*Governor Dave Umahi: A Leprosy To The Growth And Development of Ebonyi State University* It is five years and five months of Umahi as a Governor of Ebonyi State and the Ivory Tower ever valued and cherished by all and sundry can’t breathe again because of his unfriendly and callous approaches to handling of the activities of the University. Recall that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is an umbrella body housing the academic staff of public universities in Nigeria (Federal and State). As a union of intellectuals, ASUU seeks not only the socio-political and economic interest of its members within the framework of promoting the cause of university education in Nigeria, but also holds government to a standstill over the revitalization of Nigerian Universities. In the wake of this struggle, government saw the need to establish Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), which is simply a fund for training and retraining of the university staff and revitalization of universities’ infrastructural development both the federal and the state owned universities. Regrettably, the information available on our desk is that the sectional TETFUND monies (billions of naira) allocated to Ebonyi State University has been diverted severally by the same man who is vehemently bent on destroying the labor of our heroes. When we went for our fact finding tour in the University, a concerned staff who preferred anonymity took us to the abandoned TETFUND faculty building and said “…this is the handiwork of a man that refused to fund the university, yet can’t allow a TETFUND allocation of the university to be.” In a nutshell, Dave has STIFFED and SNUFFED the Ivory Tower that was once the pride of the salt city. We also gathered that five good years of Dave’s reign as the governor of Ebonyi State, staff promotion (Academic and Non-academic) of the university has been stagnated, and few of his cronies that were promoted never had any financial benefit as at the time of filling this report. Consequently, there has been an inglorious exodus of the academic staff of the university to the AE-FUNAI, many of which were trained in Europe and America by the founder of the Ivory Tower Sam Ominye Egwu, PhD, and whose mantra was “Education is the solution to our backwardness.” Oh! We have lost it!! We were informed too, that as at 2015 governor Dave took over office, that the subvention of the university was three hundred and fifty million naira (#350,000,000), but has slashed it to one hundred and seventeen million naira (#117,000,000). And I ask, who advised Dave of this inglorious visit in EBSU? Aren’t you aware that university is not a profit making venture, rather a long term investment plan geared towards human development? For anything to worth the name “development”, must hitherto, be able to have a corresponding impact on the lives of those involved. If there are building in schools for instance, without a corresponding manpower to teaching the students, it is simply “hollow” and baseless. On this note Your Excellency, we know that your children are in Europe and America, and consequently has nothing to do with the Ivory Tower, but look with pity upon us, our younger ones, and generations unborn and consolidate on the dreams of the founder-SENATOR, EGWU because undoubtedly, education is the most potent weapon for any country that wishes to develop. And know it too, that the political Professor, Chigozie Ogbu whom you handpicked as the Vice Chancellor of the University of course, he is your brother is not a regular university class room Professor, hence has no university administrative acumen to carry on with the extant rules guarding university system in Nigeria. Hopefully, you did it because of your calculated and envisioned plan to snuff the Ivory Tower. How can a University be so down not to have a functional WiFi even in the administrative building? During our fact finding tour, we entered one of the principal officers’ office, and they were shamelessly asking for who to on a hotspot for them to access official document in email, and I was shocked to bone marrow. EBSU is dead! They took us too, Your Excellency, to where you colonized and built multiples of storey buildings (hostels) as a personal asset in the university land while the university itself has no students’ hostel. Who told you that you are going to be a lifetime governor? Now we know all these things, be rest assured that you are not God and surely we will ask questions in just two years and seven months. In our last outing, we queried your blunt refusal to pay EBSU staff their salaries for four months now, why the principal officers not having official cars, poor funding, and your personal attachment to the university as it should be a world of its own. I leave you with the famous dictum of Martin Luther King Jr. “…the Western arrogance of feeling that it has everything to teach others and nothing to learn from them is not just.” Heed to advice |

Olalan: This country is a big joke, everyday thousands of people leave Lagos, and thousands enter Lagos, forget the yeye lockdown. |

asobo: This is serious |

densiks: But the fake news is necessary right? You really want to underestimate the power of those publications and the damages? When government is busy trying to develope the state and attract investors, someone will sit somewhere to destroy all the efforts, why don't they investigate before publishing? We are proud to have a governor that pays attention to everything no matter how little. The Governor understands the implications of those publications. Let the journalists do their investigations properly. |

Wisdomkosi: I think it is very wrong for the writer to use the word fugitive, but people need to obey the law |

etebefia: I don't know what to tell you, Umahi hardly sleeps. He personally supervised compliance to border closure yesterday at Cross River axis, IMO/ Okigwe axis. He went from Church to Church, and most of the hotels here. It seems you are envious 9 Likes |

That's empowerment, if you have anything against that, please hold your peace. These people where chosen from all over the state. |

USA a criminal country that don't want anyone to challenge them in any area. Take the case of Huawei. They see threat from the way Onyema is moving. They want all nations to be their servants. I blame our government for always dancing to their music. Tomorrow you government agencies running to do USA favour by obeying their commands in this case just to curry their favour because of their electoral fraud. God pass them. 2 Likes |

The criminals on high way, the most useless organization and lawlessness enforcement agency in Nigeria. They were chasing the man because he didn't give them money not because he committed any offense. RIP to the dead |

But I like the fact that he did not carry battalion of police with him. The truth is that it difficult to satisfy Nigerians. Please go and buy ticket and contest for governor. Some criticize both bad and good things. Nawaooo |

You guys are crazy |

Any state that is badly governed should apply to Ebonyians for the release of David Umahi for them just Two years. Give Dave Akwa Ibom, Lagos or Rivers and see wonders in Nigeria. Give him Bayelsa and see miracle. 3 Likes |

This is just another exercise. The petitionner is expressing his anger, he is also trying to expose the irregularities that occurred in 2019 election. But i doubt if any judge in Nigeria has the audacity to nullify a presidential election. Atiku is definitely not coming 5 Likes |

Why not protest against herdsmen that have been raping and killing innocent citizens. Are they not human? U are protesting against mere allegation. Wasted effort. |

Like him or hate him, he is a 5star Governor. The game changer and the man wey sabi. Allow him peace to work. His services now and here in Ebonyi is more important than that of 2023. Ebonyi is on the rise under Akubaraoha. My governor! My Pride!! |

This petition is going no where, there is no electronic voting in our electoral act, as such, the petitioner can't prove any irregularities. The moment the president refused to sign the bill, he won the election. 2 Likes |

quote author=FiftyFifty post=75365365]Nobody on this planet earth can satisfy these greedy ASUU members. Their members are good for nothing except may be sleeping around with both married and unmarried students. You hardly hear them when it comes to research and innovation or anything meaningful. 2003 was an election year, ASUU expectedly embarked on almost one year "indefinite strike". Obasanjo implemented the no work no pay policy, they didn't call off the strike. Hehehe... Baba Iyabo being a crook that he was (he still is shaa) ordered the then IGP to evict all ASUU members from the University quarters and before u say jack the police went into action. Las las ASUU called off the strike and they couldn't remember the word 'strike' until years later after Obasanjo left office. Bunch of greedy creatures. Bunch of greedy? I guess you know the reason for the strike? You are mostly happy with the rot in the system and the quality of education you get from the Universities in Nigeria? The system is perfect I guess and the children of the rich and that of politicians are schooling abroad? U sound like a frustrated fellow. |

I still wonder what is going on in the fight against corruption. FIRS generated over 5trillion in 2018, that is different from Oil money, yet the present government have borrowed more than 7trillion in 3and half years. What actually was the money used for? I am concerned because I am a Nigerian. If we continue like this, all Nigerians will eventually bear the consequences. |

Online poll is inconsequential as far as Nigerian politics is concerned. |
