In a bid to promote financial inclusion in the country,
Guaranty Trust Bank Plc on Wednesday unveiled social
banking service on popular social networking site, Facebook.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony centre in Lagos, the
Managing Director (M.D) and Chief Executive Officer
( C.E.O), GTBank, Mr. Segun Agbaje, said the service would
allow the public to open accounts and get customer service
support via Facebook.
He said the bank’s objective was to engage members of the
public where they worked, lived, stayed or played, adding,
“The service will enable persons on social networks like
Facebook to commence a banking relationship and perform
transactions 24/7, safely and conveniently, without having to
leave the platform.”
Agbaje said the service presently only allowed people to open
GTBank accounts, but pointed out that the bank would
introduce new service options that included money transfers,
airtime purchases and bill payments.
The GTBank boss added that the institution was committed to
the convenience of its stakeholders and would continue to
introduce value-adding alternative channels in the future.
“GTBank has been at the forefront of industry innovations
within the Nigerian financial service sector over the last 22

recognised online/social channels as an emerging service
point, and has over one million followers on Facebook; the
largest for any African bank,” Agbaje said.
The bank recently introduced the GTBank mobile money that
allows customers and non-customers to perform transfers,
payments and other transactions from their mobile phones to
any mobile phone subscriber in the country.

Health / HIV Cured In Baby For The First Time: Scientists by sestob(m): 4:18pm On Mar 04, 2013
Researchers say they have, for the first time, cured a baby born
with HIV -- a development that could help improve treatment
of babies infected at birth.
There is an important technical nuance: researchers insist on
calling it a "functional cure" rather than a complete cure.
That is because the virus is not totally eradicated. Still, its
presence is reduced to such a low level that a body can control
it without the need for standard drug treatment.
The only fully cured AIDS patient recognized worldwide is the
so-called "Berlin patient," American Timothy Brown. He is
considered cured of HIV and leukemia five years after
receiving bone marrow transplants from a rare donor naturally
resistant to HIV. The marrow transplant was aimed at treating
his leukemia.
But in this new case, the baby girl received nothing more
invasive or complex than commonly available antiretroviral
drugs. The difference, however, was the dosage and the timing:
starting less than 30 hours after her birth.
It is that kind of aggressive treatment that likely yielded the
"functional cure," researchers reported Sunday at the 20th
annual Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic
Infections (CROI) in Atlanta, Georgia.
What researchers call dormant HIV-infected cells often re-start
infections in HIV-infected patients within a few weeks after
antiretroviral treatment stops, forcing most people who have
tested HIV-positive to stay on the drugs for life or risk the
illness progressing.
"Prompt antiviral therapy in newborns that begins within days
of exposure may help infants clear the virus and achieve long-
term remission without lifelong treatment by preventing such
viral hideouts from forming in the first place," said lead
researcher Deborah Persaud, of Johns Hopkins Children's
Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
It appears to be the first time this was achieved in a baby, she
said.
The baby was infected by her HIV-positive mother, and her
treatment with therapeutic doses of antiretroviral drugs began
even before her own positive blood test came back.
The typical protocol for high-risk newborns is to give them
smaller doses of the drugs until results from an HIV blood test
is available at six weeks old.
Tests showed the baby's viral count steadily declined until it
could not longer be detected 29 days after her birth.
The child was given follow-up treatment with antiretrovirals
until 18 months, at which point doctors lost contact with her
for 10 months. During that period she was not taking
antiretrovirals.
Researchers then were able to do a series of blood tests -- and
none gave an HIV-positive result.
Natural viral suppression without treatment is an exceedingly
rare occurrence, seen in fewer than half a percent of HIV-
infected adults, known as "elite controllers," whose immune
systems are able to rein in viral replication and keep the virus
at clinically undetectable levels.
Experts on HIV have long wanted to help all HIV patients
achieve elite-controller status. Researchers say this new case
offers hope as a game-changer, because it suggests prompt
antiretroviral therapy in newborns indeed can do that.
Still, they said, their first priority is learning how to stop
transmission of the virus from mother to newborn. ARV
treatments of mothers currently stop transmission to newborns
in 98 percent of cases, they say.
"Our next step is to find out if this is a highly unusual response
to very early antiretroviral therapy or something we can
actually replicate in other high-risk newborns," Persaud pointed
out.
The research was funded by the National Institutes of Health
and the American Foundation for AIDS Research.

Nairaland / General / Solution To Painful Memories by sestob(m): 6:22pm On Mar 03, 2013

PAINFUL MEMORIES :

What hurts the most is that the memories I used to hold so close to me are now the memories I wish I could forget forever. When you lose someone you love, either by choice or just by circumstance, it is inevitably very difficult on a person emotionally, physically, and spiritually. The grief from a break up, or the death of a close loved one is obviously a very trying time for a person, and can be some of the hardest days of a person's life. There are a few things to remember when going through situations such as these.
Remember that it is okay to grieve, crying is a good way to release the pain of losing someone, and laughing at the good times and fun memories you shared is also a good coping mechanism. It is also important to remember that everything happens for a reason, and to take everything you learned from the relationship you shared with that person you just broke up with, or lost unexpectedly, and use that life experience to better yourself and your future. Though it may be fresh on your mind just try your hardest to remember that this is just a season in your life, everyone faces difficulties and setbacks, but it's how you overcome them that makes you who you are. Life goes on...

There are 5 questions for the passage which will not come in ascending other. So the tip is each question and answer is under each paragraph. Meaning when u want to answer the rest question after the number one. Goto next paragraph for next question. Inshort each paragraph each questions. Religion / Who Mocked God by sestob(m): 3:59pm On Feb 25, 2013
TRUE DOCUMENTED STORY
WHO mocked God :
John Lennon (Singer):
Some years before, during his interview with an American
Magazine, he said: ‘Christianity will end, it will disappear. I
do not have to argue about that.. I am certain. Jesus was ok,
but his subjects were too simple, today we are more famous
than Him’ (1966).
Lennon, after saying that the Beatles were more famous than
Jesus Christ, was shot six times.
Tancredo Neves (President of Brazil ):
During the Presidential campaign, he said if he got 500,000
votes from his party, not even God would remove him from
Presidency. Sure he got the votes, but he got sick a day before
being made President, then he died.
Cazuza (Bi-sexual Brazilian
composer, singer and poet): During A show in Canecio ( Rio
de Janeiro ), while smoking his cigarette, he puffed out some
smoke into the air and said:’God, that’s for you.’ He died at
the age of 32 of LUNG CANCER in a horrible manner.
The man who built the Titanic After the construction of
Titanic, a reporter asked him how safe the Titanic would be.
With an ironic tone he said: Not even God can sink it’ The
result: I think you all know what happened to the Titanic
Marilyn Monroe (Actress) She was visited by Billy Graham
during a presentation of a show. He said the Spirit of God had
sent him to preach to her.
After hearing what the Preacher had to say, she said:
‘I don’t need your Jesus’. A week later, she was found dead in
her apartment
Bon Scott (Singer)
The ex-vocalist of the AC/DC. On one of his 1979 songs he
sang: Don’t stop me; I’m going down all the way, down the
highway to hell’. On the 19th of February 1980, Bon Scott
was found dead, he had been choked by his own vomit.
Campinas (IN 2005)
In Campinas , Brazil a group of friends, drunk, went to pick
up a friend….. The mother accompanied her to the car and
was so worried about the drunkenness of her friends and she
said to the daughter holding her hand, who was already seated
in the car: My Daughter, Go With God And May He Protect
You.’
She responded: ‘Only If He (God) Travels In The Trunk,
Cause Inside Here…..It’s Already Full ‘ Hours later, news
came by that they had been involved in a fatal accident,
everyone had died, the car could not be recognized what type
of car it had been, but surprisingly, the trunk was intact. The
police said there was no way the trunk could have remained
intact. To their surprise, inside the trunk was a crate of eggs,
none
was broken
Christine Hewitt (Jamaican Journalist and entertainer) said the
Bible (Word of God) was the worst book ever written. In June
2006 she was found burnt beyond recognition in her motor
vehicle.
Many more important people have forgotten that there is no
other name that was given so much authority as the name of
Jesus.
Many have died, but only Jesus died and rose again, and he is
still alive….
God can not be mocked… Act wisely

Science/Technology / Four Nigerian Students Generate Electricity From Urine by sestob(m): 8:39am On Feb 14, 2013
[img][/img]

Nothing is really a waste in the real sense of the word. Almost anything one can think of is reusable. Everything has some value one way or the other. This was what four teenage secondary school girls in Lagos set out to prove.

Disturbed by the incessant deaths of Nigerians, most of the time, an entire family, from carbon monoxide poisoning from fossil-fuel generator, the yo-yo movement of petroleum products prices, environmental degradation and the recent fuel subsidy scam, four Senior Secondary School II students of Doregos Private Academy, Ipaja, Lagos, decided to find solution to the problem. In a chat with Vanguard Learning, the girls – Duro-Aina Adebola, Bello Eniola, Akindele Abiola and Faleke Oluwatoyin, shed some some light on the project and what they hope to achieve. Excerpts:

An idea is born:
Said Duro-Aina Adebola, leader of the group; “I read on the internet that a family of five died of carbon monoxide poisoning so I asked myself what could be done to reduce these incessant deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning?

From left; Faleke Oluwatoyin, Duro-Aina Adebola, Akindele Abiola and Bello Eniola

From left; Faleke Oluwatoyin, Duro-Aina Adebola, Akindele Abiola and Bello Eniola

“We were always encouraged to bring up ideas to help solve human problems so one day, we were in the Guest Room of our school; we thought of what could be done to solve this problem. We thought of what we could use to power the generator instead of using the conventional fuel, something that can replace conventional fuels and that will not release any obnoxious substance like carbon monoxide into the environment; something that will also be cheap for Nigerians. You know that when the issue of fuel subsidy removal came up, there was hike in prices of petroleum products,” she said.

‘A problem well stated is a problem half solved,’ according to Charles Kettering, so having identified the problem, the girls moved on to seek solution.

“We started looking at various materials. We looked at water but we felt that the amount of voltage it will take to break the water molecule is large and we wanted something small so we can have a larger output. We decided to look at waste products because Nigerians always opt for something they won’t have to spend their money on. So we started looking at different materials, one of which was urine. We were looking for something that is liquid, something that has hydrogen molecules in it. We also observed that the amount of voltage it takes to break a urine molecule is less than the amount it takes to break the hydrogen molecule in water. So we opted for urine since we have a higher output,” she said.

The generator:
“The generator is a conventional fuel-based generator. It combusts slower than the hydrogen gas so we had to retard the ignition of the generator. We actually retarded the back-timing on the generator by 11 degrees.”

Components:
“We have an electrolytic cell, water filter, an empty gas can, borax and our retarded generator. The electrolytic cell is an old battery cell we got from the junk yard; we removed the contents of the cell and then used perforated stainless steel mesh as the electrodes so urine is placed in the electrolytic cell, where it is electrolysed, releasing hydrogen-oxygen gas mixture. This mixture then goes into the water filter. The water filter is to remove any impurities that might have come in with the gas and then it goes into an empty gas cylinder which serves as the gas storage.

“The gas cylinder pushes hydrogen into a cylinder of liquid borax, which is used to remove the moisture from the hydrogen gas. Borax serves as a drying agent and this is because we do not want lots of moisture going into the generator. Also, borax helps to remove any other impurities that might have come in with the gas. The purified hydrogen gas is then pushed into the generator,” she explained.

Asked how much it will cost to acquire a unit, she said; “It’s something we are still working on because this is a prototype which cost us about N4,000 apart from the generator. We are working on improving this so it can just be our own generator, a Nigeria-made generator that works based on urine.

Advantages: For this generator, the exhaust gas is the water vapour. It does not emit carbon monoxide like the normal fuel-based generator so this ensures clean environment for Nigerians. Again, one litre of urine can give you six hours of electricity.

Appeal:
“We are appealing to people to build up on what we have done. They should take up the idea and help us to improve on it so that it can be something that can be in every Nigerian home because this was not made to be lying around; it was made to be used by Nigerians. All we need is support so we can take it to the next level. We want a situation where every home can have this. We also want to make it compact so you don’t have to have different compartments, they can all be in a single unit that can just be attached to a generator.”

Other projects:
The students are currently working on other projects like bomb detecting radar, motor bike safety device and also paper from maize straw (agricultural waste), to save our trees and environment.

Sports / Is Wrestling Real, Fake, Acted, Or Drama?check Out by sestob(m): 5:35pm On Feb 04, 2013
Have you ever argued on wrestling with your friends and
family or seen people arguing if the so called wrestling we
watch is real or fake? I mean is it direct fight or its been
acted? Or better still Are World wrestling Entertainment
(WWE), formally known as World Wrestling Federation
(WWF), fights for real or a mere acting? We watch them
bleed, using chairs and other
dangerous objects, yet there is controversy over the
genuineness of the game. Some say it’s just an acting to
entertain while some argue all we watch on TV is real.
Characters created by the wrestlers and their promoters are
written into a story that provides general guidelines for how
the match is to be
conducted and how it is supposed to end.
In WWE, the matches are fixed. The winner is decided based
on the popularity of the wrestler and the fan response. WWE
is like a drama
with wrestlers playing different roles. All the matches are
based on a carefully written script. Chair blows, super kicks,
the wrestler writhing in pain etc. are all part of the drama.
WWE wrestlers are skilled professionals who deliver their
finishing moves in the safest possible way. But accidents do
happen and they result in injuries and blood.
In this sense, WWE wrestling is
entertainment, that’s why they change from WWF to WWE to
portry the E that stand for ENTERTAINMENT. Just as a
movie or a stage play would be, Many people pay to watch
this entertainment, knowing full well that it is scripted while
some don’t know.
Does that means that wrestling is fake? Its true that its been
acted and determined and the moves are choreographed.
Wrestlers aren’t really trying to beat up and injure each other.
The wrestlers enemies in the ring are really best friends, and
the outlandish stories sorrounding the characters are usually
not true. However calling wrestling “fake” is like calling an
action movie fake. When you see a movie, you know that the
actor didn’t really jump a burning car over an exploding
bridge, but you are still entertained.
Most wrestlers are exceptional athletes who train for many
hours each day to maintain their physical condition. They
practise for years to learn the moves and how to execute them
safely while still making it looks dangerous.
At this point I know you must have a say on this issue. Do
you believe its real, acted, fake, drama, choreography? What’s
your take and let’s hear your view via the comment box.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Alex Ferguson Plans To End FA Cup Drought by sestob(m): 11:38am On Jan 05, 2013
Alex Ferguson has set his sights on
ending Manchester United’s FA Cup drought as the 11-time
winners prepare to face West Ham in Saturday’s third round tie
at Upton Park.
United have not lifted English football’s oldest trophy since
2004 when they defeated Millwall in the final and have seen
Chelsea dominate the competition in recent years, winning four
of the last six tournaments.
Ferguson’s team have suffered with tough draws in recent
years and they lost at Liverpool last season after being beaten
by Manchester City in 2011.
But, with United in a strong position in the Premier League —
they sit seven points clear of second placed Manchester City —
Ferguson can confidently turn his attention to
making a winning start to the FA Cup campaign.
“Over the last three or four years we have had some really
difficult ties,” Ferguson said. “When the draw comes out you
hope for either a home tie or one you can navigate. This is a
particularly hard one.
“But I always feel, at a club like ours, the closer we get to
Wembley, the better we become.” United’s match at West Ham
is one of four all-Premier League ties, alongside West
Bromwich Albion’s trip to
Queens Park Rangers, Arsenal’s game at Swansea City, and
holders Chelsea’s match at Southampton.
Chelsea were stunned 1-0 by bottom club QPR in the Premier
League on Wednesday and interim coach Rafael Benitez has
admitted that his players are feeling the effects of the gruelling
Christmas season.
“I thought they were doing well and I thought that would be
fine, but maybe in odd areas we were tired,” he said. “You
could see we didn’t have the intensity and the pace on
the pass and the movement that we were expecting.”
Southampton, meanwhile, have shown signs of
improvement in recent weeks after a difficult start to the season
and avoided defeat for the third successive game by holding
Arsenal to a 1-1 draw on New Year’s Day.
Manchester City, United’s nearest rivals in the league, host
second-tier Watford, with the FA Cup one of only two trophies
they can now win after elimination from the League Cup and
the Champions League.
With many of the competition’s big names drawn against
fellow top-flight sides, the chances of a major upset have been
reduced, but seventh-tier Hastings United will hope to pull off
a shock at Championship side Middlesbrough.
Romantics will also hope to see Mansfield Town earn a place
in cup history when the team from the fifth-tier Conference
National host last season’s beaten finalists Liverpool on
Sunday.

Career / The Importance Of Having A Mentor by sestob(m): 11:59am On Jan 04, 2013
[img][/img]No matter how good you are at your craft, there really is
nothing like being able to have a mentor.
Most business owners and successful online entrepreneurs will
admit that a mentor was a big part of their success.
A lot of people feel like they can do everything on their own
and this is something that can lead to a lot of problems.
If you are serious about succeeding in life, you will need to
know the importance of having a mentor.
There really is nothing like having someone tell you that what
you are doing is wrong.
A lot of people go through life without having an idea as to
what they are doing and this is why it’s important to have
someone guide you.
Having a mentor will take you through the steps and let
you know if you make a mistake.
A mentor is someone that more experience and someone that
you can trust.
Remember that there are mistakes that you can commit without
you ever knowing about it and so that you will need to find the
right mentor.
In order to succeed, you will need to make sure that you find
the right mentor.
However, finding a mentor can be one of the toughest
things to do.
Though you might associate a “mentor” as someone that is
older than you, a good idea is to simply just worry about their
experience and knowledge.
The person does not need to be older but someone that can
truly guide you the right way. Whether it is your boss, teacher,
coach or even a family member, it is important that you choose
one correctly.
If you are serious about succeeding and being able to avoid
mistakes with your business or life in general, it is crucial that
you find the best mentor possible.

Sports / I’m Fit For Nations Cup — Mikel by sestob(m): 11:05am On Jan 04, 2013
Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has declared that he is fit for the
Africa Nations Cup holding in South Africa after a slight knee
complaint.
Mikel was pulled off late in the second half of an EPL game
against Norwich City after he suffered a knock on his knee.
But on Thursday he told MTNFootball.com that he was now
as fit as fiddle and ready for action to douse speculations
regarding his availability for this month’s continental
tournament.
“I am going to be at the Nations Cup as there is nothing to
worry about concerning the injury, it is over,” Mikel said.
“I am okay and fit for action. I am already looking forward to
play in the FA Cup game against Southampton. I was advised
by the doctor to rest it for the QPR game; otherwise I was
ready to play.” Injury ruled out the Chelsea star from the 2010
World Cup in
South Africa at the last minute and the midfielder again
reiterated that he will be at the Eagles training camp in Faro,
Portugal, on Saturday.
Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez said before the Queens Park
Rangers game that Mikel’s knee problem was not serious.
“Mikel missed the Everton clash due to a knee injury, but it is
not that serious,” Benitez said. Mikel and his compatriot Victor
Moses who also missed the 1-1 draw international friendly
against Catalonia are billed to travel to Portugal together
immediately after the cup game in
England.

Webmasters / Make Indirect Calls From Your Bbm Andall Chatting Application Free by sestob(m): 11:27am On Dec 19, 2012
What exactly is a call, call is just the
process of passing information from one person to another.
Today I wanted to make some important call to my brother, in
short I want to deliver a life saving message to him and when i
checked my wallet to buy recharge card that was when I
remembered I have spent the money. But as a sharp guy
something came to my mind and I tried it and it works out
perfectly. And that’s what I am sharing today for our members
to start enjoying.
As we all know that chatting applications are now so easy for
us to get and we can also choose from them all and at the
same time can have them all.
CHATTING APPLICATIONS THAT CAN PERFORM THIS
FUNCTIONS
BBM, 2GO, NIMBUZZ, SKYPE, SH MESSENGER,
EBUDDY AND ALL CHATTING APPLICATIONS
All you need to make this indirect call is either BIS for
blackberry users or MEGA BITE (MB) for symbian and java
users. Am going to show you what I did with BIS on
blackberry as example and you can just do the same with the
chatting application you have. You will also end up with same
result.
All I did was since I don’t have money to call but
I have BIS to browse.
I went to recording on my phone,
I recorded my voice as I was saying the entire
message I want to deliver to him in details
I saved and send it as files to him on BBM
He downloaded it and listen to it and he replied
me also using the same way.
And I was able to archive my aim without buying
any recharge card.
You can see that I used what I have to get what I want, that’s
why I have come up with this idea for you too to start making
your calls just the way I did since you all have chatting
applications and all
Chatting application support sending of files.
In case you encounter any problem, feel free to let me know
by dropping it as comment and if it works for you, remember
to drop a comment. Make sure you share for friends to enjoy
too. Am not selfish that’s why I shared it don’t be selfish too.
