannot, and should not be allowed to disrespect those strongly committed progressives in the state who continues to maintain fidelity to the party and its progressive ideals, despite not being adequately rewarded for their toils.

APC must be taken back from charlatans who have no respect for the party like Jimoh Ibrahim who will surely end up a failure in the Red Chamber as he was in the private sector.

And I am willing to bet on this!

im dating a guy and his mother wanted to go to the priest with her son for the priest to pray over the relationship to see if it is the will of God. my boyfriend initially agreed, but when i said i diddn't feel comfortable with the situation he backed out and his mother was very unhappy with him about it.

my boyfriend insists that his mother likes me, and the prayers were just for confirmation, but i am not sure. we've been dating for about 8 months and i've suggested that i meet her this month, to clear my doubts but he says it is too soon and we should wait until late july.

Hello nairalanders, today I did the unthinkable. I went for the ndlea recruitment going on now without been invited. my name was not on the list after I had prayed and said, God, my name must come out, but for where.
After seeing the list, I cried so hard, but then I picked up courage, because I lived in Jos, I said to myself, why not go and act drama for this people so they will no that the fire is too much for you.
Anyways, I was supposed to go there on Monday, but all the bravado I felt disappeared. It was replaced by this sickening gut wrenching fear. Up till now, I cannot tell where that fear came from. I was so worried and scared of what might happen so I ended up not going on Monday. The same scenario played out on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I would be very brave one minute and the next thing fear sets in.
So people of God, today been Friday, I said to myself, this is the last day, if you miss out on this, you will never forgive yourself oh. I thought about my son, and all the responsibilities waiting for me, then I picked up courage. I borrowed my neighbor's shoe, wore black short instead of navy blue and set out with all my documents. As I didn't get heart attack or die of fear today, I will surely live long. my whole body was shaking. I couldn't even talk. I kept asking myself, who send you? What will you tell them when you get there? Hmmm
The funny thing is, instead of turning back, I kept going. I tried to pray, for where. Fear totally enveloped me. I was in the bus, praying for us never to get to my destination. Chai! Life is full of ups and downs.
Anyways, back to the story. I finally arrived at the junction. After I was dropped off, I started walking ever so slowly to the gate. I was almost crawling, I didn't want to reach oh. Eventually I got to the gate. One officer that saw how slowly I walked, asked me to go back to the junction and start running back towards the gate. I was like, which kind of wahala is this? Untop of my name that is not even in the list.
When I got back, I was asked by one of the security personnel to for my serial number. Oya, see problem. How do I begin to tell this man that I came all the way here just to beg to be screened. I wanted to tell him the truth but I decided against it because, this is not the person I will beg now. What if I tell him the truth and he decides to throw me out without letting me meet the people who can help me. This is how I just told him to let me check the list. I stood under the sun and started checking what I don't know . One part of me was praying for a miracle, while the other part was like, I told you so.
I stood for minutes checking list. The security personnel got so angry with me. The man wanted to cut off my head oh. He was like go back because you are not serious. I saw all the people passing by to do their screening and go home and I burst into tears. Come and see cry. The security personnels had to rally round to console me, asking me to keep checking that I will find my name. Me that knew in my heart that my name wasn't there, kept crying. I just envied those people that were so lucky.
Anyways, after crying my eye balls out without still finding the imaginary name, I was told to go home that there was nothing they could do. One staff asked me to pray and fast, while the other asked me if I knew any senator or minister, that if I knew any, I didn't have a problem. I was like, how will I know any senator, and I will be here. These people are certainly out of touch with reality. Before my very eyes, one man that his son got shortlisted, came to swap names because his son refused the offer. The man was just making calls up and down. One other man was asking for the commandant like he was his next door neighbor. He said he was a dss official. Honestly, some people are lucky to know important people. We that dont know anybody, otilor oh
Anyways, after sitting in the sun for hours without any divine helper showing up, I said to myself, go home to your baby. That thought alone made me smile. I know I might not have it all together now, but I still had my baby. I actually missed him while I was there . It will surely get better someday as long as there is life.
Meanwhile, please if you are my divine helper and you know any senator or somebody that knows somebody that can help me, please do oh. Country isn't funny anymore. Please abeg, help me oh.

The Preacher Who Broke Guinness Record While Carrying A Cross Around The World

His name is Authur Blessitt.

He hails from Greenville, Mississippi, in the the USA, and this year makes it his 56th year of carrying the cross around the world even at 82 years old.

Here's what he has to say after achieving this unprecedented feat:

Glory! This is the 51st year of walking carrying a 12 foot cross around the world. (1968-2019) my mind is focused on Jesus!  As of October 17, 2019 I’ve walked with the cross 43,326 miles (69,726 km) including every nation, major island group and territory. for the Glory of God. Jesus did it. At the age of 78 I’m still carrying the cross in 2019! This is the Guinness World Record for the World’s longest walk/pilgrimage. 86 million steps, over 19 billion pounds carried as I walked with the cross. The weight is figured by the total of my body weight and the cross weight on my shoulders multiplied by the number of steps.

The faces of millions of people I have seen or met along the way flood my memory. As a young pastor the night Jesus called me to full time evangelism as I prayed on a hilltop outside of Elko, Nevada. Jesus showed me the sky filled with the faces of people I had never seen before. People of all colors, races, cultures and religions. It was to these I was called. None of these faces I had ever seen before. His call to me was the world! I have now seen almost all the faces I saw that night. I believe when I see the last face Jesus will call me home.

This took place about four years before Jesus called me to make the 12 foot cross and take the first steps with it. I was then 27 years old. I had no idea what lay ahead or that my life would become so intertwined with the cross. I got a taste of carrying the cross in 1968 and 1969. But little did I know it would consume my life when I walked out of Hollywood, California down Sunset Strip on Christmas Day, 1969 heading east toward New York and Washington DC.

I was to become a fool in the eyes of many and a saint in the eyes of others. The road with the cross would lead me through wars, jungles, deserts, cities and to every continent, nation and major island group and territory.

I walked into the world to meet people face to face. To hear the hurting and lost calling out to hear the message of love and hope as well as the screams of hate, anger and rejection.

To help lead people to know Jesus as their Savior and Lord is the ultimate mission of carrying the cross and of my life. I preach and share the Gospel message of the cross, the Holy Blood of Jesus shed for our sins on the cross. The call is to repent of our sins, believe and trust in Jesus and to follow Him. Nothing is greater than to share the hope and life there is in the resurrected Christ. 

Along the way I was to kiss the lepers, touch the sick and diseased. I wept with the hurting and shared hope with the lost and dying. I saw the love of Jesus manifested in peoples lives and rejoiced with them along the roads. Sometimes one person and at other times with tens of thousands of people.

The people of the world have welcomed us or we would not be here. We ate their food, drank their drinks, slept on their mats or bed and were welcomed as family the world over. However, neither the cross or Jesus or ourselves were always welcomed.
The curses rang out, knives at my neck, guns at my head, a firing squad with guns pointed at me, spit on my face, beaten and so often in danger, arrested 24 times and in 54 nations at war. my life became a saga of struggles and triumph, praise and damnation. Attacked from every direction beyond what anyone could imagine. Don’t ever think that carrying the cross around the world will only attract applause.

I’ve carried in my heart the suffering of the poor, the hungry and wept with the pain of seeing injustice, discrimination, hate, killings, wars and persecution. The attacks on the followers of Jesus in our world is so common. Lack of freedom of religion is rampant. It has been a true miracle that my wife Denise and I have gone openly into all these nations that have sought to destroy and restrict the Bible, the cross and the message of Jesus. Yet Jesus led us in and led us out.

The cross the devil hates. Anything to destroy the cross or the cross carrier is open game. I had to reach the point where criticism and praise affect me the same.

There were no bodyguards to protect. The way of the pilgrim is not to defend yourself but to bless your enemies. To love in the face of hate, lies, evil and discord. This has been for us to live out and put into practice as Jesus has asked us to do.

Our life of walking with the cross and sharing the message of the cross… Jesus has been hard for many to comprehend. Denise and I are too religious for many of the secular and too secular for many of the religious. The cross shakes everything up. I’ve been turned away from leaving my cross at over half the churches I’d asked to leave my cross at overnight but was never turned away from leaving my cross at a bar.

I want to clearly say that my wife Denise is fearless and loving yet strong and a true follower of Jesus. So often she is in front of me and faces the dangers first. God knew that I could not make it without her. She is as much a part of the cross mission as I am. We are one. How awesome to have been blessed with Denise by my side.

Many don’t know where we fit. I’ve been welcomed and kissed on the cheek by Yasser Arafat in the middle of war, spent the night at Prime Minister Begin’s home in the Sinai, received the Sinai Peace medal in Egypt at the Presidential Palace, met with Pope John Paul II in Rome, took Billy Graham into the battlefield in Belfast, prayed with George W. Bush in Midland, Texas, preached on stage during the 1960’s with Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan talked with me in the park as I preached in Miami, have been welcomed by the President of the United Nations General Assembly and preached at some of the largest churches and stadiums in the world. On and on I could go.

The path of the cross winds it way through every nation in the middle east and the world including North Korea. Our lives as pilgrim followers of Jesus has led my wife and I and also my children to feel that the world is our home. Fifty years with the cross has changed me as well as it has changed others. I feel as much at home in a crowded Indian market as I do in Los Angeles. I feel more at home kicking a ball made with rags by African children than I do at Disney World. I love to preach on the roadsides with no time clock and live stream on the internet for as long as I want to. It is too hard now to fit me into an 18 minute sermon inside a lovely building with a time clock that turns red when you go overtime.

On the road I returned to my early young days of preaching in jails where there was no music. So I have preached the world over with no music groups or worship music to warm up the crowd. I just speak and the people who want to hear will stay.

When I walk, I walk with Jesus. Wherever we go we share Jesus. Whatever we do we seek to lift up Jesus. That is my passion. I am just a simple Jesus loving gospel preacher and a lover of people the world over. We love all people. We share Jesus and when people meet Him He gives them a new heart and life. When the heart is changed the life starts to look more like Jesus. I stay focused on letting Jesus change people, not me.

Another thing I’ve learned is commitment to the call and mission Jesus gives for us to live. To stay determined and to go forward no matter what is ahead. I learned early on that ‘circumstances don’t alter the call’. We are to act and not live our life reacting to the events, words or actions of others. Follow Jesus.

I am a work in progress. Jesus has been grinding me to powder so that He can blow me where He will. I’m a saved sinner. Every day I pray and repent and say “Lord Jesus Christ, son of God have mercy on me a sinner.” I love the Holy Spirit showing me where I have failed and welcome God being the Potter molding me and making me more like Jesus. I want to be convicted of my sins, things I may do or things I did not do or thoughts that are not from the Mind of God. I truly love to follow Jesus.

I love the Bible, the Word of God. I quote scriptures as I walk, sing songs to the Lord along the road. I worship and praise God. Jesus likes my company too. I love to live in the Presence of God the Holy Trinity, Father, son and Holy Spirit.

One day soon I shall take my last breath and will step into the glory of Heaven and onto the streets of Gold to meet my God the Lord of Hosts.

I feel that I’ve had the most blessed life in the world. From a child I’ve sought to follow Jesus. I recommend Jesus to you.
See your sin…Understand your need, repent and welcome Jesus who shed His Holy Blood on the cross for my sins and yours. Ask Jesus to save you and come to live in your heart right now. Start following Jesus without shame. Tell others the message of salvation in Jesus.

The greatest value in this world for a follower of Jesus is to lead a lost person to Jesus to be saved. I live from one soul saved to the next. A person’s soul and where they will spend eternity is the most important thing in the world. Jesus said “what shall it profit a person if they should gain the whole world but lose their own soul.” If we say we love others yet do not care where they spend eternity, something is very wrong.

Together we shall see a world-wide awakening as the cross is shared and Jesus lifted up in all the earth.

The cross has been with me for so long my body has been changed by the weight of the cross…my shoulder, my feet and my knees, etc. But most of all the weight of the cross and the Presence of Jesus has changed me, my heart and life.

I close with this thought. Simon of Cyrene was in Jerusalem at the time appointed by God to be there to help Jesus carry the cross to Calvary. Simon was a sinner like you and me but he could help Jesus on the way to the place where Jesus was to die on the cross. Simon could help carry the cross but Simon could not die for the sins of the world. Only Jesus, the Word that became Flesh and lived without sin could do that. God gave Himself and shed His Blood for our salvation that whosoever will may come.

After the cross and the resurrection and Jesus ascending into heaven those that know Him as Savior are to be His witnesses.
We are to carry the cross into all the world with the message of Jesus.

I don’t know why but before Jesus called me to carry a large life-sized cross on a long journey, it to my knowledge had never been done before. Sure some had carried the cross at Easter and others a few miles. But I have never been able to find any historical evidence of a person carrying a large cross across nations or continents. I am so humbled and truly unworthy to even carry the cross. But I learned that Jesus’ call makes me worthy. I have learned not to follow the normal but to be willing to step out and break through the walls that have been holding back the bold and daring in their journey of following Jesus and His radical callings.

Now there are thousands carrying large crosses in nations and cities all over the world. What Jesus called me to do has opened the floodgates and people will be carrying large crosses until Jesus comes. May God bless all those who are or will be carrying crosses for Jesus as a witness to others and God bless all the pilgrims who are following Jesus. I encourage you on your journey. Remember this world is not our home. We are but pilgrims and strangers “for the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Jesus said.

This is just another step on the long journey with the cross for the One that is truly Worthy! Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!

Congratulatory messages have started pouring in as Superstar Afrobeats singer Davido is expecting another child with his wife, Chioma Avril Rowland.

In the video making the rounds on TikTok, Chioma is in a skimpy black dress revealing her babybump while with her husband, Davido.

Recall few weeks after he fully return online, Davido confirms that he is now officially married to Chioma as the bride price has been paid in Imo- State.

This comes following the tragic death of Davido and Chioma’s 3-year-old son known as Ifeanyi Adeleke who died on October 31st, 2023 after he drowned at the pool inside his father’s house.

Dear readers, this is the first post of the thread and if God willing, by His special grace, we should been teaching ourselves on a broad topic "DISCOVERING YOUR PURPOSE ON EARTH". I believe that God will touch and change many lives through this topic and bless many souls by letting them re-discovering their purpose on earth before their exit from this temporary home.

Topic (05/06/2023) : Who Created Me?
This question has been asking for many times by different people who are eager to know who behind their creation. my dear, I want you to know and understand that someone behind why you are existing here on earth. According to the Bible, God is the Creator of everything, including mankind. Here are two keypoints and Bible references let us know that God is our creator.

1. God as the Creator:
The Bible establishes God as the ultimate Creator of the universe, including mankind. The accounts of creation in the book of Genesis provide foundational passages supporting this belief.
- Genesis 1:1 – "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." From this Bible verse, it clearly stated that God created everything without any doubt.

- Genesis 1:26-27 – "Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…'"

2. God creating humanity in His image:
The Bible let us know clearly that humans have been created in the image and likeness of God. Knowing from now that God created you and He loves too. Nobody ever happy while his hand's work is being damaged or destroy. Likewise God doesn't happy when the people He created in his own image are not recognise Him as their creator.

- Genesis 1:27 – "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."

As from this moment on, I want you to realise and understand that your existence on earth is being behind by God your creator.

Topic (06/06/2023): Why God Created Me?
Yesterday we discussed about "Who Created Me" topic and believed that those read the message understood who created them. Today we continue to talk about another topic that related to prevoius topic. Today's topic is "Why God Created Me" God created you for some purposes which we are going to talk about below

1. To worship and glorify God:
God created human beings to glorify Him, worship Him, and bring honor to His name. We are encouraged to showcase His love, goodness, and power through our lives by living in accordance to His will. John 4:24, Exodus 23:25, Psalm 150:6, Isaiah 43:7, 1 Corinthians 10:31

2. To have a relationship with Him:
God created us with an innate desire to have a deep connection with Him. The Bible shows that God longs for loving, personal relationships with His children. Genesis 1:27, 1 John 4:19

3. To be stewards of the Earth:
God created humankind to have dominion over the earth and to take care of His creation. This includes taking responsibility for animals, plants, and the environment. Genesis 1:28, Psalm 8:4-9

4. To live in community with others:
God designed humans to be social beings, to live in harmony with others, and to care for each other. Genesis 2:18, Hebrews 10:24-25, Hebrews 12:14

5. To reflect His image:
As God's image-bearers, we are meant to reflect His character in our lives by showing love, kindness, compassion, and justice to another
Genesis 1:26-27, Ephesians 4:24

6. To show His wisdom and workmanship:
Human beings are God's masterpiece, created to reflect His artistic and creative skills, displaying His wisdom and the beauty of His workmanship. Psalm 139:13-14, Ephesians 2:10

7. To share in His divine nature:
One of the most incredible aspects that the Bible teaches is that we can share in God’s divine nature. Through Christ and the Holy Spirit, we're enabled to live transformed lives and participate in the process of sanctification. 2 Peter 1:3-4, Romans 8:29

By seeking to fulfill these purposes in life, which can easily be done with the help of Holy Spirit. We can begin to understand why God created us as human and in His own image and likeness.

Yesterday we talk about "Why God Created Me" topic and believed that those read the message know the purpose why they are created by God. Today we continue to discuss about another topic "How do I discover my purpose in life?" To disvover your purpose in life is the foundation on how your life will look like. Psalm 11:3. Focus on these 3 point mebtioned below will help you to discover your purpose in life and live a life that satisfy your ceator (God).

1. Understanding God's Plan for Your Life

- Knowing that God has a unique plan for you
- Recognizing that God's plan aligns with your strengths and passions
- Trusting God's leading and guidance in discovering your purpose

- Jeremiah 29:11 - "for I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
- Psalm 139:13-14 - "for you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

- Seeking God's guidance in using your gifts and passions for His glory and purpose

3. Seeking God's Will in Decision-Making

- Understanding the importance of seeking God's will in making life decisions.
- Trusting in God's plan, even when it may differ from your own desires or plans knowing that God can not mislead you.
- Pursuing a deep relationship with God through prayer, reading the Bible, and seeking spiritual guidance from mentors and leaders

- Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

Topic (14/06/2023): How to Worship and Glorify God?
The Bible is filled with guidance on how to worship and glorify God in a way that is acceptable before Him. Below are a few key topics and supporting Bible verses that can provide direction on how to worship God in holiness and faithfulness:

1. Prayer and Thanksgiving:
Praying to God and giving thanks in pure heart(Holiness) and faithfulness for His blessings are acts of worship. Express gratitude and raise your concerns to Him with a humble heart.

- Philippians 4:6-7: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
- 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."

2. Praise and Singing:
Singing praises to God allows you to express your love and admiration. Hymns and spiritual songs help to deepen your connection with God.

- Hebrews 10:24-25: "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."
- Acts 2:42: "They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer."

6. Serving Others and Sharing the Gospel:
Love others by serving them and sharing the Gospel. Act as God's instruments in demonstrating His love and grace to those around you.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO WATCH AND pray?
“Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the son of Man.” Luke 21:36

Jesus told His disciples to watch and pray always as the secret of a successful Christian journey to heaven. The warning and command to watch and pray is not meant for everybody, it is not for those who have not experienced genuine salvation, but it is for disciples of Jesus, those who have been saved through Jesus Christ. You need to be washed by the Blood of the Lamb before you can start to watch and pray.

After our salvation in Jesus Christ, after we start a new life in Jesus Christ, what we need to make it to heaven, to overcome sin, satan and self, to overcome every temptation on our ways is to watch and pray. To be counted worthy for heaven after salvation, to escape every temptation and trial, the secret is by watching and praying. Sometimes, we wonder how are we going to escape all the temptations and trials in this life and to make it to heaven on this difficult narrow road, but Jesus has told us the secret, the simple means and method. In Luke 21:36, Jesus said, “Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the son of Man.”

So we can see here that Christian life becomes so, so simple, and making heaven becomes so, so certain and Christian journey comes so easy when we watch and pray.

So what does it mean to watch and pray? It means to keep checking our own life against any sinful nature that we discover in our life through the word of God, and we don’t need to struggle with it, but we take it to God in prayer to destroy them in our life and give us grace and inner strength to overcome it. Simple.

Sometimes, along our Christian journey, we will discover some strange ungodly and sinful nature coming up again, sinful feeling, lustful notion or desire, cares of this world. To watch means to be at alert against imminent danger. It could be anger building up, bitterness, lust, desire for things of this world, pride of life. All these are not ordinary, they are satanic arrows being shot into the life of a Christian, that is the reason Jesus said we must be watchful. We must watch to check our lives against any sudden, strange nature, feeling, passion, desires or lust.

And what do we do when we discover such sinful longing, feeling or desire or nature? We must not struggle with them, we must not see them as normal, we must not overlook them, we must not blame ourselves or question our Christian life. Satan will whisper to you, “Can you see that you are not really born again, or how do you explain this feeling or notion in the life of a child of God? Just take a look at yourself, see the terrible anger, lust, pride or desire? Go for it. You don’t need to deceive yourself, you are not saved, you are not a child of God. You need to quit and face reality”

In such a situation, Jesus direct us to pray about them. That is what it means to watch and pray.

Let me give you an example here. As a child of God, you recently discover that you easily get angry and speak with anger, or you begin to lust after sinful things, or desire for money and cares of life just begin to grow up in you, or the love of old sinful lifestyle and habits begin to stream back into your mind. In such case, you don’t begin to doubt your salvation, you don’t hide it and struggle with it. What you need to do is to take it to God in pray, you will pray, “Lord Jesus, I see that I recently get angry and upset easily, this strong anger in me coming up again, I need your help, Lord, please destroy this sinful nature in me, sanctify me, renew my mind. Give me the grace to overcome this ungodly nature. Feel me with Your Spirit Lord.” Amen

As you pray this prayer, you will feel relieved, refreshed and gain inner strength to calm the storms. That is the reason He said, “pray always” There is always something to settle in prayer as we watch our Christian life. Time of prayer is to settle matter with our God, either spiritual or physical matters, we take them to God in prayer to settle and get strength. Then you keep praying it daily and watch against the sinful nature, habit or feeling. It will die away. And that means you have overcome Satan on that matter.

Then we keep watching, being at alert, because our adversary Satan will still come with another sinful arrows and passion. Then we do the same thing over and over. Watch to discover any satanic work against your life and take it to God in prayer.

Why many Christians backslide and fall into such satanic arrows is either they don’t watch or they don’t pray. We must be watchful over our own life to discover when sinful habit or desire or feeling begin to form in our lives so we can pray against them before they come to reality.

TAKE IT TO THE LORD IN PRAYER
Do not struggle with sinful habit of feeling, take it straight to the Lord in prayer. Don’t manage sinful notion or desire, take it to the Lord in prayer. Take your weakness to the Lord in prayer, take even your prayerlessness to the Lord in prayer. God is always there for us to help us and give us strength and grace. When you are battling with lust, with anger, bitterness, God knows and understand our situation, He is waiting for us to help as we take everything to Him in prayer.

Sister Wilhelmina Lancaster was exhumed in April, according to a statement from the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles, in Gower, Missouri.

Her body was buried outside of the monastery and was dug up to be placed in an improved tomb inside the chapel.

When they exhumed Ms Lancaster, they were told to expect only bones, since she had been buried in a simple wooden coffin without any embalming four years ago.

Instead, they discovered an intact body and "a perfectly preserved religious habit", the statement said.

The nuns had not meant to publicise the discovery but someone posted a private email publicly and "the news began to spread like wildfire".

Her body was carefully cleaned and her body was put on display with as many as 1,000 people turning up each day to see it.

Her body will be laid out for public viewings until Monday, where visitors are allowed to touch it and pray. Visiting hours run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.


A sign next to the body, which is surrounded by flowers, reads: “Please be gentle when touching sister's body, especially her feet.”

Volunteers and local law enforcement have helped to manage the crowds in the town of roughly 1,800 people, as people have visited from all over the country to see her.

"It was pretty amazing," said Samuel Dawson, who is Catholic and visited from Kansas City with his son last week.

"It was very peaceful. Just very reverent."

Mr Dawson said there were a few hundred people when he visited and that he saw many out-of-state cars.

Visitors were allowed to touch Ms Lancaster, Mr Dawson said, saying the nuns "wanted to make her accessible to the public ... because in real life, she was always accessible to people".

The monastery said in a statement that Ms Lancaster's body would be placed in a glass shrine in their church on Monday.

Visitors will still be able to see her body and take dirt from her grave but they will not be able to touch her.

The Diocese of Kansas City-St Joseph also released a statement.

"The condition of the remains of Sister Wilhelmina Lancaster has understandably generated widespread interest and raised important questions," the diocese said.

"At the same time, it is important to protect the integrity of the mortal remains of Sister Wilhelmina to allow for a thorough investigation."

"Incorruptibility has been verified in the past but it is very rare. There is a well-established process to pursue the cause for sainthood but that has not been initiated in this case yet," the diocese added.

The Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles, also said Ms Lancaster has not yet reached the required minimum of five years since death for the sainthood process to begin.

Rebecca George, an anthropology tutor at the Western Carolina University in North Carolina, said the body's lack of decomposition might not be as rare as people are expecting.

Ms George said the "mummification" of un-embalmed bodies is common at the university's facility and the bodies could stay preserved for many years, if allowed to.

Coffins and clothing also help to preserve bodies, she said.

"Typically, when we bury people, we don't exhume them. We don't get to look at them a couple years out," Ms George said.

"With 100 years, there might be nothing left. But when you've got just a few years out, this is not unexpected."

Crying Out to Jesus

As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a sizable crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, son of David, have pity on me.” Mark 10:46–47

How do you pray? Do you ever “cry out” to Jesus with deep conviction and intensity? This blind man, Bartimaeus, sets for us a wonderful example of how we should pray to our Lord. First of all, the blind man was in a state of need. His blindness symbolizes every weakness and need you have in life. So what is it that you struggle with the most in life? What is your greatest habitual sin? Or what causes you the most grief?

Seeing our weakness is the first step. Once we are aware of our greatest needs, we must also “cry out” to our Lord just as Bartimaeus did. Upon hearing that it was Jesus, Bartimaeus somehow sensed within his soul that Jesus wanted to cure him. How did he sense this? He listened to the voice of God within. Yes, he heard the commotion of many speaking about Jesus as He walked by. But this alone could not have compelled him to cry out and to know that Jesus was the source of the mercy he needed. That which compelled him was the clear voice of God, a prompting from the Holy Spirit, within his soul, revealing to him that he needed Jesus and that Jesus wanted to cure him.

At first, those around him rebuked Bartimaeus and told him to be quiet. And if Bartimaeus would have been weak in faith, he may have listened to the crowd and, in despair, remained silent. But it is quite clear that he not only ignored the rebukes of others, he “kept calling out all the more.”

Bartimaeus gives us here a double witness of how we must turn to our Lord. First, we must sense His gentle but clear presence within our soul. We must recognize His voice and His promptings of grace. He wants to heal us, and His presence in our lives must be sensed within. Secondly, we must become intensely fixed upon that voice within. The crowds who rebuked Bartimaeus are symbolic of the many “voices” and temptations we experience in life that try to keep us from faithfully and fervently crying out to the God who speaks to us. Nothing should deter us from our wholehearted determination to call to Jesus with our need.

Reflect, today, upon Bartimaeus being an image of yourself. See yourself in desperate need of our Lord and listen for His clear voice. Do you hear Him? Do you sense Him walking by? As you do, cry out to Him with fervor, intensity, and conviction. And if you find that there are temptations that try to silence your prayer and faith, increase your intensity and cry out “all the more” to our Lord. He will hear you, call you to Himself and give you that grace which He desires to bestow.

my merciful Jesus, You are constantly passing by, drawing me to Yourself by Your divine presence. Give me the grace I need in order to see my need and to call out to You with all my heart. May I never be deterred from this fervent prayer, dear Lord, and when temptation sets in, may I call out all the more. Jesus, I trust in You.

Some people say that Jesus Christ was just a person or a great teacher. He was and is a lot more than that, though. The Bible says that Jesus is special because of who He is and what He came to do. During His time on earth, He wasn't just a spiritual person. He was both God's son (John 3:16) and God (God in a human body, 1 Timothy 3:16). He was both fully human and fully God (Colossians 2:9).

Jesus' Claims

He said that He was God. It might be hard to understand how this could be true, but it's important to remember that God is much bigger and stronger than we can understand. We do know that Jesus said in John 8:58 that He was around before Abraham. He said that He and His Father are the same (John 10:30) and that He is the same as His Father (John 5:17–18).Not only did he say he was God, but he also said he had God's power. (Matthew 25:31–46) He said that he has the power to judge the people. He says he has the power to bring the dead back to life (John 5:25–29) and forgive sins (Mark 2:5-7), which are things only God can do (1 Samuel 2:6; Isaiah 43:25).

Jesus also says in John 14:13–14 and Matthew 28:20 that He has the power to hear prayers and that He will always be with those who follow Him. Jesus is compared to the creator of the world in the New Testament (John 1:3), and in John 16:15, He says, "All that belongs to the Father is mine."

But what's the evidence?

Even if someone says they are something, like Jesus said He was God, that doesn't make it true. What proof is there that He is God? What Jesus does, not just what He says, tells us about who He is. He has left behind a lot of proof that He is God. Some of these pieces of proof are fulfilled prophecies and written accounts of Jesus doing miracles that broke the rules of nature. He also didn't do anything wrong (Hebrews 4:15). No one else has ever done that.But His rising from the dead after dying on the cross was the best proof of all that He was God. No one has ever come back from the dead on their own.Did Jesus ever tell anyone, "I am God?"If someone told you, "I am God," would you believe them? Many people who believe in one God would think the person was blaspheming. Even if Jesus had said, "I am God," in those exact words, many people would not have believed Him or even listened to what He was saying. He didn't say these words, but he did give us reasons to believe this claim.

In Luke 4:8, Jesus says, "The Bible says, 'You must worship and serve only the Lord your God.'" Many times, He said and did things to show that He is the Lord. Jesus, for example, says that He is "the first and the last" (Revelation 1:17; 22:13), which is what God the Father says in Isaiah 44:6. But maybe you are looking for a place in the Bible where Jesus says, "I am God; worship me," in those exact words. If we say that Jesus could only claim to be God by saying that one line, we might also ask where He says, "I am a great teacher, but I am not God," or "I am just a prophet; don't worship me." That's also not what the Bible says.The good news is that Jesus has told us many times that He is God. He has made it clear that He and God the Father are the same (John 10:30), and in John 14:6, He says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." Who else but God could say these things?Does this mean that there is more than one god?Even if you believe Jesus is God, that doesn't mean there is more than one god. Heaven is real, and there's only one way to get there—one way to be free of your sin and have a connection with God. This is because of Jesus Christ.

If Jesus is God's son, how can He be God?

Does the fact that Jesus is God's son mean that God had a wife?God's never been married. Jesus' status as God's son is evident from the title. Jesus, unlike us, did not have two parents on earth. Instead, he was miraculously born to a woman who had never been pregnant. He was born holy and sinless. Even Jesus' mother, Mary, asked, "How will this happen?" (Luke 1:34), but God is all-powerful and made a way for the holy Jesus to be born as a person. In Matthew 1:20, an angel tells Joseph, who is engaged to Mary, that what she is carrying "is from the Holy Spirit." God and Mary did not have a sexual relationship that led to the birth of Jesus. Instead, God performed a miracle through the Holy Spirit that led to the birth of Jesus. Jesus was fully God and fully human at the same time.Luke, a doctor, wrote the most detailed gospel account of the birth of Jesus without a father. This is also important. Luke knew that a baby being born without a father was impossible, but after doing a lot of study, he came to the conclusion that it was true. The same God who had enough power to make the universe also had enough power to bring Jesus into the world without a human father. His birth was a miracle, which is just one more sign that He is God.What's the point of knowing who Jesus is?

Heaven is real, and there's only one way to get there—one way to be free of your sin and have a connection with God. This is because of Jesus Christ. Acts 4:12 says, "No one else can save you, because there is no other name under heaven by which you can be saved." You must trust in Jesus if you want to live forever in heaven. This is why: We all sin, which means that none of us measure up to God's perfect ideal. Romans 6:23 says that because of sin, people die. That means being cut off from God forever. But because Jesus never did anything wrong in His life, His death on the cross was the best way to pay for our sins. Because He overcame death by rising from the dead, we can have Eternal Life with God if we believe in Him.

Over the past 2,000 years, millions of people have learned that only Jesus can satisfy the deepest desires and wants of the human heart. Your Heavenly Mother

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home. John 19:25–27

The memorial we celebrate today, which was added to the Roman Liturgical Calendar in 2018 by Pope Francis, highlights the truth that the Blessed Virgin Mary is not only the Mother of the Person of Christ, and, therefore, the Mother of God, she is also the Mother of the Church, that is, the Mother of all the faithful. The Blessed Virgin Mary is your mother. And as your mother, she is truly tender, compassionate, caring and merciful, bestowing upon you everything that a perfect mother desires to bestow. She is the fiercest of mothers who will stop at nothing to protect her children. She is a mother wholly devoted to you, her dear child.

The Gospel passage chosen for this memorial depicts our Blessed Mother standing at the foot of the Cross. She would have been no other place than directly beneath her son as He endured His last agony. She did not flee in fear. She was not overwhelmed by grief. She did not sulk in self-pity. No, she stood by her son with the perfect love and strength of a devoted, caring, compassionate and faithful mother.

As she stood by her son in His hour of suffering and death, Jesus turned to her and entrusted the Apostle John to her maternal care. From the early Church Fathers until the most recent teachings of the Church today, this act of entrusting John to Mary and Mary to John by Jesus has been understood as an entrustment of all the faithful to the maternal care of Mother Mary. Mother Mary is, therefore, not only the Mother of the Redeemer, Christ Himself, she also becomes the Mother of all the redeemed, the mother of us all, the Mother of the Church.

Consider the spiritual mother you have in Heaven. A mother is one who gives life. Your mother in Heaven is entrusted with the task of bestowing upon you the new life of grace won by the Cross. And as your mother, she will not withhold anything from you that is to your benefit. A mother is also one who is tender with her children. The Immaculate Heart of our mother in Heaven is one that is filled with the greatest tenderness toward you. Though her caresses are not physical, they are much deeper. She caresses with the tenderness of grace which she imparts to you as you pray and turn to her in your need. She gives you the grace of her son, poured out upon the Cross as the blood and water sprung forth as a font of mercy. Mother Mary pours that mercy upon you as a tender and devoted mother would. She holds nothing back.

If you are unaware of the love in the heart of our Blessed Mother for you, use this memorial as an opportunity to deepen your understanding of her role in your life. Many children take their mothers for granted, not fully understanding the depth of their love. So it is with our Mother in Heaven. We will never fully comprehend her love and her constant motherly workings in our life until we join her in Heaven face to face.

Reflect, today, upon Mother Mary standing by you in every moment of your life. See her there in your joys and in your sorrows, during your moments of temptation and struggles, in your moments of confusion and clarity. See her there by your side, bestowing every good spiritual gift upon you when you need it the most. She is a true mother, and she is worthy of your love and gratitude.

my dearest Mother, you stood by your son with unwavering fidelity and love. You cared for Him, nurtured Him and never left His side. I also am your dear child. I thank you for your loving fidelity toward me and open my heart to the grace of your son that you bestow upon me throughout life. Help me to be more attentive to your motherly care and to daily grow in gratitude for your presence in my life. Mother Mary, pray for us. Jesus, I trust in You.

The Glory of GOD
According to Scriptures, the glory of GOD is the manifestation of His splendour and grandeur (1 Chronicles 29;11).  It is the beauty of His Spirit that manifests His holiness (Exodus 15:11).  The glory of GOD expresses His presence and awesome power.  As seen in the Old Testament, the manifestation of GOD's glory is usually accompanied by fire (Exodus 19:18).  As the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle in Exodus 40:34, 35 so also it filled the temple in 1 Kings 8:10-11.  GOD's shekinah glory was with and led the children of Israel throughout their wilderness journey into the promised land (Exodus 40:36-38). 
 
While the glory of man is temporal.  It is like grass and as the flowers of the field that withers and falls away (1 Peter 1:24).  The glory of GOD on the other hand, is everlasting just as His words are forever settled in heaven (1 Peter 1:25; Psalm 119:89).  Believers should seek the glory of the One whose glory is eternal and never fades.  This glory is in His son JESUS CHRIST.  John 1:14 says that "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." JESUS CHRIST is the radiance of GOD’s glory as well as the express image of His Father (Hebrews 1:3).  The glory of GOD as manifested in His son is the believer's hope of eternal life and glory (Colossians 1:27). 
 
The glory of GOD emanates from His name and character. We have to give GOD the glory due to His Name and worship Him in the beauty of His holiness (Psalm 29:2).  The works and the creations of GOD manifests His glory (Psalm 19:1-3) so much so that those who refused to acknowledge His supremacy and Lordship are indicted: "for the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.  20 for the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse" (Romans 1:18-20).
 
The act of worship of GOD in His glory by a worshipper must emanate from a heart that is aligned with the heart of GOD (Psalm 24:3-5; 51:17; 66:18). Romans 12:1-2 admonishes that true worship of the glorious GOD begins with a total commitment to Him through the presentation of our bodies as a channel whereby the righteousness of GOD is manifested.  The true worshipper must resist the temptation to be lured into this present world system, thinking, values and conduct.  He must according to Romans 6:13, yield the members of his body as instruments of righteousness unto GOD.
 
I pray GOD to grant us the grace to glory only in Him and worship Him in the beauty of holiness in JESUS’ name. Amen.

Gestures of Love


Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying: “I pray not only for these, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me.” John 17:20–21

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been continually reading from Chapter 14–17 of John’s Gospel. These chapters contain Jesus’ Last Supper Discourses and provide us with Jesus’ last sermon, so to speak. Chapter 17, which we have been reading this past week, presents us with Jesus’ final prayer for His disciples and for all of us “who will believe” in Him through the preaching of the disciples. Each time we read from Chapter 17, the Lectionary begins the reading with the phrase “Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying…” That line is an adaptation of Chapter 17:1 but is used to introduce the various parts of the prayer of Jesus each time it is read at Mass.

It’s interesting that Jesus would look up to Heaven when He prayed. Of course, Heaven is not physically in the sky, because Heaven is a spiritual reality. The Father is not located in some place in the sky but is omnipresent, meaning, present all places and all times. And yet, Jesus raises His eyes upward when He prays to the Father. There is a great lesson in this.

Our physical disposition is important, at times. for example, when someone we owe respect to enters a room, we usually rise and greet them. It would be disrespectful to remain lounging on a bed or sofa in that case. And at Mass, we do not sit back with legs crossed during the Consecration; rather, we kneel in adoration. And when we greet someone for the first time, we do not look at the floor; rather, we look them in the eyes.

Jesus’ act of “Lifting his eyes to heaven” was not done because He thought He might see the Father in the sky; rather, it was done out of respect and love and as a way of acknowledging the dignity of the Father. This should teach us about our own bodily disposition and the message we communicate to others, especially to God in prayer.

When you pray, what do you do? Though you can pray at any time and while in any disposition, it is an excellent practice to speak to God not only by your words but also by the disposition you take. Kneeling, raising hands in prayer, falling prostrate before your Lord, sitting upright with attentiveness, etc., are all ways in which you communicate to God your love.

Reflect, today, upon this image of Jesus praying. Gaze at how attentive He would have been as He lifted His sacred eyes upward as a physical gesture honoring the glorious, all-powerful Father in Heaven. Try to imagine Jesus’ devotion, intensity, respect and burning love. Imitate this holy gesture of prayer and attentiveness to the Father and remind yourself of the importance of expressing your love in bodily form.

my most holy Father in Heaven, I do join Your son, Jesus, in lifting my eyes, my heart and my whole life to You in honor, love and respect. May I always be attentive to You and always show You the devotion due Your greatness. my dear Jesus, thank You for Your love of the Father in Heaven. Now here is my story

I lived with my father alone after my mothers death in a small town in the eastern part of Nigeria. Everyone around me loved me because of my intelligent and charisma.

We are not rich, but we don’t starve…yes,But even as we don’t starve which is the most important thing,I was still not happy and contented. I wanted more,I wanted to own a lot of things including good foods;at least better than the normal yams,beans and rice we ate on a daily bases..I wanted varieties. I am the type of guy who like enjoyment,I love good foods and good life.

I forgot to mention,I am a graduate from a reputable university in Nigeria and I made second class upper degree,yet I was jobless.
my father sold one from the only two lands he had just to see me through the university,that was the promise he made to my late mother on her sick bed;he assured her that their only child must be a graduate and a successful man.
my mother died when I was just a teenager, I had no idea life without a mother would be so difficult but I had to adjust,at least for my father.

This added to my frustrations and made me a terrible murmurer, i murmured and hissed like a woman; tufiakwa…

sometimes it annoys me seeing myself display those women traits but I didn’t care to change at all,after all god did not create murmuring for only women…I hated the fact that some of my friends were big boys in town and I was at home eating papa thanks sir,did you remain small?

One morning,I knelt down for the very first time to pray to God as I woke up, I was praying in Queens English and my voice sounded like Celine Dion, chaii..if not for one thing I would have entered studio that day meennn,fine boy with fine voice,I praised myself, but I felt God was not hearing my prayers I then decided to humble myself and prayed in pidgin English ;”God abeg na,abeg abeg ..help me na die I Dey…abeg please biko God,but nothing happened…my prayers were not answered, I was disappointed that my prayers were delaying. I wanted God to answer me immediately even though in my mind I knew I prayed rubbish.

On that Saturday morning, I was lamenting as usual because we were having yam porridge for breakfast,my father woke up early enough just to prepare that meal but instead of appreciating his efforts and strength I condemned the food as always…
I threatened my father that nothing would make me eat that rubbish in the kitchen..my father looked at me in dismay and looked up to heaven,then asked God “where did he get this boy from and sent to him as a son….
I became more angry,the way I get angry eh can be studied in the university as a course.

I can stand for hours hissing and murmuring,since I am jobless I can proudly say murmuring is what I do for a living.Any day I don’t whine,hiss and murmur in the house, my father will think I am dying and he would go to the chemist close to our house to get me some Malaria and Typhoid drugs and force me to take them. In his words,a living dog is better than a dead lion…
my father went ahead to dish his own Yam porridge since I refused to eat..well I didn’t care.

I had this friend that I was so close to,we call each other brother,he was more than a friend to me. We visited each other’s house and do a lot of things together. I always complained to him and he has tried severely to help my situation…on that faithful day he brought some news as usual, and I wish I could turn back the hands of time and not listen to him…but unfortunately, it was too late.

As for me, when I was in the University, I had a roommate, we were both deeply interested in becoming Spiritually Powerful. We started reading many Esoteric Books and Practising all the steps required for Soul-traveling. I imagined going out of my Body to Lecturers Office a week or two before Exams to spiritually Spy all the Exam questions so that I can read up and get first grades.

It should be noted that, even though most Witches, Wizards, Sapentine Agents, Marine Agents, etc. don't realize it, it is this same Principle of Astral Projection that they all use to go to their Coven meetings. The most important part of the Processes that leads up to Astral Projection is that the mind Must be Emptied of all thoughts as we stayed still and motionless. After which only humming of a Mantra is maintained. Soon, after which a Vibration would be sensed in the Room, and you will then feel a Tingling in your toe, finger or any particular part of your Body. It is after the Tingling that you will see your Soul floating out of your Body. As you turn to look at your Body lying on the bed, you will notice the Silver Cord that connects your Soul to your Body.

As you float out of your Room and drift/fly away, your Silver Cord keeps extending. All the Esoteric Books warned us strongly that the only thing to be feared in Astral World is Fear itself. Because there are Pletoral of very wicked Malevolent Demons that would most Probably be encountered. If you fear, they can hijack your Soul and the Silver Cord would break. If it breaks, it means automatic Death of the Person in Physical. This and Judgement from our CREATOR largely account for "Peaceful" death of many "Adventurous" Youths, Occultic Persons, Witches or Wizards that you heard that they died in their Sleep.

It was later when I became BornAgain that I realized the hidden Truth and Deception of Satan that even most of the Occultists, Witches and Wizards don't know, they too don't realize that they are being tricked and decieved by Satan and his Demons. Satan hates all Humanbeings with Equal Passionate Hatred, including all the Witches and Wizards that he uses to Destroy innocent Humans. And those he initially show fake love just to get them to become his human the tools. That is why he reveals himself to most demonic Rappers as the Baddest Bitch they could very imagine. And you will often hear them say this Game(Beast) ain't Loyal, he drops you as soon as he finishes sucking you dry and using you to Destroy as many Humans as possible.

No Humanbeing can ever Travel into the Spirit Realm without a Spirit coming to Take him/her out of the Body! Many of the Esoteric Books Sweet-tongued us into Believing that Humans are Supernatural Beings that are just yet to discover, uncover or recover their Supernatural Power. The writers as Satan's tools for Luring and Capturing new innocent Souls into Demonism always say they only want to Help us to discover the Spiritual Ability and Power that is already in us; Lies from the pit of Hell! This has lured a lot of "adventurous" Youths to become permanently spiritual Slaves to Demons and Tools for Satan to Wreck Havock among Humanity.

The Esoteric Books never told us the Truth! They never told us that it was an initiation Process, that the Mantra(chanting things that they don't tell us the Meaning or why) is actually summoning/invitation to a Demon to come and Take over the already Emptied and Submitted Mind/Soul, that the Vibration we felt in the Room was the Arrival of the Demon Spirit, that the Tingling was the Hooking up to the Human Soul by the Demon after which the Soul is pulled out. That the Demon Spirit hides behind as it pulls out your Soul from your Body to give you a very False Experience that you are the one Flying all by yourself.

During the disguised initiation process, why do the Esoteric Books mandate us to Empty our Minds or chant Mantras before being able to Astral-Project out of our bodies? Watchman Nee later helped me to understand that the Pure SPIRIT of our CREATOR will never seek to Take over a Man's Consciousness, only Satanic Spirits do that! Because Satan tries to hide from Humans that those Mantras are Invitation to Demon Spirit that comes to connect the Soul out of the Body and gives false impression of flying in the Spirit Realm. Till I became BornAgain, I never knew that Pure SPIRIT from our CREATOR too does exactly same to those that Completely Surrender to HIM through HIS son our MESSIAH.

It is a Fundamental Eternal Law which I AM THAT I AM Established: Humans were not Created to live in the Spirit Realm without Permission of a Spirit just as Spirits are not Created to live in our Physical Realm without Permission of Human. Psalm 115:16 "The highest Heaven belongs to I AM THAT I AM, but HE has given the earth to the descendants of Adam."

That is why a Demon that wants to Destroy a Family must lure one of them to become a Witch or Wizards which then serves as the Demon's Legitimate Link into Physical Human Realm to start Destroying Lives of those Family Members. Satan is completely powerless in our Physical World without any form of Human Cooperation. It is the Humans that submits to him out of foolish myopic Selfishness and Pride that betrays innocent Humanity into Satanic Bondage.

Of which most of the Sights the Demons shows them are largely Deceptions. I SEE into the Spirit Realm too to the Glory of MESSIAH that died at Golgotha for the Sin of Humanity to get us Reconciled back unto our CREATOR.

Sad to see what some foolishly trade their Eternal Soul to Satan for! Just because of their overbloated Ego and Pride to say they see what most People don't see is so sad. I often ask them "Is that Really worth your Eternal Life?!"

Despite allocating huge resources to the health sector, Nigerian leaders and politicians have continued their mistrust for the sector by abandoning it to rot, while flying abroad to treat the commonest of ailments at taxpayers’ expense in what stakeholders have described as medical tourism.

The health sector, like other major sectors in the country, has continued to suffer ups and downs, including industrial actions, low funding and low access to basic healthcare facilities among poor Nigerians.

The Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors, the umbrella body of doctors undergoing residency, announced the commencement of a five-day warning strike on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.

The strike, which has grounded activities in government-owned hospitals and health facilities, has left poor citizens, who cannot afford treatment in private health facilities, stranded.

This is not the first time doctors and other categories of health workers will embark on strike in the life of the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd).

In 2016, NARD, under the leadership of the then National President, Dr Muhammad Askira, embarked on an 18-day strike.

In 2017, the association, under the leadership of Dr John Onyebueze, again went on strike. The strike, which commenced on September 4, was suspended on September 17.

In 2020, NARD members, under the leadership of Dr Aliyu Sokomba, again embarked on a one-week nationwide strike on June 15 over the disengagement of 26 resident doctors at the Jos University Teaching Hospital, salary cuts and issues surrounding the Medical Residency Training Fund. The strike was eventually called off on June 22.

A year later, NARD initially embarked on a 10-day strike from April 1 to 10, 2021. Later in July of the same year, the association proceeded on a 60-day strike.

While the strikes persist, Buhari and his wife, Aisha, and their son, as well as the incoming President, Bola Tinubu; and the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress to become the Senate President in the 10th National Assembly, Godswill Akpabio, among other prominent politicians, continue to enjoy seamless healthcare in hospitals abroad.

Some of the benefiting countries of medical tourism by Nigerian politicians include the United Kingdom, the United States of America, France and India.

Though the amount spent by the politicians on medical tourism could not be obtained by our correspondent as of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority in 2021 said citizens spend an average of $1bn annually on medical tourism for a range of healthcare needs across four key specialities of oncology, orthopaedics, nephrology and cardiology.

In May 2019, Sergius Ose Ogun, a member of the House of Representatives, sponsored a bill seeking to prevent public officials from seeking medical treatment abroad. The bill sought to amend Section 46 of the National Health Act thus: “(1) A public officer of the Federal Government shall not embark on medical trip abroad without approval; or be sponsored for medical check-up, investigation; or treatment abroad at public expenses except in exceptional cases on the recommendation and referral by the medical board and which recommendation or referral shall be duly approved by the minister or commissioner as the case may be; or embark on medical trip abroad unless he satisfactorily proves to the office where the officer is working, that such ailment cannot be treated in Nigeria.”


Buhari’s family trips

Before he was sworn in as President eight years ago, Buhari, whose mantra was ‘Change’, visited the Chatham House in London in 2015, where he said, “What is the difference between me and those who elected us to represent them? Absolutely nothing! Why should a Nigerian President not fly with other Nigerian public? Why do I need to embark on foreign trip as a president with a huge crowd with public funds? Why do I need to go for foreign medical trip if we cannot make our hospitals functional? Why do we need to send our children to school abroad if we cannot develop our universities to compete with foreign ones?”

Eight months after assuming office in February 2016, Buhari embarked on a medical trip to the UK, where he spent a total of six days.

In April 2016, months after his first medical trip to London, Buhari condemned the use of Nigerian resources for international medical expenses.

Amidst criticisms, the retired general embarked on his second medical trip on June 6, 2016. He spent 10 days treating an undisclosed ear infection, after which he rested for three extra days before returning to Abuja on June 19, 2016 despite the availability of the National Ear Centre in the country.

On January 19, 2017, the President embarked on his second longest medical trip. Before leaving, however, he wrote to the Bukola Saraki-led Senate revealing his plan to travel to London for a 10-day vacation.

In the letter, Buhari said he would hand over to his deputy, Prof Yemi Osinbajo. Though the medical holiday was due to commence on January 23, 2017, the President left Abuja the same day.

He returned to Abuja on March 10, 2017, after spending 50 days away.

In May of the same year, barely two months after his last trip, the President departed for London for his longest medical pilgrimage lasting 104 days.

It is still unclear what ailment he was being treated for, but Nigerians were asked to “pray” for the President.

What followed were speculations and misinformation about his health status, with some presuming him dead and replaced with a body double.

The long treatment must have helped as the President would not visit London for another medical check-up until a year later in May 2018 when he spent four days on “medical review.”

In late March 2021, Buhari departed for London again for a “routine medical check-up” that lasted 15 days.

His trip came amid a labour crisis in the health sector, which saw members of NARD embarking on an indefinite strike over unpaid allowances.

On March 6, 2022, the President jetted out to London again for a medical trip, which lasted 12 days.

Earlier, Buhari was scheduled to visit London from Nairobi, Kenya, where he was attending the United Nations Environmental Programme at 50.

He, however, returned to Nigeria on Friday March 4, 2022 but departed for London two days later.

The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, had announced that Buhari would proceed to London from Kenya for “routine medical checks that will last for a maximum of two weeks.”

On October 31, 2022, the President departed Owerri, the Imo State capital, for London for another medical check-up lasting about two weeks and returned to the country on November 13, 2022.

The President’s spokesman had, times without number, defended Buhari’s medical trips abroad, saying he “has used the same medical team for about 40 years.”


Recently, the Presidency noted again that Buhari visited a hospital abroad to take care of his tooth.

The President is not alone in medical tourism as his wife, Aisha, was flown to Dubai in August 2020 over a “persistent neck pain.”

Similarly, their son, Yusuf, was in 2018 flown abroad for treatment after he was involved in a power bike accident.

In August 2020, Buhari’s nephew, Mamman Daura, was also flown to the UK for medical treatment.

The President-elect, Bola Tinubu, is no stranger to medical tourism.

The former Lagos State governor spent a total of 90 days in the UK in 2021 following a knee surgery.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the last election, Atiku Abubakar, was flown to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in December 2015.

Similarly in October 22, 2023, Atiku also jetted out to France for what was simply tagged “medicals.”

Earlier, the former vice-president in December 2022 noted that the limitations in the healthcare system at home would not allow him to patronise hospitals in the country.

In June 2022, former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, was flown to an undisclosed hospital abroad for back surgery.

The outgoing Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, in 2020 was flown to Berlin, Germany, for treatment. He has undertaken multiple medical trips abroad since then.

Akpabio, in a letter sent to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on March 27, 2023, disclosed that he did not honour the anti-graft agency’s invitation because he was undergoing medical treatment abroad.

In September 2015, Akpabio, who was the then Senate Minority Leader, travelled abroad for medical treatment after sustaining injuries in a car crash.

In March 2022, the Governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni, returned from a medical trip to the United Kingdom.

In August 2020, a former military dictator, Abdulsalam Abubakar, returned to the country after spending about three months abroad for medical treatment.

The Nigerian Army in April 2018 announced that seven of its men, who sustained injuries fighting Boko Haram, were flown to India for proper care.

In June 2018, the senator representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District of Ekiti State, Opeyemi Bamidele, was flown to the UK for treatment in a private jet belonging to Tinubu.

Bamidele and five others were shot at a reception rally organised for the All Progressives Congress candidate.

In November 2017, the Presidency announced that Buhari approved an immediate overseas medical treatment for former Vice-President, Alex Ekueme.

In August 2016, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Economic Matters deployed to the Vice-President’s office, Ayodele Adu, died in an Indian hospital.

A former governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, confirmed the death of the presidential aide in a condolence message issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Olayinka Oyebode.

The list of prominent politicians and Nigerians who have embarked on medical tourism over the years is inexhaustible.


NARD condemns medical tourism

A former Vice-President of NARD, Dr Julian Ojebo, in an interview with Saturday PUNCH flayed politicians for travelling abroad for medical conditions that could easily be diagnosed and treated in Nigeria.

Ojebo lamented the poor state of health institutions in the country.

He said, “When it comes to the amount spent on medical tourism, the data available is underreported. We need to understand that the population is divided into low, middle and upper classes. Members of the low and middle classes, who are forced to go abroad for treatment, go to low income Asian countries like India and they spend roughly $800m to $900m.

“However, we have the rich and politicians, and these are the one per cent of the one per cent. These ones go to Europe. Recently, the President-elect went to France. for that category of people, we cannot even get the data.

“Medical tourism has impacts on our economy, how the world views us and on the quality of healthcare service delivery at home. When these politicians go abroad and they get their medical treatment, they tend to forget and not care about the situation back home. Yes, we also have good private institutions now like Duchess Hospital and Nisa Premier, but how many of those at the lower class can afford their services?

“How many of our public hospitals have functional MRI machines? Our politicians cannot continue to go abroad for medical conditions that can be diagnosed and even treated in Nigeria. The money taken abroad, if injected into our health system, will go a long way in reviving the sector.”

Similarly, the National President, Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, Dr Victor Makanjuola, said, “Medical tourism is a scourge with a very negative impact on the Nigerian health sector. It has been estimated that this phenomenon costs the country over $1bn annually.

“Other than the direct benefits to the ill individuals, medical tourism impairs the corporate health of the nation.

“It is partly responsible for the poor funding of the health sector with attendant poor healthcare delivery to average Nigerians. This is because most of the people who engage in medical tourism are politicians and senior public servants (usually at the expense of taxpayers) and are also the ones expected to mobilise resources for the local health sector. This results in chronic underfunding of the health sector.

“Indirectly, medical tourism negatively impacts the economy of the country through capital flight, increasing the demand for foreign currencies significantly, and contributing to a negative trade balance for the country.”

THE STORYLINE
THE SEAT OF GLORY is a story of a youngman named Kolade. He has a special seat which he inherited from his father who also inherited it from his own father and down to their ancestors. It was believed that the seat is the symbol of the glory of the family. It was handed down from generation to another generation because it had not yet gotten to the person destined to activate the glory. It was told to Pa Akinsakin who was Kolade's father that Kolade was the one foretold by the oracle to unveil the glory but the procedure was not communicated to him by his father.
The seat of glory has been with Kolade wrapped in white cloth. It was carefully placed in his room with an instruction that prohibits any member of the family to go near it. Few years later, Kolade was in serious financial problem. He was known in the town to be lazy, jobless and always dependent on friends. He borrowed some money from one of his friends named Lanre for his family welfarism. He intended to pay back in three months but unfortunately for Kolade, he couldn't pay back because he had no other source of income. The debt became a heavy yoke on him till Lanre got angry and brought two hefty body guards to get his money. He couldn't get the money that day but with the help of his guards, he snatched Kunle who was Kolade's son and took him away from his parents as ransom for the N50,000 that Kolade borrowed. Kolade and his wife couldn't believe what Lanre did. Also, there was nobody to defend or assist them financially for the rescue of Kunle. So Kolade went out for help. He met a friend and begged for financial assistance. The friend, Tobi suggested that Kolade should consult a Pastor, an imam or an Ifa priest that would deliver him from all his challenges because he sensed that Kolade's financial problem had a spiritual undertone. Kolade ignored Tobi's advice and met another friend who was a farmer coming from his farm. Lakunle advised Kolade to go see an old woman who lived in the outskirt of the town very close to the deep forest. She was known for loaning money to people. Kolade found this interesting. He quickly went to meet the old woman for money. The old woman demanded for the special seat in Kolade's house as a collateral for the loan. At first, Kolade was surprised that the old woman got to know about the seat he inherited from his father but he never fretted about giving her the seat for the money. The deal between Kolade and the old woman was that, Kolade wanted to borrow N50,000 but the old woman wanted to lend him N100,000 so he could pay the debt of N50,000 and use the balance to start up a small business. There was an agreement that the borrowed money must be returned the same day in the next two months but in the meantime, the seat of glory will be in the custody of the old woman. for the eagerness of Kolade, he went straight home to bring the seat and gave it to the old woman. She collected it and gave Kolade the money he requested for with a warning that if he failed to return the money he borrowed at the appointed time, he should forget his seat in her custody.
Kolade accepted. He went straight to Lanre's house and got his son back. He also used the remaining money to set up a small retail business for his wife according to the advice of Mama but unfortunately for him, the business did not make progress. It happened that all the food stuffs that were meant to be sold out to make profit were used as the meal of the family. It got to the time for Kolade to return the money, he could not. So he abandoned the seat with the old woman. Then his suffering became double. He started making findings to get another help out his predicament. Tobi came to the rescue. He lured him to see a man of God whom he recently heard of. The pastor told him about the essence of the seat and he added that Kolade needed the help of Christ to deliver the seat from the old woman and without the seat, it would be difficult for Kolade to be successful in life. The Pastor told Kolade that the glory embedded in the seat will only be activated by fasting and prayers but first we have to get the seat from the evil woman.
On the final saga of the story, Kolade and his wife went to the old woman with the money to return it and retrieve the seat. The old woman reminded Kolade of the agreement they had on their transaction. Mama Kunle, Kolade's wife stirred up an argument with the old woman. The old woman got angry and turned her into a barking dog. Few seconds before then, Kolade too had started exchanging words with the old woman, he wanted to run into the old woman's hut to take the seat, the woman struck him with the rod in her hand. Kolade ran away as fast as he could and few minutes later, he returned with the pastor. Pastor Sam was surprised when he saw Mama Kunle barking like a dog. He laid his right hand on her head as he spoke in tongues. After some seconds, the Pastor shouted the name of Jesus and Mama Kunle returned to normal. Pastor chastised Kolade for the foolish act for coming to challenge the old woman instead of following his lead. Kolade said he had prayed with his wife before coming but the Pastor insisted that it was not to just pray but to follow due procedures as laid down by the spirit of God. The Pastor returned to the old woman. He talked with her with intention to make her handover the seat in peace but the old woman was adamant. She started reciting some incantations. The Pastor too continued to pray and speak in tongues. The old woman wanted to hit the pastor with the rod in her hand but the pastor stretched the Bible in his hand towards the old woman and with a loud shout of the name of Jesus, the old woman fell gradually and began to cry begging the Pastor not to kill her. She ordered that Kolade should go and carry his seat and all of them should leave her domain at once. The Pastor went into the old woman's house to bring the seat. He gave it to Kolade and they left the presence of the old woman who laid on the ground like a dead person. Few years later, Kolade had prayed and fasted according to the instructions of the Pastor. He became a rich man who owned a big factory where he employed many youths of the town and beyond. He built a mall for his wife, his children were doing great in school and everybody around him benefited from his success. Because of Kolade, the people of the community learnt a lesson that a nobody can still become somebody.

Some notable lessons from the story
- Good inheritance should be handed down to new generation not the other way round.
- Hard work is best appreciated not depending on others
- Loaning money except for the intention of investment is not a reasonable thing.
- It is wrong to look down on people. No one knows tomorrow.
- Don't lend people money that you cannot give out for free. It can lead to conflict if the person finds it difficult to pay back.
- If it is necessary that you borrow money, make sure it is from someone that you know and trust. A strange lender could be very dangerous.
- In any difficulty a person finds himself, God is the best way out.
- A nobody can still become somebody. Treat people with fairness.
