I was a student of one of the Nigerian universities doing a diploma program. Almost two years into the program, the NUC scrapped diploma programs for universities. I was broken! So I decided to study abroad.

I applied for a visa to study in the US five times within a period of one year!
I couldn't get past the interviews cos I couldn't explain myself to the VO (kind of an introvert).
So I decided to try Canada once and if I didn't get the visa, I would give up any hope left of studying abroad. Fortunately my first application has just been approved.

I have never crossed Nigerian borders. That is, I have no travel history.

Observation:
I'm not a guru, but from my observation spending a lot of time on the US student visa thread and this Canada student visa thread;
The VOs know there is a 70% chance of we not returning to Nigeria after graduation, but they can't deny all applications based on this fact. So they want someone who shows potential of adding something positive to Canada, incase the person doesn't return to his/her country.
They key is just "self-hype". In my SOP, the way I hyped myself, you'ld think I thought Zuckerberg how to code.
(Hype yourself with sense sha)

Note: The above doesn't mean you should neglect saying you will come back to Nigeria. In my SOP, I stated some career opportunities for computer science graduates in Nigeria.

I fasted and prayed too. God did his part and I did mine. Thanks to God.

Special thanks to Frankreubben.
This guy went out of his way to teach me things I didn't know about the visa process. I too go ask am question!.. lol.... Thanks a lot brother.
Thanks to everyone who shared their profile and contributed in one way or the other to this thread.

To the hopefuls, "It shall end in praise!"

Hi nairalanders, I am a silent reader. I got to know about this group 6weeks ago. I got approval for student visa this morning and want to share my story.
I graduated bachelors in technology in Aerospace engineering india on that 31th of may 2018. I graduated with first class with gpa of 9.4/10 (or 4.7/5 Nigerian equivalent). I got admission to do my master in aerospace engineering for fall 2018 at concordia university. I applied for my first Canadian visa with 6 weeks left on my indian student visa. (At that time the processing time in india have climbed to 7weeks). After 5 weeks I withdraw my application in order not to
overstay my visa which will be a very bad thing for me and came back to nigeria. I defferd my admission to winter 2019 and applied for study permit in Nigeria paper route on Sep 17 ,2018. I started reading nairaland and boy O' boy i got freaking scared. After 5 weeks i got tired of all this and applied for fall 2019 intake at the best aerospace institute in france . This morning I got approval. Sidenote: I am not religious and the constant reliance on a supreme being to help your visa chances in this group got me a bit irritated. But I respect everyone's view and perspective.

Timeline:
Degree: masters in aerospace engineering
Submission date: 17 Sept 2018 with upfront medical and bio. ( I used the one I did in india for both medical and bio)
Submission type : paper route
Linked my application on the third day
Eligibility review started on the 22nd October.
Approval on 2nd November
Time taken 6 weeks and 4days

Even though there are 61 days left in the year, there’s still lot God can do in that time bc he took him just 7days to create the world.

May/June/July/August applicants, before this month runs out, things will turn out for good. Let’s keep believing & watch God suprise us all. Amen...HappyNewMonth

Hi everyone, I just received updated admission letter from the uni I applied to last night, the first one expired in September. My question is, will I add the new admission letter to my online Application I submitted since July 11, or they’ll request for it later on? Thanks in advance

Hephzibah2018:

Not just someone, a foreign national who is a student must work only part time hours (20hrs/week). A person with this status is expected to face their studies, which they must have described as their primary priority in their study visa application. You can only work full time hours ( 40hrs/week) during holidays ( Christmas, Easter, etc.) and when the school is not in study session.

Ok, thank you.

Hephzibah2018:

You will not need to collect an official work permit (hard copy like your study permit) to work 20hrs/week as a student. Just go to the nearest Service Canada Centre to you and ask to get your SIN number. Go with your international passport and Student permit. As a student with a SIN number, you're allowed to work only those number of hours. Please do not exceed working hours ever. I know better now. Except you mean a type of work permit separate from that which is associated with a study permit.

Why can’t someone exceed the working hours? Pls share more light on it

swisster:
Long post.

God has been faithful to me this year.here is my little story.

It all started last yr after graduating from Uni, i was thinking of d next step to take. traveling abroad has been a dream for me and it seems study visa is d best way to migrate to anoda country at least for my level.

So i started making my research on how to study in various countries like the England, Scotland, wales, canada etc. due to d high tuition fee in the UK nd their policy of students returning home immediately after studies, i just cancelled UK from my list den i focused more on Canada. luckily for me i got a school, i applied and i was given admission this yr February 9th. I also stumbled on this wonderful thread which really helped me tru my application process.

so, on March 6 this yr i applied tru paper route, i try my very best to put in a good application with the help i got here, unfortunately i got a rejection mail on the 29th of march. From d Nairobi DEMONS. stating their normal (they are not satisfied wit my travel history, purpose of visit).

I was really devastated, Immediately i order for my GCMS note to really knw the reasons for my refusal,i got d note bt it seems it is still d same reasons.

I was planning to re-apply again with more force. then a guy posted on this thread how he got Germany study visa. after several rejection from Canada, his testimony really got my attention, den i started following up the German thread from d previous part. so i was very lucky so many schools wer still up for winter ( which is oct) application, so i applied to 4 schools in Germany. (may 27th)

Well i don't want to miss out this year o. then in June 11 i got my first admission from one of the schools i applied, immediately, i book for interview in d German consulate and i got Aug 16th as my interview date.

In June 14th i submitted a second application in Canada, this tym tru online route. did my biometric on d 22nd of June, den i started to wait ooooooo. I waited August 16th came, i went for my German interview nd it was so so successful. well i was till hoping on cic to update me but nothing came up.

By September 5th, i got approval mail from th German embassy without funding my block account. then i say to myself God really want me to go to Germany o. i was still waiting for for cic to update me but nothing came up.

well to cut the long story short, i later funded my block account and my Germany student visa was issued.

i was not happy the way canada handle their applications,i hav to apply for withdrawal from cic last week but i haven't still here from them.

So d good news is that i will b going to Germany very soon.

while my cic is still processing only God knw wen those pipo go make decision, lol.

While i posted this long story, is to encourage many of people here, who hav gotten rejection from cic mostly from d Nairobi *D*. plz don't giv up on ur dream of traveling abroad for studies. try nd search oda countries u might b lucky.

so many pipo hav applied to cic more than 3 times and still get rejected, even after putting in a very nice application.

don't give up.

I am very grateful to dat guy who posted his testimony here which gave me d idea abt Germany.

i posted this here to encourage sum1 in this thread.

When one door closes, well dat is not d ryt door.

bliv me they are so many things bhind my success story but d key factor is dat tru out d process from the beginning of diz year i hav been praying so so hard, and thank God it ended in praise.

thanks to all d ogas
Frankrobben, jYunwa. mekano nd d rest. u guys hav really been helpful. make God grant u ur heart desires.

It is my prayer that those still waiting for cic, will get a positive reply.

God bless you all.

Congratulations, God really want you there.
